Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

And with that the title becomes true, best season since Macinnes retired.

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

Well, that's 23 victories for the first time since '82, when MacInnes was behind the bench. 33 years folks, it's been way to *ing long.

Big picture:
5 games to play
5 wins = WCHA champs
Not co-champs, outright champions of the WCHA.

What happened to the replay at 8am?!?!?
I turned on Mix 93 feed like I always do and got Daft Punk instead of Hockey.

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

Tech looked dominant last night, need to keep focused tonight as Coach Thomas will have U AA ready tonight.

I want to see Sturos get a goal, he is doing good things, but not getting rewarded, was Johnstone's really a 5, did not see it, but seemed refs had to be convinced once again.

as the Pep Band says "do it again" and the same goes for Alaska!!

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

Extremely happy with this team now. I know I was down on them for a bit when we were having mid season issues and losing some games we should have won, but we really do seem to be erasing some of our woes and if we can win tonight it will definitely show that. I was really worried about the WC series against Bemidji after playing UAH based on what happened last season playing UAF after UAH and getting crushed. Old Tech teams also had issues of losing to teams they had no right to lose to, like the 06-07 team, they lost games to teams they had no right to lose to and it kept us out of home playoffs and NCAA. This team has turned it around again after the mid season and seems to not be losing those games any more. Seriously loving this team and this season.

Now, I was wondering if anyone sees any early departures after this season? I am worried about losing Petan and Philips, both have been amazing and I could see teams looking at them after the season, I just hope they see themselves as having more work to do at Tech and come back for their senior seasons.

Phillips was drafted by Winnipeg so it's all on the Jets. Petan's cousin is coming in next year so hopefully that's enough to keep him in Houghton for his senior year. I'd be more worried about some team wanting to take a chance on one of the upperclassmen on defense.

Yea, once I posted this I remembered about Philips having been drafted. I do hope that's enough to keep Petan in Houghton as we really need him back for next year with losing Kero and Pietila.

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

I wonder what will become of L'Esperance more than anyone, if only because he looks so much like JJ Khaira in his style of play. I hope he stays here 4 years to work on the basics.

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

I really can't see 'Peg wanting Phillips to go to the minors especially with the playing time he is getting now. Players leave when they, or their advisors, smell big money on the horizon. Teams only push players when they don't think they are developing. Jamie is CLEARLY making big strides since Copley gave up the #1 spot on the Huskies roster.
I can't see the Jets wanting Phillips to leave a situation where he is getting a ton of coaching (college players spend way more time practicing than they do playing) and he's getting nearly all the ice time during games. Unless there is a huge melt-down in the next couple weeks, I see no reason to think that Phillips wouldn't be getting nearly every start again next season as well if he has handled the work load this season.

Him and Steman both worry me in that aspect.

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

I bought tickets to the final 5 on line because they are having a valentines day special with 10 bucks off, but the fees will choke a horse. 20 dollars for 1 ticket? seems like an awful lot. that's 40% in tax and fees. if I'm paying that much it would behoove the league to do it themselves.

4-0 and not even halfway through the 1st period. Good job Huskies, you are helping my Lakers out.
