Michigan Hockey 2010 - Delivery or Take Out?

Re: Michigan Hockey 2010 - Delivery or Take Out?

It should be crazy. That's more tickets sold than the attendance reported for Camp Randall this year (55,000).

My friend that organizes the away trips I go on (wore the Mott jersey at the poster's game) got a group of 50 tickets. I know someone else who asked all her friends and ordered 200 tickets.

Got the e-mail from UofM today that tickets are on sale this morning. Both the aforementioned friends got tickets ahead of time as season ticket holders.

Yea, we got our tickets about a month ago. One of the nice things about being a season ticket holder... ;)

It was pretty funny reading the seating chart- they were nice enough to leave the prime, prime seats to the Hockey season ticket holders. But relative to the Big House, it was a tiny, tiny, tiny little alottment.

Re: Michigan Hockey 2010 - Delivery or Take Out?

packer posted on his blog (Blog that Yost Built) that the configuration of the ice is speculated as Olympic size- anyone hear about this?

Re: Michigan Hockey 2010 - Delivery or Take Out?

I just found out that I will be spending a week in Ann Arbor at the beginning of August for NJATC instructor training. What is there to do near the U-Mich campus?

Any casinos?
Any brewpubs?
Decent food (not cheap frat boy stuff)?
Good pizza?
Strip joints?

I didn't feel like starting a different thread because all the local experts are already here.

All the nearest Casinos are in Detroit.

Ashley's, Arbor Brewing Company, Grizzly Peak, Jolly Pumpkin, Blue Tractor.

I'll defer to alfa ;) .

The Original Cottage Inn, Pizza House

Deja Vu in Ypsi is the only one AFAIK, and I wouldn't really recommend going there.

The Red Hawk on State St. (near North University) is a great bar. Many different beers on tap. Granted, I haven't been there in a while but I'm pretty sure it hasn't changed much. Additionally if you are herbal friendly The Stairway to Heaven (next door to the Red Hawk) is a must see.

I actually like the Mongolian BBQ (corner of Main and I think Washtenaw) is good food.

Pizza you need to hit Pizza House (just south of South University on Church).

As previously mentioned Deja Vu is in Ypsilanti but not the best. Leggs is also in Ypsilanti (unless it has been closed down again) but the women there are straight outta the trailer park.

Going up a few on the food front (these are the nicer places):

Logan- on Washington- we know the owners- it's very much worth sitting at the bar, chatting with Kevin about wine- he's very good about knowing his stuff.
Grange- on Liberty- fairly new place that goes out of its way to feature local food. And is high on meat. Oh, baby. Good stuff.
eve- owne by Eve Aranov- she was very shortly on Top Chef, and knowing her, I have no idea why she went on the show- her food is really, really good.

We liked the beer at Jolly Pumpkin, too- so go there. kdilks has good beer places listed.

Make sure that you take the time to sit outdoors- August is a nice month to eat downtown, since everybody sits outside.

Not sure how that stacks up to what you are looking for.

Reading wT next post makes me add this- if you like art, UM's art museum is not to be missed. And it's free. Corner of State and South University. Kinda the opposite end of the strip joints.

What's there to do? Depends on your interest. If your interest is nerdy, I like the natural science museum on campus. I haven't been to the other museums on campus, but have heard good things.
If you like the outdoors a stroll through the arboretium is nice...entrances from behind the hospital or off of Gedes road.

Casinos? in Detroit. If you're just looking for flashy lights and things to stick quarters into...I love Pinball Pete's arcade off of S. University.

Brews and food have been mentioned. My fave for brews are Grizzly Peak and Arbor Brewing Company. If you don't mind driving to the outside of town and like good German food and beer Metzger's is wonderful (from Ann Arbor take I-94 W to Zeeb road)

Take Alfa's suggestion and sit outside if the weather's nice. Go to downtown Main Street and walk until you find something that looks good. Plenty to choose from. My personal fav is Palio's for Italian. Connor O'Neills is a decent Irish pub style place.

Pizza is either Cottage Inn or Pizza House....I like Pizza House's deep dish.

I'm too female to care about strip joints. Some friends have been to the landing strip. Probably a 30 minute drive from Ann Arbor.

Was anyone at the 1991 Regional against Cornell at Yost?

The Daily is writing an article about the evolution of Yost and is looking to interview someone who was in the student section during the series. Can anybody help out?

If you can e-mail: florekmi@umich.edu

I was- and e-mail sent.

I have a friend in Detroit who confirms that there will be a Hooters opening up in Ann Arbor within the next six months.

That is true. They are closing other metro Detroit restaurants (for example, Taylor) and opening sites in west Dearborn and Ann Arbor.

Oh, and the Bennigan's on State is now a Red Robin. :D

Re: Michigan Hockey 2010 - Delivery or Take Out?

What have you guys heard about the College Hockey Showcase with State, Minn, and Wisc? I have a feeling that it isn't happening this year. Wisconsin has been officially announced as playing in the Icebreaker tourny, UMass fans were told at a hockey fan function that they'd be going to Wisconsin to play, and the coach of UAH said in an interview that they are playing at Wisconsin this year. That takes up all of their 4 non-cons plus the 2 for going to UAA this year. Not to mention that the only way it seems that the showcase would work is if it were a Friday/Sunday series which would be BS for the Michigan teams. Has anyone actually heard that the series is happening this year even though it was supposed to be the final time this year?

I heard from Red, at the Dekers banquet, that last season was the final occurrence of the College Hockey Showcase. Wisky wanted out since they wanted to get Ohio State involved in the CHS.

On TheWolverine, I read that Michigan is scheduling nonconference games against UNO and New Hampshire this season. I don't know if Michigan is going to play Minny this season, but I would hope we can keep up our rivalry with them.
