Re: Michigan Tech '11-'12 Season Thread I: Hope Springs Eternal
Some notes from the Mel Pearson show. They went over the Mankato games as usual and then answered some questions from listeners.
1 - What's team's routine and difference between home/away games.
Mon-Wed are all the same. Home weeks on Thrs, light skate, no skate on Friday. Away weeks, travel on Thurs, practice Thurs when arriving and light skate Fri morning.
2 - How is recruiting?
Going great, really happy with where we are. Nation signing date is Wed, can talk about recruits next week when letters come in. Not many seniors, actively recruiting for next fall and years after that. Excited.
3 - What is situation with Chad Pietila?
Chad will be eligable for GLI, first opportunity to play. Looked good in practice, expect to help in goal scoring area. Skates well, makes good plays, he'll provide some offense.
4 - Is Fillion still planning on being a Tech player?
At this point yes, Mel thinks he's anxous to come here. Got is ACT/SAT reqmts in order, will be eligable for GLI, but will likely wait to play until schools starts.
5 - Status of Tommy Brown?
Tommy should be ready for GLI. Not sure if it will be any faster than that, started light workouts, he lost 9-10 lbs.
6 - Will the Europe trip continue in 4 years?
Think he's interested in it. Concerned with the long length of season starting in Aug, will look at it and see if there's a better time. Wish you could take your freshmen. We'll see, heard postive things about it.
7 - See any other European recruits like Holmber.
Do have connections over there. Would like to get a couple Fins, there were two Swedish players when Mel was here, if they're the right player they'll think about it.
8 - Thoughts on Davis Payne?
Davis is a great guy. Mel recruited Davis and then left for Michigan that summer.
Dirk said you can email anytime during the week and they'll put it in the Mel folder and ask the question on Monday morning.
dj@themix93.com Send in your questions, it's a better show when we get Mel's insight on some things.
They'll talk about Anchorage next Monday, it'll be the team's first games on olympic size ice sheet this year.
