Michigan Tech 2015 off-season I: Building on what we've learned...

Re: Michigan Tech 2015 off-season I: Building on what we've learned...

If I had more time, and there were more than a handful of people interested in that stuff, I'd still do it. It was really difficult investing hours upon hours in the linkorama time stuff to only see 40 hits.

I thought about volunteering to help with the linkorama shenanigans at one point when you guys were looking for help but was a bit busy myself and unsure if I'd actually be helpful. That was probably one of my favorite parts of the site. Thank you guys for everything, you did a great job!

Man, I just looked up flights down to Tempe from Oregon and I might have to use my last day of vacation to head down there!

Re: Michigan Tech 2015 off-season I: Building on what we've learned...

At this point, I think any thoughts of Mel returning to Michigan are highly overblown. Everyone focuses on the length of time he worked there, but overlook the fact that he is a Tech alumni. I doubt Mel coaches another team other than Tech between now and when he retires unless the train completely runs off the rails in the next five years and he is asked to step down.

In other news, I was shocked to see that MTU announced their season award winners today. I figured that happened months ago.
Kero MVP... Not a surprise, but nothing for Blake, bit of a shocker there.

I doubt also that Coach will leave.
If he did, I would wish him well, but the Tech hockey faithful would be devastated, a point not lost on him. He is so well respected and such a credit to Tech that it would be very disappointing to end before another NCAA title in Houghton.

I believe something would have to happen for him to want to leave and I don't mean an offer from some clowns. Foolish to think he never could walk away. For example a drop in backing from the higher ups. Unwillingness to upgrade for recruiting purposes, some other major discourse. Such things do happen from time to time in any organization. Those would be reasons for him to step away. In the mean time Go TMel

Coaching at Michigan is the perfect job if you're 3-4 years away from retiring and looking for a big payday.

A 3-4 year farewell tour is not the definition of Bo's mythical "Michigan Man". They're going to want a guy who believes it's the last coaching job he'll ever take (provided he's successful).

I think going to the professional ranks would be far more likely than going back to Michigan.

I too am sorry to see THG go. but I fully understand the time commitment and it did accomplish the goal of getting the university up to date.

seeing how my piano dog jersey was stolen, I personally like the logo and hope it is kept.

WAH!! guess where we are going to be in January!!! pre planned. but WOW! Tech in Arizona!!! this may mean Airstream tailgate time. show those Sun Devils how hockey is done!

according to Andy Johnson, Jack Becker has committed to Wisconsin.

Re: Michigan Tech 2015 off-season I: Building on what we've learned...

Would've thought MTU had the edge after the season they had and his dad being a hockey Alum.

yeah I didn't realize his dad was an alum...too bad, I think he could have been special at MTU.

Maybe he's on the Ford plan? Get a year of D-I experience with Bucky playing the same 5 teams over and over and then come play for a winner. Kids make lots of bad decisions growing up. The smart ones realize their mistakes and eventually change.

Goes to show what Tech is up against. The big name schools still have that allure. From what I've read and heard, Tech was on him way before anyone else. In the end, he chose the Badgers.

His dad Russ was a decent defenseman for the Huskies back in the 1980's.

I believe Russ donated the skating treadmill. And had a terrible shoulder when he played D. Might have even crossed paths with tMel as he left.
