Re: Michigan Tech 09-10 Season Thread: Let's go to Detroit. Twice.
- First of all, that freshmen line was extremely impressive. Not gonna lie. They were looking great and got a LOT of ice time.
- Rickety Cricket looked slower than last year and even more gumpy.
- It was nice to see Lickteig and Gwilliam playing again.
- Kinda surprised that Robo played the entire game, didn't get to see Cramer or the new guy. Robo did VERY good, though. Made some incredible saves and had to face many breakaways.
- The suites are sweet.
- Misfits were not horrible, which is good for a non-pep band exhibition game. We had to be a little more PC but did manage a SEX cheer.
I think Russell stuck with Robo just because he was playing so well. It was a chance for Josh to at least temporarily silence some critics, as JR mentioned that he felt there were "some people" who doubted whether or not Robinson could do the job. Also, the team really needed/wanted to start the year with a W, even if it's a meaningless W on paper. If he's keeping the puck out and the game is close, definitely keep him in net.
That said, Genoe is certainly going to earn himself some playing time this year. He didn't pick Tech over at least four other schools just to sit on the bench. I think Robo is off to a good start, but I also think he still has development to do as far as consistency goes. We'll see how he plays in the first half of the season.
Yeah, that sounds right. And I did not see a lot of some of the other guys like Rohn and MacLeod. That freshmen line and the top line shared about 90% of the ice time, or so it seemed.
I'm watching the somewhat grainy Huskies Live feed, which is passable for what I paid for it, gives me the gist of the action, and seems to be well-synced with Dirk. However due to camera locations, I can't really make out jerseys and have to rely heavily on Dirk to say who is out on the ice and who scored/assisted. It's going to be a bit of an adjustment for me, and I definitely appreciate the closeup replays. I did hear about "the freshman line" a lot, which from what I gathered is Witt centering Gordic on the right and Pietila on the left, correct?
There was lots of talk about Kivisto and how far he has come from his days as a walk-on freshman.
I also heard Dorito's name a lot on the PK. Seemed like he was reading the play well tonight, and stepping up to intercept passing attempts and get the puck out.
I see that Seigo not only started
eek
, but also led the team in shots because of all the time he saw on the top PP unit. Clearly Russell sees a lot of potential in him.
I guess the bottom line for this game is that none of the freshmen looked completely lost or out of place, and a couple were downright stellar.
Ha, no, it was terrible. Definitely made for some boring breaks in play and sucked not having the Copper CA played at a hockey game even though it was advertised. And I had to hear that **** bon jovi song at least twice, which is way too much.
Agreed, it seems that every year there are a few Misfits who get their undies in a bunch because tSBFitW can't coordinate cheers with them, and vice versa for band members who whine about the Misfits not locking in with them. It's a basic acoustics issue that could only be fixed by moving the band into the section next to the Misfits, which will never happen.
Just be very glad we don't have to listen to a canned version of RnR Pt. 2 after every f-ing goal (
*boring riff* "HEY! YOU SUCK!").
