Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

While I'm not in any way connected with anyone on the staff, if I we're them I'd not be happy you all were spouting off about guys who have been offered, until either they accepted, or not.

However, if anyone lives in metro Detroit, the Head of Hockey operations for USA hockey will be speaking in Plymouth on thursday the 27th at noon, regarding the move to the compuware arena. I can get you a ticket if you want to go. I am aware of the date, yes.

I'm spouting info published elsewhere, not something I was told by anyone attached to the team. You don't want me to relay mentions on GPL or an article on mnhockeyhub.com that point blank says something about a potential recruit?

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

I don't see where it makes a difference whether we talk about them or not. A rumor about a verbal commitment would still be a verbal - it is not ink on paper. If these kids are good, they're going to have multiple offers.

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

Looks like Keegan Ford could just be the first American recruit in a little stretch here...I saw it mentioned on GPL that MTU has an offer out to Jack Becker (Mahtomedi)...he is the best player as a Junior on one of the best Division A teams in Minnesota. He scored a hat trick yesterday in their State Quarterfinal game and will play tomorrow against the defending state champions.

That would be fabulous! We need more Steman types from MN.

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

In my uneducated mind's eye, I don't see an advantage to passing before you even enter the offensive zone (unless the other player is wide open and you are not). The later you can make the pass, the less time the goalie has to react. It seems to me, however, that the Tech skaters have often held the puck too long in this situation and tried to make a pass from behind the goal line when their line mate is already in the goalie's lap. It would be fun to hear the coaches on this question.

As to scoring opportunities I would agree, the later you can move the puck the less time you give the goalie to react. I'm not sure how early MS is talking about in moving the puck. Just before one crosses the blue line is usually a bad place to have to make a play. It tends to throw everyone off-sides. Typically on a 3 on 2 rush you will try to move the puck to the outside lane. The center lane drives the net hard. Forcing a D to make a decision... go with him or let him go. If the D goes with him it sets up a mini 2 on 1, which usually has better odds of scoring. And It's Game Day!! GO HUSKIES!!!

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

There is an MTU hockey gathering in the Denver area today to watch the Huskies vs Kitty Kats. I will be there with a few jerseys for trading with my fellow Colorod-inites? Colorod-ans? Colo-rogans? Whatever. Clean out the back of your closest and bring in those dirty old Tech jerseys collecting dust and trade them in for a more modern version or some US currency. I'm not opposed to throwing in a few tap craft beers to sweeten the deal for any potential traders / sellers...
:-)
See you there,

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

Sure no problem. I think what I can do is make some little strips with your contact info and just hand them out. Just let me know what to put on them. I know the cream is in for sure, but are you going to do a gold and or black as well? Just want to make sure I pass along the right message. You can mail whatever you want me to share to info@johnsonsjerseys.net

I disagree completely. Nothing bad can come from having Michigan Tech mentioned as possible destinations for high end recruits. We've got our foot in the door. The more we're mentioned as a destination on places like mnhockeyhub or during the broadcast of The Tourney, or in Let's Play Hockey, the more younger players see Tech as a possible landing spot, and the more we establish ourselves as a hockey destination school.

I do think it was good to Jake Jackson's name mentioned with MTU, as well as the likes of Mitch Reinke and now Jack Becker but at the same time I see the point in not talking about the guys who have offers from MTU because that might mean more interest in a player before he verbally commits. Although its not like the schools in Minnesota don't know about Jack Becker, etc....so who knows.

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

I could see Mike Eaves trolling this thread looking for recruits to "even the score" (when he's not polishing his resume on Career Builder...)

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

Very nice to be wrong about Jimmy Davis, glad he got to play today and he scored a point and I never heard Dirk say something negative about him...he can hold his head up high that he belonged, even if he couldn't get himself into the top 6 very often. That defensive core is deep as hell.

If scores hold, MTU will still have a shot at outright #1 in the WCHA or an even better shot at sharing the McNaughton...what a season!

Yep. I was going to post this, but you covered it.

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

I have 1 wish for the future, if WKMJ could tap into the arena PA system so those at home could listen to the senior recognitions.

I'm guessing WCHA.tv had the Senior night recognitions...although maybe not if that feed was used for Fox UP and they did their own postgame?

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

Don't look now but MTU is up to 4th in the PWR :) The night is still young so who knows where they'll sit after all the games are played.
