<> Michigan Tech Huskies 2023-24: Is the MacNaughton coming home? <>

Unfortunately, it is not. As long as the new transfer rules remain in place, you're going to see MTU and other CCHA schools used as feeder programs for powerhouse schools that need to plug holes in their lineups. And any drafted player that lands here will have NHL advisors telling them what to do, including when to move on after a season or two.

Actually, NMU touts a highly regarded recruiting class for next year. Potulny said he expected this.

I'd like to thank the THG crew for the follow up Chasing MacNaughton podcast episode with Artem Shlaine. It was a great interview and you were able to get so much information from the inner workings of NMU, the portal process, and why kids may want to shuffle about.

As an NMU fan, I feel this was the best insight of all the follow up media pieces since the portal opened for the season.

Y'all continue to do great work on the podcast.

Are any NIL numbers available for college hockey? I'm sure Tech is at a disadvantage compared to the larger markets like Denver, Minneapolis, Madison, and Boston. I'm curious how much of a disadvantage.

6'6" RHD and NJ 6th Rounder Viktor Hurtig will transfer from MSU to Tech this fall. He played 34 games as a freshman, but only 9 this past year, as he found himself pushed out by Sparty's logjam of new commits under Nightingale.

RW Owen Baker will join Hurtig in transferring to Tech. He played in only 7 games as a freshman for Sparty, but his USHL numbers were decent.

so what gets me is they could not play there but they are better than what we have here? The CCHA needs to keep up the recruiting and not settling on players that are in the portal and could not crack their teams line ups. To be a top program think like a top program. Point how did Swankler work out when all the top schools passed on him.

Can't really fault Mosley. He's given 4 years to Tech hockey and is graduating with a rare, free year of eligibility left.

IIRC, before he was injured the rumor was that Swankler probably wasn't coming back. Guy was a non-factor outside of the GLI, so not a huge loss. It was a gamble that did not pay off for Joe, but also ultimately didn't really harm him.

It is a little concerning that a guy like Rasmussen, who would figure to take another step and be a productive regular in next year's lineup, has entered the portal.

He had an A on his chest. Disappointing in my book. Same for Kyle.

For those who maybe didn't watch the tournament. Denver won 4 games giving up 3 goals total in that stretch and scoring 8. It was defense all the way. clogging up the neutral zone. Kind of justifies coach joes philosophy don't you think. ? The Michigan game vs BC was a great example of why you don't try to outskill eastern skill teams. It's a major mistake. Denver didnt bite.

Oh and I disagree with the previous polster. it's pie in the sky to think we can attract recruits the same way as msu does. But we can find guys who can make us better and that's what we are doing. Maybe that kid just didnt fit into their system very well.

And like Rico Blasi said on CHN yesterday, "if this is such a bad league, why do you big ten teams keep stealing all our players."

IMHO agents should not be allowed to contact teams regarding a player until after the season. this mid season raiding is tampering in my book.

Don Lucia made the rounds and was elequent in representing the CCHA to the rest of hockey this week. He has a couple of other commissioners on his side.

Happy Patriots day to all.

LISTEN, my children, and you shall hear
Of the midnight ride of Paul Revere,
On the eighteenth of April, in Seventy-five;
Hardly a man is now alive
Who remembers that famous day and year.

ETC. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.

Looks like the third add from the portal is G Derek Mullahy from Harvard. Didn't have an exemplary year last year (2-13-2, .897 sv%, 3.14 GAA) and his career numbers are not a lot better. I don't think Vayrynen will be too scared of the competition.
