Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

Just entered Tech splitting with BSU, sweeping UAA, getting swept by MSU, and splitting with NMU, so, a not good end to the season. And it puts us at 14, firmly on the bubble, and in a pretty precarious position. Need the wins this weekend, and cannot lose to UAA. Losses to MSU don't really hurt us too much, but can't have a letdown against teams lower in the PWR.

losing to MSU will certainly hurt us since its one of the few chances to get a quality win bonus. The QWB is one of the bigger reasons the NCHC teams are stacked in the top 14.

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

No, a split in Mankato and a win in the F5 would not flip the comparison, unless the RPI flips, which it wouldn't unless MSU drops some other games. Tech would still lose the RPI, may win the common opponents, and would lose the head to head 2-3.

Well reasoned. And the committee has shown a recent history of placing conference pairs in regional sites, so I guess it's not out of the question. I just have that sneaking feeling that Fargo is where they'll end up. I do hope I'm incorrect.

Its a missed opportunity, for sure. But it won't lower the RPI nearly as much from where it is/was.

Where did you get 14th? I got them at 11 with the above results according to CHN's customized PWR.

I used CHN too. I also simulated all of the other games too, trying to figure out likely results, that is probably the difference.

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

I tried to get BSU high enough so that we get a QWB from them, and I can't get them high enough without Tech losing at least 1 of 2 this weekend, which ends up being a net loss. If the playoffs were added in, then that would probably get them there. Of course, that would mean they'd have to sweep MSU the last weekend of the year, which, while possible, is not likely. They'd essentially have to win every game from here on out except for any game against Tech.

On the other hand, if Michigan wins out, through the rest of the regular season, that would increase our QWB from 0.0027 to 0.0045. So, as much as it hurts, we probably should root for the basterds in the ugly helmets...eh, I don't think I can go that far.

edit: UMD winning out gives us a boost of 0.0005 in QWB, Ferris winning out hurts us to the tune 0.0003 (because they'd knock Bowling Green down so far)
So really, we want Michigan to dominate the BIG and UMD to dominate the Nacho, which is straightforward considering they're the non-conference wins we can hang our hat on at this point. (Wisconsin is as useless as a cock flavored lollipop...should have gotten Robert Morris to come to Houghton instead)

One thing that will really help MTU is the NCHC teams not splitting so many series. The more sweeps by UND, UNO, UMD the better to help push down Denver and Miami and not give them bumps in QWB.

I was told there would be no math involved in cheering for the Huskies.... Just win them all and none of this matters.
The local alumni chapter set up a viewing party in Denver for the Friday night game vs Northern. I will be curious to see how the feed looks at the event.
Go Tech!

Also submitted a cream jersey order to Shirtless. I am up here for carny and just bought the black away jersey and gold jersey. I love both of those but my most wanted jersey was the cream one so being able to get it is awesome. I would like to co!plete the set with the home jersey but it's just really plain and my least favorite of our current designs so I'm holding off on it.

You're a couple years behind in your signature.

Well if Bose has to update his, then I think Mr Flashy will have to get SCSU Euro to provide a new quote as well.

This just doesn't work in the new era of Tech hockey... I think we also now rock at winning hockey games as well.
SCSU Euro says: What are you TALKING about? Best fans, best travelling, best insults nobody else understands, best talking in nerdy code. MTU rocks at like everything but winning hockey games.

I was just doing it for the years I went to Tech, sadly they were the bad years.

Here's a little throwback for you to get ready for Winter Carnival. These are the highlights from January of 1993 when the Huskies walloped Minnesota 10-2 on Saturday afternoon after tying 2-2 the night before. The audio is from Bob Olson and Darcy Way on (what was then) WMPL-FM. Coincidentally, it's Bob's birthday this Sunday when he turns 84. Enjoy.

Thanks so much for posting that video. Great highlights of a great team from Huskies history. I got spoiled that season (my frosh year at Tech). I figured Tech was going to win a lot of hockey games over the years, but after 1993, there were not many highlights for many years.

I was in the band for most hockey games and so my view of the game was always from the end of the rink (on the concourse under when the suites sit today). I remember the student director saying after the 9th goal, if we scored again we were going to play the fight song really s-l-o-w. Tech delivered and that band took it waaaay down. Threw the fans for quite a loop as they had no idea what was going on at the time.

1993 Tech hockey: Wood sticks, a lot of talent on the ice, home ice for the playoffs and a lot of jerseys I wish I had... You can also see all the original accent graphics on the rink walls - orange, green, etc that matched the seat colors. I was told by Dave Nordstrom when the seats were being replaced that John MacInnes himself picked the colors for the original seats in the rink. Many people quietly questioned his choices of green, orange and harvest gold, but being the successful coach that he was, no one was willing to stand up and say something. It was later learned that MacInnes was color blind but it was too late to make changes.
