Michigan State vs. Michigan - Can't we all just get along?

Re: Michigan State vs. Michigan - Can't we all just get along?

There is one of two things going on here... or maybe both. There is a different tenor to the smack talk coming out of your camp these days. Either the shambles that your football program is in is finally teaching you guys some humility... or you really are that concerned about your hockey program at this point. Or, like I said, both. The braggadocio that typically characterized your posts has been greatly tempered. Your swagger has been reduced to more of a shuffle (save for UMICHDROOLZ, he's swaggering [staggering?] all over the place).

I think that given last weekends performance you guys know there's a better chance than you would like that you could be swept this weekend. As much as we are hoping for it, you are dreading the potential bloodletting that could go down in Yost in the next 24 hours. The usual chirps are more like peeps now. The pink marshmallow kind.. that you find in the Easter basket. Hell! I even got a positive rep from one of you schmucks for a shot I took in this thread. Cats sleeping with dogs I tell you. (and schmuck was just bravado, thanks for the rep!)

We Spartans on the other hand... we are delirious. So far this year, last year's disaster of a season has been replaced with a hockey team that, well GD it, looks like a hockey team! We have visions of grandeur running through our head. We think we can deal the death blow to UM hockey on their own sheet (hyperbole for those of you that are slow on the uptake). WE WANT THE FRIDAY THE 13TH MASSACRE!!!!

But, sigh, Spartans know letdowns too. All too well after the last couple of years of hockey (and the perpetual letdown in football). We know you are laying back in the wings waiting for us to stumble. Waiting for us to fall. Waiting for us to turn our backs and walk away with our heads hung low while you spit on us. But, having been there so often before,
___we___just___don't___care.
We are punch drunk riding a gravy train with biscuit wheels. GET OUT OF THE WAY =)

side note #1:
Friday the 13th. I break it down this way. Home ice is an advantage and one could postulate there is some measure of luck associated with it. Friday the 13th, being associated with overwhelming bad luck, typically acts inversely upon the amount of good luck one might otherwise expect to recieve. Therefore, I say Friday the 13th: Advantage-SPARTANS

side note #2:
Do you guys recognize how big of a cluster-******* your football program has turned into since you hired that hillbilly? Walvies are great for filling up the pig house. You're not supposed to hand them a headset and a clipboard and let them run the program FFS. We've been down that road so many times we burned the map a long time ago. You guys are lost. We're loving it.

side note #3:
In the spirit of this thread...

GO BLOW!

First of all, I am not surprised that you are "loving" anything negative at U-M. Alot of pent up hostility after being owned for so long.

Second of all, your hockey program has lost six consecutive times to Michigan, and yet you are talking like you are going to come into Yost and spank the Wolverines as if RR is coaching it.

Reminds me of the tool that sat behind me at JLA in 1998 at the CCHA championships. He reveled in the "demise" of the Wolverines (afterall, MSmoo was #1) and how terrible Turco was in comparison to Chad Alban. He howled in delight when Turco was directly responsible for the gaffe that led to OSU's winning goal in the semi's. I calmly invited him to a wager as to what team would go farther in the NCAA's, and he yanked out a $20.00 bill, tore it in half, and handed me one part of it. He said, " I expect to get this back with another from you when the Spartans win it all."

Needless to say, and as fate would have it, Michigan beat Princeton and North Dakota at Yost, while MSU flopped against OSU. Michigan, that sad sack team full of freshmen in 1998, went to Boston and beat UNH and then BC in their backyard, to win the NC.

Oh, and the Spartoon never collected on his half of the $20.00 bill. Never heard from him. Exactly what I expect from your faithful after tonight. :p

Re: Michigan State vs. Michigan - Can't we all just get along?

They'll be alright in football; They've got Tate Fumblier. He may not be able to ever recreate his ND heroics but all that matters is that he never gets nervous. Ever

But yeah, hockey. I hope we are winrars.

And that 6 game win streak doesn't count. We will let you keep that 1 from 2 seasons ago but last season is void.

THAT'S IT.

