Re: Merrimack College 2011-2012 Season Thread - vita post Da Costa
Mack fans, what is your take on the mini slump of late? I like your club a lot and but realize it is a long season and teams have ups and downs.
It also seems like Colgate has a better team by far then the last few years. To those at last night's game, what was your take?
It's a combination of things but keep in mind that this team is missing four key pieces as of the Colgate game:
Elliott Sheen - Sheen started every game this season up until his injury last weekend - he completes the team's top line and his absence has caused a lot of line shuffling.
Dan Kolomatis - Despite being a freshman defenseman, he had earned big minutes for the Warriors up until his injury at Providence. He was a stalwart on the blue line and was terrific at playing the angles and shutting down space for opposing forwards.
Kyle Bigos - The physical junior has missed two games and is an important part of this team - has been ever since he set foot on campus. Some argue that he takes too many penalties, but he patrols the front of the net, clearing out all unwanted guests. He also acts as the de facto on-ice disciplinarian - not lost in a hard-hitting conference like HEA. Simply put, the guy is a one bad mamma jamma.
Quinn Gould - The freshman took a few games to get going offensively, but showed some really nice development over the past two/three games. He left the Vermont game and didn't play against Colgate, so you have to think he got stung pretty good. Gould is one of those 110 percenters who goes all out all the time when he's on the ice. Recently, he has been parking himself right at the front of the net and imposing that 6'3" frame to tap in a couple scores. In his absence, Kyle Singleton will see more time.
Having all of these guys out has wreaked havoc on the line charts - the winter break could not come at a better time right now for the Warriors...
