Michigan Tech Huskies 2024-25 - OK MacNaughton, Stop Ducking Us

The other teams in 2026 are Western Michigan and Lindenwood. That was originally supposed to be Notre Dame but Brock Sheahan has already pulled the Irish out of the tournament.

Of course he did. Why play potentially ranked Western, MSU, and/or Tech teams in a non-conference holiday tournament without your precious WJC blue chips, when you could schedule Lindenwood or Army for a pair over the holiday period instead.

They all learn from football and basketball, Marv's cravenness was just the start.

Rylan Gould from the WHL's Swift Current Broncos has committed. Heisenberg projects him for 2026, and he's 19, so they must be figuring that he'll land an overage spot next season?

We had some issues with too much in our zone time this weekend. I hope that can be fixed. Too often we get the puck and give it right back.
BTW my MVP on the weekend was Max K. good going max.

Future Husky Skogen Schrott has left the BCHL and will be playing for Baie-Comeau in the QMJHL. He's 19 and could potentially play an overage year.

I expect more of these movements to come, since players that are doing well in Junior A can now step up to a MJ team without losing their NCAA eligibility.

I see where AIC is hosting a transfer portal showcase. I also see where agents for CHL players are sending some players also. I hope we go and take a look.

Carson Birnie of the WHL's Calgary Hitmen announces his commitment. He's 19 and could play an overage year. His stats aren't huge, but he was recently traded from a crappy Red Deer Rebels team (where he was wearing an 'A') and is now a depth forward for the Hitmen as they prep for a playoff push.

This means MVB and at least 2 of the CHL guys who've been announced in the last month or so will spend another year in junior. Which is fine and MVB needs it, he has acceptable stats for a USHL rookie, but he's not tearing up the league either.

re: Birnie- I watch a lot of Calgary Hitmen games since their captain is a Sharks draft pick. Birnie has looked good with them and they're poised for a potentially deep run. Birnie is also an agitator but has kept his nose clean re: suspensions. They can be pretty liberal on those in the CHL (certain penalties come with auto suspensions that can be rescinded) so it's a good sign. Unless the CCHA has changed drastically since last year, I think he fits in well with its style of play.

I'm assuming he has some relationship to former Huskies star Rick Boehm?
I haven't found anything about this one, you might want to ask.

Rick was born in Saskatchewan and spent most of the last 30 years playing and then coaching in Germany, whereas Brayden is from BC. Seems unlikely there's any family relation, but it's possible. 🤷‍♂️

Well that's too bad.
regarding the game. I counted at least 4 times the forwards coming back left their man all alone in front or were with him but didn't keep him from getting a good shot off. I mean what's the point of covering someone if you just stand there and watch him shoot it. It's a two way game is it not?
I also think some of our D men are banged up and that's effecting how they skate because the D got turned way too often.
Third. gaps. Didn't we spend all week on the off week going over gaps and now we have lousy gaps?
Finally, you have to give Bemidji credit they played as good as they have in any other game this year. We didn't match it for the most part.

I also want to comment on the refs. Sardarian has a big mouth for sure. The ref knows who he is and is not going to take any guff what so ever. so i get the unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. That penalty hurt us. However, the major in the third hurt us also. I question though if that was really contact to the head. the replay i saw didn't show it, though the kid's head moved, it seemed to me like he was moving it himself, not that the force of the blow moved it because the blow came to the shoulder. So I think the penalty was the result of his reputation more so than what he actually did.
It's unfortunate to say the least!
Also Nordy, two penalties? in one period? man!

Well, after that.... we are not getting better. and i was pretty unhappy with our play at the end of that game.

there is no need to be bush league. ! That distressed me greatly! .. imho we have to reset and just work on improving because that was not in any way an improvement over other games earlier in the year. I thought the PK wasn't worth a hoot and that makes me upset after all the work that has gone into it. I thought the second pp was one of the worst of the year.
I thought our defensive gaps were too big. etc. I thought we gave them opportunities all the time. Aug had clean breakouts from their own end a lot of the time. why was that? I thought our faceoffs were not very good later in the game. we at one point lost 9 straight.
I think Sardarian should play more like pittlick at minnesota state. That is if he wants to play higher level hockey.
I thought Max K played a good game. I thought on the second goal by aug the faceoff was illegal and should have been whistled down.
I hated the broadcast team and i thought the TV production was not all that great as the color balance was off making it harder to watch than it should have been.

I also thought the refs were marginal.
i liked the misfits cheering. I heard it all game long and i thought the broadcasters were low class in making fun of them. also the crowd wasn't your typical college hockey crowd. it was more like Denver... or a pro game. few students and no student section, not much enthusiasm for the home team.

Much better effort last night. I liked Pederson! I liked Brown, I liked Gordon, I liked chase.
I don't know who stripped the puck and set up Frankl but great play!

as far as Rabouin, you know working the refs as hard as he did is counterproductive. sure our guy did do what you said, but you forgot how many of your guys' issues he ignored. just relax. !

I thought the 3x3 was the best I've ever seen from anyone and i think the pk could be improved.

I am curious about the CCHA autobid for the NCAA tournament. Is Augustana disqualified from receiving the bid this year? It appears that playoffstatus.com is making that assumption. If so, does that mean that if they play for the championship that the other participant automatically receives the autobid?
