Merrimack Offseason Thread: Everyone else seems to have one.

Re: Merrimack Offseason Thread: Everyone else seems to have one.

Hello - I'm wondering if one of you could assist me with this photo.
I'm interested in knowing the purpose of the patch on his left shoulder.
The photo is of Mickey Rego if that helps.
Thanks,
Ryan J

According to an article in USHR, Murphy might have been pushed to decommit from Merrimack. Not too shocking to hear this, but other than pure speculation from the fans, this is the first time I've seen it in writing. And it was apparently a WCHA school.

And what do you know ...
Wade Murphy, who helped the Penticton Vees to a Canadian Junior A title last season, posted on Twitter that he was in Grand Forks and also posted a picture from Ralph Engelstad Arena.

Mickey played from 2005-08. The program was started in 1956-57. That patch was on the 2006-07 jersey and represented 50 years of Merrimack hockey

Seconded, that's what I remember...

Just an FYI.

Congratulations to #23 Chris Leblanc on his commitment to play college hockey close to home at Merrimack!

Re: Merrimack Offseason Thread: Everyone else seems to have one.

So the season starts Saturday and I was wondering what everyone expectations are coming into the season. I think Merrimack will finish eighth in HE this year. Losing four of the top five scorers and arguably the best goalie in school history will be tough to overcome. I still believe the team will be competitive but will not win some of the close games like they have in the last two seasons. Merrimack will probably lose to close games to BC in the HE quarterfinals, but it still will be a fun winter and at least they'll play unlike the NHL.

Re: Merrimack Offseason Thread: Everyone else seems to have one.

I think we're going to be very solid on the Blue Line and better than people expect in net (despite the loss of Cannata). This alone will keep us in most games. I agree that the season might hinge on putting the biscuit in the basket enough to compete week in and week out in the HE. In that regard, I think you're relying on Collins' maturation from his sophomore to junior year as instrumental to the teams success. Similarly, you're gonna need Myers, Bates and Toomey to step-up their games. Of these I think a full season of Myers might be a welcome surprise to the stat sheet. I wouldn't be surprised to see them finish in the 5th-6th range, with a punchers chance at top 4 and 7th or 8th a very real possibility.
