Mack fans, what is your take on the mini slump of late? I like your club a lot and but realize it is a long season and teams have ups and downs.

It also seems like Colgate has a better team by far then the last few years. To those at last night's game, what was your take?

It's a combination of things but keep in mind that this team is missing four key pieces as of the Colgate game:

Elliott Sheen - Sheen started every game this season up until his injury last weekend - he completes the team's top line and his absence has caused a lot of line shuffling.

Dan Kolomatis - Despite being a freshman defenseman, he had earned big minutes for the Warriors up until his injury at Providence. He was a stalwart on the blue line and was terrific at playing the angles and shutting down space for opposing forwards.

Kyle Bigos - The physical junior has missed two games and is an important part of this team - has been ever since he set foot on campus. Some argue that he takes too many penalties, but he patrols the front of the net, clearing out all unwanted guests. He also acts as the de facto on-ice disciplinarian - not lost in a hard-hitting conference like HEA. Simply put, the guy is a one bad mamma jamma.

Quinn Gould - The freshman took a few games to get going offensively, but showed some really nice development over the past two/three games. He left the Vermont game and didn't play against Colgate, so you have to think he got stung pretty good. Gould is one of those 110 percenters who goes all out all the time when he's on the ice. Recently, he has been parking himself right at the front of the net and imposing that 6'3" frame to tap in a couple scores. In his absence, Kyle Singleton will see more time.

Having all of these guys out has wreaked havoc on the line charts - the winter break could not come at a better time right now for the Warriors...

I'm thinking about making the trip for Saturday's game against Union. I see that Merrimack has sold out all their games but 1. What would be the best way to go about getting tickets?

www.merrimackathletics.com and click on tickets. Or call the box office. The higher row, the better. If you want to sit with other Union fans or on that side at least, ask for 10, 11 or 12.

Thanks! I'm very excited to see how this game turns out. Union and Merrimack haven't played in ages, well before both programs have become top 10 teams.

Best spot for pre or post game drinks and food is the 99. If you're just looking for a sandwich, Harrison's Roast Beef has awesome sandwiches. Also, I'll reiterate how imperative it is to request the highest row possible in one of those sections as it's only 12 or so rows high and the view gets a lot better as you get higher.

I'll shout out Culpepper's as well, prob the best microbrew selection you can find in the andovers.

1-2-1 over the last 4, and only scored 1 goal in 3 of those games. 2nd game with PC was one of those bad games most teams have in the course of the season. Began going downhill and snowballed.
Offense continues to be a challenge, but excellent defense and tremendous goaltending means MC is going to be in most every game; no way they're going to win in a shootout, they just don't have the offensive firepower.
Here's hoping the freshman continue to contribute, Sheen, Bigos and the others get healthy, and they find a way to generate some more offense after the break.

The Claddagh in Lawrence after the game.
Packed with students.

If the Warriors get the right personnel on both Units of the PP, and work with the lines to get more chemistry, I think you will see more offensive firepower. The injuries have forced some line combos that will need some time to adjust. I like the Mansfield-Madsen-Velleca line and believe they will put up some numbers.

The Loft down past the 99 on 125 far surpasses the nines IMO

Re: Merrimack College 2011-2012 Season Thread - vita post Da Costa

Depending on what you are looking for, I'd give a vote to Burton's Grill as well... maybe a little higher end than The 99? I've only been to Burtons a couple of times but had a good experience each time.

Re: Merrimack College 2011-2012 Season Thread - vita post Da Costa

Agree with the Frosh, but I think once Sheen is back you have to put that Sheen-Madsen-Flannigan line back together and put Collins with Bates and Todd. You could keep Velleca and Mansfield together with Bhly . And run a fourth line of Singleton/Gould-Jardine-Toomey.

Any chance Vecchione goes MC to MC (USHL stint in-between) or is he heading to DU, now that he has de-committed from UNH.

And any word when this Meyers kid is going to be playing? From everything I've read (and seen via youtube), this kid is a HUGE talent. And should definitely help us offensively in the 2nd half IF he can get the clearance to get on the ice. Anybody? Hokydad???

Can you provide some back story on this? Where is this kid from and why would he be coming in mid-year? Thanks

Re: Merrimack College 2011-2012 Season Thread - vita post Da Costa

Merrimack has some huge talent in the pipeline, finally knocked down the door and getting the younger blue chip types. The kid, Wade Murphy from Victoria is leading his team in scoring with 56 points, scored again last night and is a 93 birth year. 6'+ and 180 already and will fill out more over next year or so. Only risk is WHL as he is pegged a high draft pick. I would get him in here next year for sure. He is the type of player they could not have grabbed a couple years ago
