Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: taking H.E. one chair-back seat at a time

I think you'd find plenty of Hockey East fans who would disagree with this. In Merrimack's defense, though, Maine gooned it up in that blowout loss at Merrimack earlier this season. I was there and I thought the Black Bears were a disgrace that night, and not just because they didn't show up to play. Still, I think every non-Merrimack fan would agree that the Warriors goon it up more than anyone else.

says the guy who had a countdown clock for eric gryba breaking a pim record on your website. Gryba was the biggest disgrace this league has seen since wilson.......and joey diamond, holy crap, what a saint he is eh????

merrimack doesn't "goon it up" more than any other team in the league or the country. when teams get blown out, physical play gets out of control. that's what happens in every game.

that being said the hit from bigos on gustav wasnt clean in my opinion. hit him from behind. not in the head, but from behind. that was clear from the video feed online. but it wasn't worse than the knee check on da costa or clendening running cucci from behind earlier this year. how about that federal league? that was clean through, right? ran his effing head into the glass from behind with 4 seconds left.

A lot of names being thrown around as hacks on this thread... Bigos, Gryba, Clendening, Diamond, etc.
Let me tell ya... they got nuttin'.
Nate woulda taken out everyone of 'em with one swipe of his stick. :p :D

Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: taking H.E. one chair-back seat at a time

Diamond has an earned reputation, but I think there is a 5 foot 2 inch prerequisite to be a true 'goon' ;) :)

He's a high energy, big time agitator, with a scoring touch.
Yea, Nate had none of those traits (couldn't score a lick). Just a hack.

Whoosh.

I was just speaking to Joey. I buy the following terms:

agitator
instigator
over dramatic
*** hole

But I can't bring myself to calling him a goon when he can't see over the cross bar. :)

Still isn't as obnoxious as The Gerbil, yet he draws many more whistles...But I'll be happy if he develops into the scorer Gerbe was.

nice ad in the Tribune by your A.D Hofmann thanking the fans for their support and giving deserved kudos to Dennehy and the players..........nice touch.

Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: taking H.E. one chair-back seat at a time

But it is hard to make an argument that they are not THIS year when they are the most penalized team in D1 (Maine is now up to #3 after this weekend). If it walks like a duck.....

Have you looked at the box scores from the weekend? Benedetto was passing out 10 minute misconducts like parents pass out Halloween candy on 10/31!!! How that man still has a job is beyond me...Just look at the box scores from this weekend...159 total penalty minutes called on MC...90 of which were part of 10 minute misconducts...Don't get me wrong...69 "regular" penatly minutes over 2 games is FAR from acceptable, but those additional 90 is what made MC the #1 team in the country...thanks Benedetto...at least you gave us something we can say we were the best in the country at LOL

Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: taking H.E. one chair-back seat at a time

two of the biggest goons i've seen are prestin ryan and jeremy wilson (who is a great guy btw, i lived with him @ MC for a year). Those two were always causing a ruckus....bigos and the other company mentioned here so far don't really come close in my opinion

The all-time leader in PIMs at Merrimack is one of the all-time nicest guys ever. Lots of guys can be hacks on the ice, but know how to act off the ice. From what I've heard, Bigos is a good kid, but he certainly does dumb (and in the case of the hit on Nyquist dirty) things on the ice.

Gryba was a disgrace to the league? You have got to be kidding me. He was an eforcer yes and deserved most of the penalty minutes he got but that was his role and he filled it. I can't remember seeing blatant cheap shot by him. He plays just as physical as your boy Bigos. There is a reason he was the undisputed leader on BU last year. He was a tone setter. You may hate him as an opposition but you would love him if he was on your team. That is how I feel about Bigos. I hate the guy when he starts the cheap stuff against my team but I realize if he was in scarlet and white I would love the guy for his physical play. They both are big guys so they tend to hit guys higher and get more penalties.

And Cucci deserves an academy award for that hit. He was right up against the boards and Clendening hit him standing behind him and he flopped to the ice and banged his head while he was it. He was selling the call for sure. He only missed one game against Lowell(2 days later) and then magically has been ok the rest of the way. That was boarding but it isnt a dirty hit because Cucci put his head down before the game was over and wasn't expecting to get hit. You act like he came flying across the ice to jam his head into the boards. He was simply playing the game out and frustrated obviously so he hit him but it wasn't a dirty hit. Cucci would have played the next weekend if that game was on a saturday night. Merrimack fans out of everyone should be easy to call dirty hits when you play the most 'physical'(read:cheap shots after the whistle) style in the league easily. Not saying every other team is perfect but Merrimack leads the way in that category.

