Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

Wow, what a game. I had no idea how we'd finally get 1 by UAH.

It'll be interesting to see how many lineup changes there are.

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

Wow.

2nd longest game in WCHA history at 118:49, surpassed only by Wisconsin-CC in 2007 at 129:30. Carmine Guerrero did set a new WCHA record with 76 saves to break the mark of 75 set by Wisconsin's Kirk Daubenspeck in that game.

The Huskies had 77 shots, one short of the WCHA record for shots on goal of 78 - also set by Wisco against CC, but that time on 17 November 1972.

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

and Congratulations to Jamie Phillips, who now holds the Huskies record for shutouts in a season with 5. He was tied with Michael-Lee Teslak (2006-7) and Jim Warden (1974-75) with 4 going into the game tonight.

I'm researching how long he needs to set the mark for longest shutout stretch. The best I can find so far is Pheonix Copley's 143:32 set in 2012-13 over 4 games (North Dakota, Michigan, Western Michigan, and Minnesota-Duluth). Since that's just behind Denver's Wade Dubielewicz in 9th all-time in the WCHA at 146:18, I'm pretty confident that Copley holds the MTU record. Phillips currently stands at 119:44, so he would need to go 3:48 into the 2nd period tomorrow without surrendering a goal to better the time.

My *** he's not playing well!!

what bose said. my god.

Huntsville can hold their heads up high. at the end I think we were cheering for them as much as for Tech. what a game!

luckily we have fresh legs to come in tomorrow. maybe having Johnstone out tonight was a good thing?

Guaranteed you see Johnstone, Hietala, Hyland, and Anderson tomorrow. I'm sure Mel is considering Jimmy Davis too depending on how gassed the defensemen are.

Holy smokes. I did not see that one coming. That was a goaltending performance for the ages.

You sure didn't GF! Previous talk about Carmine not playing good may have been some serious sandbagging!;)

Our senior assistant coach was very effusive in his praise, and he is never, ever happy after a loss (to the point that I won't talk to him).

Also, if that disallowed goal (totally clean) had been the difference between you and victory in regulation instead of defeat in 8OT, I would've come to Houghton to bail Shirtless out.

Boosh-O-Meter
Introducing Boosh-O-Meter, the official Misfit method to rating your level of fanaticism/faith for our Hockey Huskies!!
Boosh1 = Convinced Tech will win every game this season, taking NCAA trophy
2 = MTU wins the WCHA playoffs
3 = Looking to see Tech finish in the WCHA top 3
4 = Will play strong in the WCHA, with a chance to win any game
5 = Will just squeak into a home playoff berth
6 = Would like to believe Tech will play .500 hockey this season
7 = Won't host a home playoff series
8 = Well, they won't be in last place in the WCHA
9 = Yeah, they might win one or two games, but it's all been a fluke thus far
10 = Convinced Tech will lose every remaining game this season

Borrowed from MacInnes Diehard on USCHO forums.

how's yours doing this season?

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

I cannot imagine how fatigued all the guys were on both teams, but were able to keep going.
There will be a lot of sore bodies this morning. The effort last night was outstanding.
I think Coach will plug in as many as possible and I also think that will include Jimmy Davis. The advantage of fresh legs will be huge, but that is what you get with home ice.

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

Incredible games across college hockey last night. Besides the Tech game, NMU lost in OT to BGSU, Quinnipiac was down to Union by 2 goals with 1 26 to play and won in OT. Duluth lost a tough one. Just a ton of great games with more to come tonight.

I really hope our fans appreciate what a turn around this is for us.

I think Huntsville will have a real good team quite soon and I think Corbet is a real good coach. Our league is going to be tighter than ever next year.

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

One last statistical breakdown from last night's epic.

173-number of shots attempted by Michigan Tech
48-shots that missed the net
47-shots blocked by the UAH defense
1-shot that hit the crossbar
76-saves by Guerrero
1-goal by Tyler Heinonen

The stat crew was probably running on fumes too.
