Willy, I suggest you twist open another pint of Black Velvet and go troll a like-minded team like SCSU. :D

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

I would much rather have tech in the NCHC than st cloud... I was just trying to get a little rise out of the techies, carry on and good luck this weekend.

Glad to know how you really feel, not sure we'd really want to be in the NCHC, but I rather still be in a 10-team WCHA without the B1Gs than what we currently are...

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

The NCHC teams wanted to get out of the $h!+hole...
Unfortunately last time I checked, UND is still located in Grand Forks. Wanting a change like you suggested and actually accomplishing it are two different things. But hey, if you would rather visit Oxford, K'zoo and Omaha over Bemidji, Houghton and Fairbanks more power to you, but you prob need to get out more. There's a great big world out there, and most of it isn't in downtown big city USA.

And keep in mind this is coming from someone who lives right in DU's backyard. I would much rather drive 90 miles (70 minutes) to watch Air Force or CC than drive downtown to watch DU who is only 15 miles (an hour) away.

Yeah, Clarke Saunders (to UND), Mac Roy (to RMU), and Nick Gatt (to Sparty) all left while the program in Huntsville was in doubt. Clarkie was obviously the biggest (literally) defection, but he wasn't the only one.

More than in doubt, had announced it would fold. As most MTU fans probably know if they paid attention to MTU football in the mid 2000s, once that announcement is made, players can transfer with no penalty, even if the program ends up finding a way to survive and recover.

Yeah, all players had been granted a release. That was revoked when Altenkirch acted.

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

Here's a hockey question for guys like the troll.

Watching games all year, it seems to me that when we get an odd man rush, ( and even in the NHL) if the puck gets moved to the other player breaking, the chances of a score go up by quite a bit. Whereas, if the forward holds the puck, even when he gets a good shot, the scoring percentage is much lower.

I admit, I was pretty "butthurt" the first 6 months after the whole realignment thing, and I think my posts at the time reflect that. A few ECAC fans (EDIT: not to mention that DU guy, I can't remember his name) were being major douchebags, crowing that the WCHA leftovers were even weaker than the AHA, and that the rest of the east would finally get some 'respect'. I think they got that 'respect' (the teams, not the fans), even without the western realignment. I also mostly got over the league changes, except when provoked by silly posts. I think the new WCHA has proven that they aren't only going to send the league champion to the NCAAs, like some stiffs predicted.

It's true, but no forward decides ahead of time that he's going to hold onto the puck in that situation. He knows if he can make a late clean pass (move the goalie) the odds of scoring are much better. The thing is, the defender knows it also. So the pressure is on the defense in this situation: caught in a 2-on-1, they are coached to take away the pass in favor of allowing an open shot on a stationary goalie. The forward will (should) look to pass first, and if there's not a good opportunity to go cross-ice, take the shot.
Some forwards will gamble more than others on making the pass. But the greatest thing about hockey is that no one play is ever quite the same as another. Maybe the goalie's a little bit out of position. Maybe individual speed or momentum is factoring in. etc. etc.

Well yes,, but... if the player with the puck, instead of spending 3 or 4 seconds assessing the situation and ending up just inside the blue line, still with it, and running out of options rapidly, would move the puck early, not late, then it gives more of an opportunity for something to happen.

Also If the open winger would make some sort of move to get more open, seeing that the defenseman is doing what he does, then maybe the player with the puck would have more of an opportunity to move it.( it happens so much that the defenseman depends on the open winger not to do anything and to continue in the route he is already on) Once it get's moved the first time, then the second one ( assuming the goalie and the defenseman adjust) is easier to do and gives you a better look.

Third, if you move it early, it doesn't have to be a tape to tape pass. The defenseman has taken that away anyway. Just get it over, even if it's in his feet, let him corral it, and he still has time to do something with it.

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

The main focus of Facebook is of course to distract us with useless posts and ads for products I don't need. However someone posted the photo below and now I have to know, who from Tech did this? Come on, fess up, this just reeks of someone from Tech doing something like this.

This one was a very close second. I've seen these machines vandalized pretty much every place they are installed, but this is a new one for me.

Here is the full post. Some of them are quite good.

In my uneducated mind's eye, I don't see an advantage to passing before you even enter the offensive zone (unless the other player is wide open and you are not). The later you can make the pass, the less time the goalie has to react. It seems to me, however, that the Tech skaters have often held the puck too long in this situation and tried to make a pass from behind the goal line when their line mate is already in the goalie's lap. It would be fun to hear the coaches on this question.

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

Looks like Keegan Ford could just be the first American recruit in a little stretch here...I saw it mentioned on GPL that MTU has an offer out to Jack Becker (Mahtomedi)...he is the best player as a Junior on one of the best Division A teams in Minnesota. He scored a hat trick yesterday in their State Quarterfinal game and will play tomorrow against the defending state champions.
