Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?

Re: Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?

I hear you completely, a recruit will see UM first, not Mel. Mel was a recruiter at Tech already and didn't see it work then. If Tech can get him great still not my first choice but he left for a reason to go to UM.

Maybe he can leave off the Tech part when he tells them where he's from. Also I'm guessing that reason was Herb Boxer.

Holy crap, JSR and I agree on something - "Tech alum" should not be given primary status during hiring consideration.

Eades would probably be the premier hire, but I'd take any of the assistants in SG's list. As for the 'retreads', uh thanks but no thanks.

Re: Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?

Did you not read what I just said? It's not about building, the, amount of women on campus......................... It's about Mel Pearson. It's Mel Pearson telling a recruit you're coming play for me. I'm a proven winner, I've been to the NCAA's 21 of my 23 years at U of M, we've sent xx players to the show, I'm going to always be a winner, and if you want to play for a winner you come play for me. If you want to go to play for a loser (unsuccessful) and enjoy the parties feel free to go to state or northern or ....................... That's what a Mel Pearson would sell, although I doubt he'd tell them to go to state or northern or other schools like some of tech's former recruiters have.

...and then the other team recruiting the kids says that Mel "won with Red Berenson as head coach, Billy Powers as another assistant and a Big 10 campus and institution to recruit to...does he have any of that in Houghton. Now at __________ University, we've been to the NCAA/ St Paul/ the Joe "X" number of times and have had "X" winning seasons since the last time Tech finished over .500 two years in a row..."

Re: Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?

I say we go to the high schools......Pete Susens.....Wausau West High School coach....Just won the state championship.....would have given the current Huskies a good game.

Pls pls no more Tech alumni.

With all due respect. That idea is asinine. Horrible first post. A high school coach from Wisconsin? Really? And no, Wausau couldn't stay within 20 of tech. They wouldn't stay within 5 of eden prairie!

Susens is a great coach and outstanding person, I grew up watching my high school lose to his teams. However, since he's been committed to the job for 33 years, he hasn't shown any desire to move up anywhere, USHL, D3, etc.

I hope MTU gets a Jeff Jackson type of coach. someone that can bring back the glory days.

Why is Anzalone not mentioned anymore? I thought he was turning LSSU around yet again before they sacked him.

I don't think Tech fans can handle Crazy Frank's antics.

So you're saying Mel sucks and can't stand on his own. Really?

the funnest rumor i heard trhis weekend is, barry melrose wants the job! :D

Where did I say, "Mel sucks?" I'm saying this is the kind of counter argument you may get from another recruiter. Please learn reading and comprehension. And please JSR, show me what part of that counter argument is false.

You see, when you recruit, you not only have to be able to sell yourself, but your institution, your environment, your market and your program as well. And you must not only have your initial pitch, you have to be able to come back with more if a recruit is skeptical. And you have to have answers for the counter arguments that other recruiters put before them.

Frank was turning LSSU around? In the four years before Frank's second tenure, the team won 57 games, averaged 14 wins, never had less than 11, won as many as 18. In the four years after, the team won 57 games, never less than ten, as many as 21, averaged 14 wins. In Frank's four years the win totals were 8,6,9 & 9. Total wins: 32, average: 8. Is that the kind of "turnaround" you are looking for?

Re: Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?

any Brad Stevens types out there?

Yeah I'm sure there are some Brad Stevens around. Can Tech find him?
You look at the Butler facilities, they don't compare to some Division II schools. So what's his pitch, our gym was the one seen in Hoosiers?

Have the same question for Tech? If like many previous coaches they go right to the tradition and history, I don't think that matters as it was quite awhile ago. The facility is fine and better then several programs I have seen that have had more recent success.

Re: Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?

I think the list of mutually interested would include Brian Renfrew, John Hill, Reg Simon, Steve Johnson, Eric Rud, and Kevin Patrick

Hey, no draining the resources out of the Wausau area, even if it is for the Huskies. If we're going local no-names, how about the coach of the Mosinee Papermakers from the GLHL. They've won national championships beating teams like Portage Lake and Calumet among others along the way. And the fact that I actually made the roster for a couple years means they can do all that with minimal talent...

Aside - Am I the only person that thinks of Mike Danton every time I see Danton Cole's name posted in this thread? Let's hope those on the committee know the difference or Tech hockey could get real interesting.

Also, I support the hiring of Melrose, only if he maintains a mullet during the full term of his employment and hires at least one of the Hanson brothers as an assistant.

two Hanson brothers or its no deal

Re: Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?

Berenson signed another three year deal so it makes it more likely that Pearson may not want to continue waiting around.
ROFLMAO...it sux to be Mel. He's waited faithfully for 23 years and Red signs yet another extension? If I was Mel, I'd have taken the MSU job just to poke Red in the eye... :D

yes, however I remember year 4 as being one where LSSU lost a ton of 1-goal games and it seemed he was getting better recruits as well

We've done the LSSU ex-coach thing with Rick Yeo as AD and it didn't help us. Please, no more LSSU Anchors...
