Re: Michigan Tech 2011-12 Season Thread, Part II: You're gonna need a bigger bandwago

From a caller, what does he think of new WCHA in 2 years?
Mel's looking forward to it. You can do 1 of 2 things, complain about all of the changes or go with sometimes change is good. NMU rivalry will get better, LSSU could be a rivalry. Ferrris State #1 team in nation. This will also allow us to play non-conf that we wouldn't normally play. We have a couple things going with teams that haven't been to Houghton in a long time. We'll get to see some fresh new teams up in Houghton. We'll also maintain some rivals we have now. UND and UMD may stay on schedule. Hakstol talked to Mel about keeping them on the schedule when we were in GF a few weeks ago.

There's nothing I don't like about what Mel said there. Thanks for posting. I hadn't even thought about "the WCHA's own" Ferris State being ranked #1. Go Ferris!

You're right! I have a great video to remind SCSU fans about.

.500 isn't mediocre?!

Re: Michigan Tech 2011-12 Season Thread, Part II: You're gonna need a bigger bandwago

Look at it this way - he did the favor of calling us "mediocre", instead of "the perennial bottomfeeders". ;)

EDIT: Seriously, I doubt this Colorado Springs reporter could point to Houghton on a map, and he probably knows nothing about the history of the conference. Just some recent journalism grad who gets paid $20,000 a year to BS about sports for 60 hours a week. Didn't they used to have some other guy? Joe Paisley, I think his name was?

Today is the eighth installment of Future Huskies where we have an in depth question and answer session with one of the committed recruits to get to know more about their decision to play for Michigan Tech and what they will bring to the Huskies. Today we have quotes the Head Coach of the Omaha Lancers, Mike Aikens. Max Vallis is featured in today's installment. The Santa Clara, California native is a well rounded, two-way player that will give his all every shift. The 5'9" forward currently plays in the USHL for the Omaha Lancers and will join Michigan Tech Hockey next season.

I like him already. Sounds like a possible captain in the coming years.

Another good article Shirtless.

What's with the Jamie Phillips parentheses about officially signing for 12-13. Is it Copley coming in 2012 and Phillips 2013?

Phillips could still come in 2012. It's still up in the air. Kinda depends on whether Phillips is willing to play another year or juniors. Not really much more to say.

Sounds like Phillips wants to be here next year, but the staff would rather wait until Genoe is done, especially with Tromp ready to fill the practice role.

Classic roster problem in the first 1-2 years of a new coach's tenure.

FYI, Game 4 was tonight. Phillips had another great performance, allowing two goals on 50 shots in a 3-1 loss. Series is back to even at 2 apiece.
