Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: taking H.E. one chair-back seat at a time

haha well according to the boys over in the BC thread we might as well not play any season games and just decide the season by pre-season polls and a computer.

I understand that this BC team is absolutely terrifying and will in all likelihood go all the way this year but to say that Merrimack will never win a national title.....ever is just proof of the elitism that exists in Hockey East.

How is saying MC won't even win a national title elitism? Only, what, 17 teams in history have ever won a hockey title at the D1 level? For what its worth I dont think BC will ever win a national title in football either. Doesn't mean I'm disrespecting my own school's football program, it's just reality.

I root for MC because they are an underdog and really should be in the Atlantic League (where I think they'd do very well). You need a team full of Dacostas to make a run at a title, not just one. Good luck this year.

Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: taking H.E. one chair-back seat at a time

judging by other hockey game prices on B2 looks like the feed for Saturday will run you 7 dollars...not sure how clear it is I've never watched a game over B2. Anyone have some insight?

Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: taking H.E. one chair-back seat at a time

you play the games for a reason

Exactly, the good programs that have a realistic shot play them to win national titles, make money, and to promote the school. The others do the last two things. I'm glad we agree MC will never win a national title. Hopefully that will put the whining to an end.

Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: taking H.E. one chair-back seat at a time

As much as I'd like to see Merrimack win a national championship, it appears that the smaller schools are being outdone by the big schools, since Lake Superior won their last national title in 1994. My theory is that the bigger schools have more alumni with monetary funds to build new arenas and have better fan support as a result of pure numbers. Also, with television, kids get the chance to see Minnesota, Wisconsin, Denver, Michigan, BU, BC on tv a lot more than the Division II schools playing Division I hockey.

Northern Michigan, Lake Superior, Minnesota-Duluth, St. Lawrence and Ferris State have had some decent teams over the past two decades, but it is tougher for them to be consistently good every year. Michigan Tech is a good example of how a once proud program cannot compete any longer. Clarkson and Colorado College are two small schools that used to be much more successful than they are currently.

I believe for Merrimack to be successful they must recruit Canada very well, which I believe they are doing. I've gone to at least 25 Merrimack games a year now for quite a while, but the fact is kids in New England grow up wanting to play in the Beanpot or for UNH and Maine. All the top players in Merrimack's Division I era with the exception of Joe Exter and Joe Cannata have come from Canada or Europe.

I'd love nothing more than to see the small schools like Merrimack, St. Lawrence, CC, NMU, etc have success, but it is getting more and more difficult.

Listen I'm in no way shape or form saying that this team/program is poised to win a title ANYTIME soon. That's not what I'm saying. All I'm saying is you cannot speculate what these programs will look like 20, 30, 50, even 100 years down the road.

Academically Merrimack is rising exponentially, who's to say their hockey program won't follow suit. Like I said who the hell knows where this program will be 100 years from now...you CANNOT make that speculation, and in doing so you make your self look like an idiot.

This program is back on track after having been derailed for some years...who's to say where that will take us. Just sit back and enjoy the ride. That's all I'm saying. Do I expect a national title soon..duh of course not! Do I expect them to compete? Absolutely. Do I expect them to have a shot at HE at make it past the regional playoff series and get to the garden? Depends where/who we have to play in that first round but I would expect to have a shot.

Like I said, sit back, enjoy the ride, and don't talk in finalities.

I agree with you wholeheartedly, but it's a message board. People make wild and provocative statements. Of course, college hockey could once again be more friendly to the smaller schools.

I'm not a BC fan at all, but I wouldn't get to heated about what some people on a message board say.

Heated? no no, I don't get heated. Maybe slightly annoyed. Come on now..you think I would let a bunch of Jesuit educated elitists ruin my day (only joking there don't jump on me, most of my family have BC diplomas).

But I think it makes it worse that I am a BC fan :)

Looking across the room at my signed framed Schneider jersey right now haha

Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: taking H.E. one chair-back seat at a time

so, who has experience with B2...how are the feeds usually? Obviously not expecting anything spectacular but overall worth 7 dollars?

Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: taking H.E. one chair-back seat at a time

It's worth it for the first game of the year to see the Warriors in action, but not worth it enough to change your Saturday plans. The best thing to do is watch it later "on demand" if you want to see the game. Must have a fast connection and don't open but one other window or it will slow things down.

Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: taking H.E. one chair-back seat at a time

was there last night, place looks real good.

Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: taking H.E. one chair-back seat at a time

Are the seats in yet HokyDad or just the positions for them to be put in like at the Blue/Gold game?

They are 100% in.. Looked very nice. Was there with an old BC player and he even complimented them....

Why can't you speculate? Isn't that what you are doing? MC will win one at some point down the road... possible around the same time ME fans are picked on for being hicks, UNH won't be chastized for an empty trophy case, and around the time BC fans forget about the UVM hazing scandal. One thing is for sure, speculation based on one average year makes it tough to see your point though.

So if you speculate and say that MC won't win a NC then you look like an idiot, however if you speculate that MC will one some time before the earth ends you don't look like and idiot? Hmm, strange... I guess I'm just going to have to accept that I disagree on this one...

Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: taking H.E. one chair-back seat at a time

Yes renovations are definitely looking good :) It will be nice to showcase this warrior team and their new arena to new england on the NESN game in January.

Student section is not as extensive as I thought it was gonna be...if you look at the second link I posted, it's the last picture of the gallery.

ahh,ok, looks fine and is it a ton better than was there before which was nothing........... an excellent step in the right direction. looking forward to seeing it

i've watched a few on B2 and as i said on another thread, quality wasnt the greatest but you could at least follow play and for $7?? IMO very much worth the price

Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: taking H.E. one chair-back seat at a time

ya I figure for 7 dollars...even if it sucks beyond belief...what's 7 dollars? lol

And ya it will be fun to have that drunken stupor of a crowd right on top of opposing goalies for once. They'll have fun back there for sure :)
