Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?

Re: Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?

I gotta admit that this coach search is a LOT more entertaining than the regular season. We need to stretch it out as l-o-n-g as possible. :D

Re: Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?

Should we be cheering against Michigan or UND for things to move forward? First assistant out gets a leg up?
Well I think Michigan winning the National Championship hurts Mel's candidacy because there must be a decent chance Red retires on top if they manage to win 2 more games this year. Cary seems like the opposite, if he and Hakstol finally put it together and win it all, what more does he have to prove as an Assistant at UND? It might be easier for him to move on to a new challenge...

Re: Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?

I posted this in the offseason thread, but since it's related more towards this, I'll also post it here

Through the grapevine, I've heard that the AD has been contacting specific alumni and AD contributors, to basically say, "Who do you want? Ok, you contact them, let us know what they want in return." This way, a potential coach gets a call from an alumni...instead of the AD department directly, they can basically say, "We're a committee in charge of finding a new coach, what would it take for you to come to Tech?"

Now this is all rumor, the general idea I'm sure has been done many times, also, who these specific alumni and contributors are is all in question but...meh, and it is all dependent on what the AD is willing to shellout, but I figure I'll make a contribution.

This sounds right, I believe Mel Pearson was contacted by Randy McKay.

Does Tech hire a guy with Minnesota or Michigan connections? If you look at Jess Myers article all his canidates have Minnesota connections? If tech wants to keep a WCHA connected coach i would look at Frank S. or Mike Guentzel.

If tech wants to be connected with the Michigan based alumni they hire Mel Pearson, Danton Cole or Ron Rolston.

Criteria for head coach:

No more assistant coaches and MTU ties. Go in a diffrent direction please. Jamie Russell was a good recruiter with Cornell and so is Cary Eades at ND and Mel Pearson at Michigan.

I think the Minnesota or Michigan connections is important to the direction that mtu may go in the near future?

Mel was an asst when Randy played but where are you hearing stuff? I have to give trust to Suzanne at this point, she's done well with hiring for the other programs, they are successful and staying afloat. She also has excellent close contacts in regard to dealing with major AD issues if she needs them. She was not the one that hired Jamie. I had really hoped he would have made things happen but was unable too. Maybe he was not as connected in the recruiting at Cornell as one thought. Maybe there were other issues such as relying again on the grand old traditions of Tech hockey. That does not fly any more, its about what have you done lately.

If WMU can turn a program around and NMU be competitive, I don't see the reason why Tech can't with the proper coach. What do the recruits want that the next coach will offer?

Suzanne looks like a saint with the hiring in the womens basketball program by hiring within.

Can she be a saint and save the mtu hockey program by hiring the next saint? This is a make or break decision on who she hires? The good thing is she can look real good because of all the bad decisions that have been made by Rick Yeo with all the other hirings of Narhgang, Boxer, Watters, Brown, Sertich, and Russell.

All I know is the field is wide open when MSU hires a coach who hasnt coached in 20 years.

Do you really think either of these guys want to move to Houghton? They both are stable. Tech would be a very big risk for both of these guys.

Jamie Russell was a good recruiter eight years ago, too. What did he have two seniors this season.

"Oh, no no no. You really don't want to apply for this job, Mr. Pearson. You've got a good thing going right where you're at. The reward here in Houghton isn't really worth the risk to your reputation. We're actually hoping to hire a 3rd rate high school coach who is more likely to fail as expected."
Great strategy!

Re: Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?

Brown was NOT a bad hire. He wanted the pros and got there fast.

Suzanne hired more then once for the women's bball team and started soccer as well.

If Jamie was such a good recruiter when.....?

Well if that's the plan, they could've just driven on down to Jeffers or L'Anse and gotten a deal done already. :p

Mr Pearson has already been rejected for the job twice

i dont think he wants to move he is a well established assistant coach at UM.

Please no more tech alum for coaches.

Didnt Pearson coach with Boxer as assistants. I see a repeat if he is hired.

Wasnt Jamie considered a good recruiter at Cornell?

Re: Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?

Operation Catch-22 in process, I have now invested over $200 into helping convince Cary Eades apply at tech (phase 2)!

Nahrgang and Boxer were hired before Yeo was AD. Brown was the first hire and he actually had something decent going. Most of the guys Mancini coached were from Brown's recruiting classes. Hiring Watters was a major F-up. That sent the program back light years. Sertich came in to clean up that mess, so I don't think it's fair to criticize him. And obviously, more bad than good (wins/losses) happened under Russell's watch.

Good luck Suzanne on the next hire. Lord knows you need it.
