Re: Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?
I agree, Coghlin is a guy that has to be considered seriously. Now, before you jump all over the "rookie" let me say that I have been on this site since it first started and have simply been a "browser" and have not actively posted. Tech is at a serious crossroads and IMO this a make or break decision for this program. With that here is my argument for Coghlin:
1) Second all-time winningest HEAD COACH in the NCAA, all divisions, at 0.757 as of last year
2) Overall record of 390-108-40 in 18 seasons
3) Was captain of the DIII champion UWSP team in 1989
4) Two-time all-American defensemen
5) Signed by the Vancouver Canucks
6) Played for the Milwaukee Admirals and Fife Flyers
7) Assistant coach for UWSP in '92 (DIII runner up) and '93 (DIII champions)
8) Took over at SNC in '94, HERE ARE THE STATS:
2010-11: 25-4-1 (national champions)
2009-10: 24-4-3 (finished 2nd in the Frozen Four)
2008-09: 19-8-1
2007-08: 27-1-4 (national championship)
2006-07: 25-4-2 (finished 3rd in the Frozen Four)
2005-06: 25-5-2 (finished 2nd in the Frozen Four)
2004-05: 24-3-3
2003-04: 27-3-2 (finished 2nd in the Frozen Four)
2002-03: 27-2-2 (finished 3rd in the Frozen Four)
2001-02: 23-5-3
2000-01: 18-8-3
1999-00: 22-5-2
1998-99: 25-5-3
1997-98: 27-6-0
1996-97: 21-9-1
1995-96: 12-13-3
1994-95: 9-14-4
1993-94: 10-9-1
His resume speaks for itself. Now, don't bring up the BS that DIII talent is different than DI, because that is what it is, BS. Yes, each league will have its' "level" of talent. Nonetheless, you still need to compete at your level, period. There are 77 teams in DIII and SNC has been at the top for a decade and that says something. This all comes down to winning and knowing how to win and motivate your players. Coghlin flat out knows how to do this.
p.s., for those that still want a Tech connection, check out who his assistant is...
BTW, to all the hard core Tech posters on this site, you guys have been awesome!! Fans like you guys are what makes Tech unique. Through good and bad, best **** fans in all the NCAA!!