You mean like Noonan this past weekend against Vermont....

Downing deserved a major for that one. It was the definition of hitting from behind and then he taunted him by yelling at him after the fact. If the hit didn't get the major the taunt after was going to.

give me a minute to finish laughing before I respond to your nonsense....

hahahahahahahahahaha.....ha.....hahahahahahahahahaha

Cucci was acting so much be sat out the next game! anything to sell that "fake" injury, right? and what? just because Cucci put his head down, it's OK for Clendening to run him from behind but he was just playing out the game, so its ok I guess.

I love all this "merrimack leads with the sh*t after the whistle" crap. Most often that happens when a team is losing and frustrated, and they showed that this weekend. but merrimack has won 21 games and only lost 7. A team up in a game late isn't starting crap, its the team that's losing.

and this coming from a BU fan who i'm willing to say probably has seen, at most, 3 merrimack games this year.

bigos is no different than gryba. They're both enforcers, or at least the closest you can have in ncaa. Bigos and Gryba are no different. But I think it is funny that you guys (meaning almost every bu fan I know) thinks that bigos is a cheap hack and Gryba was just a real solid leader and physical player.

theyre exactly the same. get over yourselves.

does merrimack play "dirty" sometimes? of course they do! every team does! the difference between you and me and I'll admit it when my team plays dirty. the hit from Bigos on nyquist the other night was not clean. shouldnt have happened. but it was no different than the clendening hit. dont say that one is OK and one is not.

THEY WERE BOTH DIRTY

doesnt mean Bigos is a bad guy. Im sure he's a heck of a kid, i havent met a merrimack player that I havent liked. and neither does it mean that Gryba is a bad kid. Im sure his teammates loved him. bottom line is that if you call bigos dirty you have to call gryba dirty.

I said I would love Bigos if he was on my team...that is basically saying him and Gryba are very similar players and you love him if he is on your team and hate him if you dont. So we agree there so I will move on. I don't think either is dirty but have their moments for sure.

There is a reason Merrimack leads the league(and I think the country) in penalty minutes. You have a good record so it just makes it even more obvious that your team is physical. This is part of your success. Your recruits to this point are not as skilled as Maine,BU,BC, and UNH are pulling in so you have to play physical to keep up and have this year. It is just a statement of fact. Merrimack is more dirty than other teams. They attempt to get under your skin and physical to take skilled guys out of their game. I agree every team is dirty at times. Escobedo has had a couple bad hits from behind earlier in the year but I was at the game of that Clendening hit and it isn't a dirty hit because Cucci misses a game against Lowell for precautionary reason. There is a big difference between a hit from behind sending the guy head first into the boards and hitting a guy against the boards and he happens to lower his head as it happens. I just don't think that hit had bad intent.

Cucci sustained two injuries on that hit, it wasn't an act. He was woozy coming back to the bench, and quite frankly, at the time it happened with 6 seconds to go, there was no need for Clendening to hit him like that.

Agreed. If it was an academy award to draw a major, he eventually gets up and plays the next game. That is a joke for you to say that. You can argue it wasn't a viscous hit because he wasn't the 2-3 feet away from the board, but I will tell you it was a dirty hit as it was near the end of the game and out of frustration, from behind. There is a reason he got 5 and the gate.

The Bigos hit on Nyquist was extremely dirty, from behind, to the head, etc.

Let's talk hockey. Merrimack needs to sweep.

I'll agree to disagree on that one. I didn't see the hit on Nyquist this weekend but if MC fans are saying it was dirty it must have been pretty bad. But yes I expect 4 points from MC this weekend for sure. PC couldnt even get a win on Lowell last weekend

That goes for Prestin Ryan, too. Very good guy, from experience.

Was always funny watching him clean clocks, cause trouble and play 'big brother' on the ice Saturday night, then see he and his fiancee walking their little wimpy toy-bred dog around campus on a Sunday afternoon :)

How can you say he deserved a major? Just because a BU guy dives headfirst into the boards doesn't warrant a GMC. The taunt wasn't a taunt but frustration with the call, because it was BS.

I officially nominate you as #1 Fanboy for the 2010-2011 season.
