Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

Will "Suck it DU" or "Sioux Sux" be accepted on the nameplate?
Just need clarification on that...

Redmond stops all but one in POW turn for 'Backs

Monday, February 2, 2015 - Submitted by BCHL Media

Salmon Arm Silverbacks goalie Angus Redmond has been named the BCHL Player of the Week for the week ending Feb. 1, the league announced Monday.

Redmond stopped all but one shot he faced over three games and posted consecutive shutouts over division-rival Vernon. The Langley, BC product allowed his only goal against of the week in a 1-0 loss to Penticton but was still named the game's 2nd Star. On the road in Vernon, he stopped all 31 pucks in a 3-0 victory and took 1st Star. The following night at home, he again was 1st Star in a 1-0 win where he made 17 saves.

The Michigan Tech recruit posted a .989 save percentage for the week and a tiny 0.34 goals-against average. Redmond is now tied for the BCHL lead with five shutouts on the season.

Honourable mentions this week:

Powell River Kings F Jacob Pritchard: 5G, 4A, two 1st Stars, GWG, 3rd Star

Nanaimo Clippers G Guillaume Decelles: 2W, SO, 2nd Star, 122 saves/127 shots, .961 sv%, 1.59 GAA

Penticton Vees F Tyson Jost: 3G, 1st Star, 2nd Star, GWG

Powell River Kings F Adam Tracey: 4G, 2nd Star, GWG

Nanaimo Clippers F Jake Jackson: 2G, 3A, 1st Star

Prince George Spruce Kings F Braiden Epp: 1G, 2A, 1st Star

The random trip helped the cause. I'll (we'll) hopefully find a series to attend next year, too. MN ain't going there anytime soon. :(

Shirtless - when and where should we send checks? do you take credit cards? how about the nameplates and numbers? can't remember what the rules were regarding those. when will the jerseys arrive?

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

oh yes, one more thing in my manic morning. USCHO's bracketology has MTU as a number 2 seed for the NCAA tourney. last week we were a number 3.

Moving up 3 or 4 spots in PWR will do that to you. :p

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

It is becoming increasingly apparent that the Huskies are destined to end up in Fargo. With the host school proviso, having NoDak and MnSt in the #1 seeds will mean the Mavericks go to South Bend and I can't see the committee putting two WCHA schools in the same region. I'm not necessarily calling NoDak unbeatable in Fargo, but it would certainly be an easier road at the Midwest site.

So barring a collapse by (the Sioux), the only solution is for the Huskies to take matters in their own hands and remove MnSt from the #1 seed band - by beating them and replacing them. A split in Mankato in addition to a playoff title (with another win over MnSt) would likely be enough to flip the comparison.

I'm onboard. let's just do it!

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

There is no problem with putting both Tech and Mankato in South Bend, it just means that Tech needs to be in the 8/9 slot to go there, or MSU needs to fall from the top spot. Or, Tech needs to slot in out east, and have an eastern team in South Bend, so it makes sense attendance-wise to swap them. We're by no means stuck in Fargo, if anything it was just coincidence that we stayed in the same location 2 weeks straight. It is likely we'll bounce around each week between now and the Final 5.

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

No, a split in Mankato and a win in the F5 would not flip the comparison, unless the RPI flips, which it wouldn't unless MSU drops some other games. Tech would still lose the RPI, may win the common opponents, and would lose the head to head 2-3.

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

For example, if you took the current PWR, and simply moved Tech back to #9, and Denver up to #7, you'd end up with Tech playing Miami in South Bend in the first round, and it would be a much better attendance situation in the midwest than having Harvard there.

It's a black art for sure, figuring out the what if's. I believe that even if you did get the Mankato comparison swapped, you would have trouble dropping them out of the top 4, and even if they were a 4, I believe they would still be in South Bend. Looking at the Sioux sports site, it appears we are losing the comparison with Duluth and with BGSU. Those might be easier to swap and would cement us a bit more.
We are going to get what we get, though it is interesting to think about. Quite a change from previous years.

We will only swap Duluth if we pass them in RPI, which is very possible as soon as this weekend, depending on the results of the games. We could conceivably pass BGSU without passing them in RPI if we beat them in F5, and had a better common opponents record, but if we did that, I'm sure we'd pass them in RPI too, unless we do something stupid like **** the bed against UAA and kill our RPI.

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

Just entered Tech splitting with BSU, sweeping UAA, getting swept by MSU, and splitting with NMU, so, a not good end to the season. And it puts us at 14, firmly on the bubble, and in a pretty precarious position. Need the wins this weekend, and cannot lose to UAA. Losses to MSU don't really hurt us too much, but can't have a letdown against teams lower in the PWR.
