he is walking around maine without crutches and took his equipment. looking good for the Warriors for the play off run. This weekend is not the key to their season. If they grab 1 or 2 poits, great but not the key

well you guys have a great set of goons on your team. Seems as though when the going gets tough fighting and cheap shots are the answer.

LOL...yeah, b/c no other team EVER gets frustrated. Too funny Gus :) Have you not been a fan of Maine since the days of Preston Ryan? If you haven't, then you have a lot to learn :) It happens with every team. UNH Got frustrated against us, took some shots (remember, DaCosta has been out since that series)...BU and BC always have scuffles...it's what happens when one team (Maine) completely dominates another team (merrimack)...it's the first time anybody has seen this "goonery" out of MC all year. So don't be putting that title on them b/c of one VERY frustrating weekend. Bigos got what he deserved on Friday night. Just let it go and stop whining, enjoy your 4 points and your, most likely, #5 position entering the HE tournament.

Welcome back to reality, Merrimack.

bzzzz, MC gooned it up on Saturday night of the UNH series and it almost cost them the sweep

That said, they have a LOT more skill than trash and it has shown most of the time....

yeah, but the sat. night goonery was retaliation for the friday night knee check on Da Costa...it was about retribution, which was different from what you saw in Maine this weekend. This weekend was pure frustration, not being p*ssed off about losing your best player.

I think you'd find plenty of Hockey East fans who would disagree with this. In Merrimack's defense, though, Maine gooned it up in that blowout loss at Merrimack earlier this season. I was there and I thought the Black Bears were a disgrace that night, and not just because they didn't show up to play. Still, I think every non-Merrimack fan would agree that the Warriors goon it up more than anyone else.

Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: taking H.E. one chair-back seat at a time

Possibility that Maine plays Merrimack at Lawlor Arena with a healthy DaCosta in the first round. Dennehy said in the pre-game radio broadcast yesterday "that he could play if this were the Stanley Cup". He skated yesterday and will probably play next weekend.

In past years I would agree with you. But not this year. This team this year has asmuch talent as its ever had, when healthy. They are a hard hitting team who opposing fans don't like because there player got hit. but it is what it is. Fans only remember the past and cant see the talent this years team has.

Completely agree, a certain captain of ours took a knee on knee which looked pretty **** intentional.

You can say that again. They were so preoccupied with trying to hurt DeSimone an Thompson that they almost lost the game. I remember at 1 point there were 6 guys in the penalty box for the mack

Yeah, but. Yeah, but...
A db from nu collided with goumas' knee Friday night in a similar play as dacosta's unfortunate injury and no unh players went after nu players that night or the following night.

http://www.goblackbears.com/sports/m-hockey/2010-11/boxscores/20110108_unzy.xml If that boxscore is Maine gooning it up, I guess the zebras must have missed an awful lot. An awful lot.

I haven't seen much of Maine this year, and only saw the last half of the game last night. With that extraordinarily small sample, DaCosta must be quite a player, because that Merrimack team didn't look like a #4 team nationally. I think Merrimack's emergence this year is good for Hockey East - building interest beyond the historical "Big 4," and it's good for the national scene for the same reason. I really have been rooting for you guys this year. Except a few weekends!

Bigos and Flannigan are a big part of this team too, and they didn't play last night either. Not taking anything away from Maine but you usually see a higher save percentage from Canatta too. I expect to see them get some points next weekend and head into the playoffs angry.

You'd have a better argument if that person wasn't goumas, and was, say, Thompson...and how serious is the goumas injury? Like i said, I can't comment on the hit as I never did get to see it, but hearing some UNH fans say that Dis could have avoided it, makes it sound like there was some intent...not so much to injure, but to at least have some contact to send a message. I just think that UNH, as a team, responds differently if they lose their offensive leader in thompson. But whatever...it is what it is...like I said, Bigos hit was a cheap shot from all accounts and the DQ was the right call...Maine really took it to MC and hopefully, pointed out the fact that no matter how good you might think you are, you gotta show up every game and play at a high level, especially in this conference.

Let's hope that Goumas is fine, and hope that DaCosta is back next weekend to start preparing for the stretch run...this weekend happened...if anything, both UNH and Maine fans should be thrilled with MC "gooning" it up...if I remember correctly, before the gooning up on that UNH Sat game happened, MC was controlling the game and the scoreboard. As for the Maine fans, you guys scored 4 goals on the PP yesterday (5 if you include the goal on the delayed call)...hell, as long as nobody gets hurt, you should be thrilled LOL

Goumas was shaken up on the play but not seriously injured and may have only missed a shift or two. I understand what you're saying about your top player, and I've seen it happen before, but haven't seen a team head hunting in response. I said at the time that I didn't see it as a dirty play, and I didn't think the contact by the NU kid on Goumas was on Friday either, but it was extremely unfortunate the result, and I sincerely hope that DaCosta is back asap, I love watching that kid play, and I really enjoyed watching MC play the Friday night of that weekend series.

Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: taking H.E. one chair-back seat at a time

I'm guilty, too. It probably isn't fair to stereotype this team based on history. Every team in the league has had games that they shouldn't be proud of.

In my defense (and Gus's, I suppose), the "Merrihack" stereotype was a loooong time in the making. I'll try to be careful on these boards, and I'll root for MC in the NCAAs, but stereotypes don't go away overnight.

But it is hard to make an argument that they are not THIS year when they are the most penalized team in D1 (Maine is now up to #3 after this weekend). If it walks like a duck.....
The shame is they DO have plenty of talent this year, so the goon stuff is stupid. Being physical, hitting hard, playing the body, even playing with a bit of an edge is one thing; consistently hitting after the whistle, face washing etc. is bogus. I hope Dennehey reads them the riot act, because this weekend looked like MC teams of old, and I'd hoped we were beyond those days.
