Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?

Re: Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?

As much as I want Cary Eades to be the next Coach at Michigan Tech, I do think Mel Pearson is the front-runner based on his success and connection to Michigan Tech. If either of Eades or Pearson actually wants the job, MTU would be foolish not to give either of them the job...my only worry with Mel is he would bolt for Michigan as soon as Red retires if Michigan would take him back.

Pearson's a shoe in. We might as well start discussing lines for next year. There will be plenty of good candidates if and when he does leave; a well known/respected coach/recruiter is needed now and he fits that description.

We hope Pearson has signed the dotted line before he left. Then he can sign Mr Hockey from Michigan, Ben Johnson.

So being that the plane came from Ann Arbor it could've been one of the USNDPT coaches (Cole or Rolston).

Being a Calumet homer, I'd like to see Ben play here eventually, but I certainly hope one 16-year-old kid who might enter the league in 2-3 years isn't a consideration in hiring a coach. Has anyone bugged Eades's living room yet?

I say to take some time on this coaching thing. The speculation is more fun anyways.

Based on 2009-2010 (mostly) data $150-175k is where we need to be...we need to get into the middle third of the WCHA and Sandy is bound to get a raise after winning the NC.
Code:
Name School Salary Year
Dean Blais Nebraska Omaha $250,000.00 2010-2011
Don Lucia Minnesota $241,412.58 2009-2010
Mike Eaves Wisconsin $236,005.00 2009-2010
Dave Hakstol North Dakota $210,000.00 2009-2010
George Gwozdecky	Denver $190,000.00 Estimate
Bob Motzko St Cloud State $174,135.98 2009-2010
Scott Owens Colorado College $167,000.00 Estimate
Troy Jutting Minnesota State $159,529.86 2009-2010
Scott Sandelin Minnesota Duluth $150,240.63 2009-2010
Tom Serratore Bemidji State $131,765.64 2009-2010
Jamie Russell Michigan Tech $121,178.00 2009-2010
Dave Shyiak Alaska Anchorage $110,000.00 2009-2010

Everyone is really hung up on the salary number, but I don't think that really is the biggest factor. Wanting to be here is number #1. Even at $150,00 do you know just how loaded you would be based on the cost of living at Tech?

Just take the #1 expense - house - Even at $125,000 I would argue that MTU's current coaching salary might be in the top 3 in terms of value. Could you even find a house that requires a $2000/mo 30 year mortage in Houghton County? Could you find ANY house for UNDER $2000/mo in the Twin Cities, Denver, etc?

With the combination of location and salary Hakstol and Jutting might actually be overpaid compared to their peers. I don't think Tech needs to add itself to that list.

You're not wrong about cost of living being low in the UP but that doesn't change the fact that MTU needs to up their salary if they want to get someone that on paper is better than Russell. They should also look at upping the assistant salaries more so that going over the top on the Head Coach salary.

You might be able to in West Houghton. There are some modern-looking homes over there up in the hills behind Econo, in a neighborhood that wouldn't look too out of place in the suburbs of a larger city. I believe that a lot of the higher paid Tech staff live there.

But yes, the overall cost of living is cheaper in comparison.

Re: Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?

Rumor from the paint store is that Michigan Tech could announce their next Head Coach on Monday (4/18)

Re: Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?

I love Michigan Technological University students. Has anyone hacked into the passenger list?
If he flew on the airlines there is a list which I could get, but to my knowledge the list on private jets is held by some responsible individual on the ground and not always published unless something untoward happens. Is the airplane owned by a Tech booster.?

Could be, but could not. Willow run is the closest runway of enough size for a jet near Ann Arbor. the A2 airport is really too small.

well why don't you start checking all the flights into Houghton this week for any of the names on my big list of candidates?

Well first, into Houghton from AA would most likely result in flying into Marquette and driving up, as the connection in Chicago is a pain in the keester.( so anyone have rental car records in marquette ?) But, sure I can check tomorrow evening when I get back to the United States. Look for a post about 11 pm. I think it's pretty smart of them to use a charter or booster airplane though. More to come on this subject at a later date.
Very smart, for a number of reasons.

If this is true, I'd say Suzanne worked pretty fast. We'll wait and see!

Should we start taking predictions? I'll go with Mel Pearson.
