Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

How the hell do you get 1 too many men penalties on the Ellen's let alone 3 and 2 tonight? These penalties are going to kill us.

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

that one wasn't pretty, but another sweet win, Carnival hardware and a lock on home ice. yes, I'll take that. GO HUSKIES!!

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

I sure don't want to play Bemidji again this year. maybe not even next year. who asked them to be in the league? :)

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

Home ice for the first time in 22 years!
22 wins for the first time in 32 years!

AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!.......asplode.

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

Awesome weekend, I couldn't have asked for a better weekend to come back to. Way to go Huskies!!

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

Two tough wins by Tech this weekend that both looked in doubt at times but Tech found a way. Tech sniped two nice goals Friday night and got a bounce when they needed one tonight. Great to see Tech get home ice for the playoffs but after so many years of waiting it seems anti-climactic because the expectations went up so quickly. While the home ice will be nice when the time arrives, I think it was as overlooked about as much as winning the MacInnes Cup for Carnival. I'm sure if Tech had lost the game by a goal and still managed to win the Cup there would not have been much celebrating. I get the feeling the 2 pts earned Saturday night was far more important than the cup because there are bigger goals in the Huskies' sights.

Let's hope Tech keeps this same focus on the looooong road trip next week. Anything less than four pts from last place Anchorage will be a disappointment. Every game is pretty much a must win now for the rest of the season. Any loss is likely to have a big impact on meeting bigger goals. I'm going to try my best to get up there if there are open seats on the flights. I haven't been up there for almost a decade so its about time for a return trip.

You're right about the points meaning more, but more specifically the small bump up in RPI is what really matters now. Every win is a little closer to locking Tech into the NCAAs. I don't know about you, but I don't plan on being 1 and done when we get there.

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

Laker Dude, if you have enough of a problem with Tech fans posting about the NCAAs in the TECH THREAD, to throw out inappropriate neg rep, then maybe you should stick to your sad little single-digit win Laker thread.

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

I know you like being inflammatory, but what did you post on our thread in the past day that deserved neg rep? :p

I got neg rep from Laker Dude for my post right before i called him out.

"I am sure your plans will influence the results of the tournament"

Sad, bitter and pathetic. I had a higher opinion of Laker fans....

You're not a one-eyed fat man, but don't let that affect your opinion of my post:

Honestly, we played ok, but not great and certainly not good enough to win games in the tournament. Too many turn overs, too many tentative passes to no one, too many good looks for the other side that most teams will bury. Jamie played very well and there were plenty of good things of course.

i'll take the points, but we have to be better.

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

I'll say this. You all are clamoring for the tourney, and being a high seed, and all that. I really am happy you all feel that way. But no matter WHAT happens, this season HAS be to be considered a success. Secure home ice THIS early? Be #1, albeit shortly, in the nation? The tourney being a probability and not a possibility/pipe dream?

Not trying to drink your Kool-Aid, but keep perspective here. :)

Agreed with this while post. The biggest thing to me is that we seem to pass too much in some situations, the power play being the biggest example. We pass and pass and pass some more and end up having the pass intercepted, batted away or worse yet passing it out of the offensive zone ourselves. I know you want to get a quality shot but any shot is better than no shot or having the puck get away from us. Sometimes you just need to throw the puck on net and hope to put in a garbage goal during a scrum or get a nice deflection. So many times this weekend I saw the puck passed to no one or just not a great pass when there could have been a quality shot on the original chance. That's just my observation and I don't claim to be a hockey genius or even novice so I could be totally 100% off here but it is what I see.

Other than the 3 too many men calls this weekend I think we played fairly well and out chanced Bemidji and capitalized when it was needed. I also have to say watching these games that Steman and L'esperance are beasts, I was quite worried about losing Pietilla and Kero but if Steman and L'esperance can play at their current level and hopefully improve we will be relatively OK.

And finally, way to go Riley Sweeney, great games this weekend and a great final Winter Carnival for him.

This season IS a success by any measure, but we all know how long we've waited for a season like this and I don't want to see it slip away like 2006-2007. This team has the chance to do more, but yes we cannot take this season for granted, it has been amazing thus far. One more win and they have the most wins in a season since MacInnes retired. That is simply amazing, I don't think most of us here really thought that was honestly possible just a few seasons ago...