5 Minute Major - Footballing from Behind 10:43AM
Get in the box.

Call me crazy (but not stupid) - this was a perfectly happy little thread when personal insults and college hockey material reigned. Now its on the verge of decertification. I hope you can all live with yourselves.

Well MSU will kick U-M's butt this weekend, but again we're getting sidetracked so let me say uniquivocally Wuck those Folverines.

So where was all of this bravado last season? You WERE fans last year too, right?

Directing this back to actual hockey...

Thoughts on which Freshman will have the most impact:

Since you all know I don't follow MSU- you'll have to forgive me for not having an opinion for them...

For UM- the only two that have been significan't in what I've seen are Brown and Treais. Of the two, AJ has been the creative, passing, moving around type, whereas Chris is getting a lot of good play on the first line. AJ is making some really killer passes, but so far, he's not looked to see if anyone was actually around him. Chris hangs with the top line, who seem to know where to be, and Brown seems to be able to be there, too.

But when it comes down to it, Treais has one move, and so far every single defenseman he's tried it on has schooled him. Brown doesn't need a move.

I'll say Brown has the most impact as a UM freshman this weekend.

Now wait - are you accusing me of lack of bravado last year? I was on the bandwagon the entire early fall up until about the middle of November!

U-M is playing freshmen? Oh well

My thoughts are the key to keeping U-M off the scoreboard is to frustrate Camolarry and Kinoobil.

That's only going to happen if Kip Miller has a good game in net.

Re: Michigan State vs. Michigan - Can't we all just get along?

Your football program has been a REGIONAL POWER for 40 years...you have a million big ten titles, but nothing to show on the national stage. For crying out loud, your greatest coach of modern times didnt even produce a national title, and you guys were ready to run out of town the one who did!

Again, I am not saying that we have the better football program, traditionally...but you guys are crazy if you think you were a national power. Oklahoma, Nebraska, Alabama, Notre Dame...National Elite programs win national championships more than once every 40 years. The best you guys can claim to be is a regional powerhouse. The 40 straight Bowl Games and million big ten titles is awesome, but it says nothing on the ultimate scale.

You couldn't even compete with the directional schools IN STATE, let alone stutter on about how Michigan wasn't a national power. Classic defense argument. We owned you and so did Ohio State... and they didn't win multiple NC's either. But both of our school's football program (sue me for talking football) were nationally recognized. You don't beat Washington,USC, UCLA, Bama, Notre Dame, Nebraska, Florida etc. by fluke.

You've violated the spirit of the conversation (and can be accused of being a know-it-all) by spelling Miller's first name correctly.

We are as much realists as we are fanatics.

When we talk history, you want to talk current events. When we talk current events, you switch back to history.

The 6 game streak means little. If anything, it means we are overdue as the modern series is even.

If you flip a perfect coin 100 times and they all come up tails, the odds of the 101st flip being heads is still 50/50. What we have been trying to discuss in this thread is that the coin doesn't look to be balanced based on the teams' performance this season. We have achieved much more and have a good head of steam. You're floundering. We like our odds.

FSN is also going to have Abdelkader visit the booth tonight. Maybe he'll bring the Miller clan with him. Maybe Shireen can bring her pom-poms, too.

Re: Michigan State vs. Michigan - Can't we all just get along?

Speaking of FSD... is this in HD tonight?

Re: Michigan State vs. Michigan - Can't we all just get along?

You make it sound like we are some community college.
Well, yes, because that is how I think of State. I actually do respect that State has some good programs, and know a few decent individuals that obtained degrees from there.

For the fourth year in a row, MSU leads the nation in study abroad participation among public universities.
I read this as: "Our students dislike it here so much that they go study elsewhere"

:p

I agree with alfablue. Both on not following MSU and knowing nothing of their freshman, and on who Michigan's impact freshman are.

I'm waiting for Brown to use his size and just make space in front of the net. Treais is fast and his move did work in Alaska. The exhibition games he reminded me of Hensick in the "I'm just gonna skate around everyone with the puck" kind of way. I haven't really seen that since those first two weekends.
