Merrimack College 2011-2012 Season Thread - vita post Da Costa

Re: Merrimack College 2011-2012 Season Thread - vita post Da Costa

Myers has been cleared to play as of Dec 30, obviously any offensive depth we can get at this point will help

Might provide the spark we need.

Also, McMahon brought up the statistic on his blog that while scoring from the top of the roster has fallen off as of late, scoring from the freshman and sophs have steadily increased (just not at the same rate). If the young ones can keep progressing the way they are, once the top of the roster starts firing on all cylinders again this team is going to look mighty fine.

It definitely can't hurt, assuming he cracks the lineup quickly.

Not sure if he's been allowed to practice by the NCAA or not, if he's had a chance to prove anything to the coach I wouldn't be shocked to see him thrown out there. Dennehy didn't show any hesitation to play freshmen in some big games early in the year (@Maine for instance).

Of course he could be a bust too.

Myers in the line up. Sheen still out. Kolomatis back from injury. Hopefully Bigos pulls his head out of his behind.

Re: Merrimack College 2011-2012 Season Thread - vita post Da Costa

just a few weeks ago I didnt think BC would be having trouble scoring goals or Mack having trouble preventing them going into the long awaited match up on Jan 8th which is a bit tarnished by the way these teams are currently playing

Re: Merrimack College 2011-2012 Season Thread - vita post Da Costa

Big weekend coming up, Friday night at the Terriers, and a Sunday matinee at BC. I believe BU will have Clendening back from WJC?

Warriors seem to have found their scoring touch with 9 goals in the past 2 games, but giving up 6 to St. Lawrence was ugly.

Could we start each game with Bigos in the box to get at least 1 inevitable trip out of the way?

Would love a sweep (MC has been very good on the road this year), would take a split (prefer a win over BU as I think BC is going to pull away in the 2nd half....just a hunch). Getting swept would

Re: Merrimack College 2011-2012 Season Thread - vita post Da Costa

go for the sweep, BU is not top 7 anymore

Until MC gets their roles sorted out, which translates to the performance of the special teams, the Warriors are not going to sweep anything. Power play is about 2 for 30 of late which does not bode well.

Re: Merrimack College 2011-2012 Season Thread - vita post Da Costa

Generally a pretty good game last night. I thought BU played very smart, both teams kept the penalties down (barely noticed the Benedetto and the others which is a good thing). Gill's goal was a bomb; poor play by Broadhag waiting for the puck to get to him up the side boards. Nicastro attacked the puck and made a nice feed across to Gill.
Agree with icewarrior, the MC special teams need some work. BU gets 2 PP goals in the 1st and you're immediately in a hole.
MC carried the play in the 3rd with some good cycling in the BU zone, but Millan came up big for the Terriers.

Congrats to Myers on his 1st goal. He's quick. Why wasn't Toomey in the lineup? For a team hurting on offense, he should be in there.

By the way, BU is CLEARLY a top 10 team if not a top 7 team; right now, given the way they are playing, you can't saw the same about Merrimack.

Re: Merrimack College 2011-2012 Season Thread - vita post Da Costa

Power play was absolutely awful at BC, otherwise a pretty encouraging effort. I guess you can't get upset about taking points from a top 4 team.

A lot of MC apparel on display at the conte as well!

Re: Merrimack College 2011-2012 Season Thread - vita post Da Costa

Still @ #7 after a 1 point weekend is a bit of a surprise to me. Thought they'd drop a couple, but BC and BU are quality opponents so it didn't hurt in the rankings.
Maine is on a bit of a roll lately. They must be playing hard for Whitehead! Will it be "Alfond South" at Lawler next weekend? Interesting matchup of irresistable force (ME offense) vs immovable object (MC D and goaltending). Maine defense and goaltending is supect; might be a good chance for MC to get their offense back on track. Need to improve the PK as both Abbott and Flynn can snipe.
Who gets more penalty minutes this weekend - Bigos or Diamond?:D

Are the students back yet? That will help. I don't think the pats game is going to deter the Mainers from showing up Saturday, either.

If by suspect you mean: terrible; horrendous; nearly nonexistent....then you are correct. If Mack comes away from this weekends series with less than three points, I shall be very happy with my team and dumbfoundedly perplexed by your's.

I will take Bigos on the over. Diamond has been behaving himself lately.

i read in the Eagle Tribune that Dennehy said "if we were to come away without a point it probably wouldn't have been justice, that may have been our best game of the year" . i thought Mack played well but you guys have seen the Warriors a lot, was it their best game? a 2-2 tie with a struggling BC team?

Since the only other game of the year (2012) was a loss against BU, the tie against BC was the Warrior's best game of the year. I guess it depends on your point of view.
