You insensitive pr*cks.

I'm gonna miss that tin-foil too. :( :p

Wait....the Jiffy Pop roof is gone????

Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: taking H.E. one chair-back seat at a time

Whatever, the point is it's not a big deal and there's no reason to act like a D-bag about it. Chill out and have some fun chatting with fellow fans.
In my experience people have way too much anger on these boards. There's far too much nit picking over stupid stuff like typos etc..this isn't my legal research and writing class so I really don't feel like getting criticized for typing out a post on my iPhone and having a word spelled incorrectly from time to time..that's not the point of a forum.

This thread is to talk, constructively, about Merrimack College Hockey...not to bash someone about their thoughts on removing a reflective ceiling, regardless of whatever positive purpose it may have held. You could have simply said "ya it might look better, a lot of people might not know this but its purpose was actually _____". Instead you act like a pubescent boy that just got his rolly-sneakers taken away at an arena. There's no room for that kind of crap here.

Leaving that behind, I'm very excited for the weekend and for games to start being played...I'll be in my jersey infront of the TV with the comp hooked up to it watching it over B2 Saturday evening before going to my own birthday party haha.

Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: taking H.E. one chair-back seat at a time

At least with the tin-foil, the Zebras KNEW when a puck was out of play. If (WHEN!) a puck passes THROUGH the "rafters" without hitting one, is it still playable? An obvious deflection by a rafter will be a dead puck with a face-off occuring at the impact point BUT will you need instant replay (a la Major league baseball) to determine if a puck was REALLY a "home run"?? :) :D

I, for one, will miss the bleachers! They reminded me of The Alfond back in the Late 70's - Early 80's.

Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: taking H.E. one chair-back seat at a time

a puck going up and "through" the rafters is still playable for sure. It has to hit something in order for the play to be blown dead. I will say that it does look much better than the old situation they had going. Regardless of it's purpose it didn't look great, and leaked terribly for all 4.5 years i was at the school. Good riddance tin foil

Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: taking H.E. one chair-back seat at a time

haha there were times when pucks punched through it and got stuck up there. Perhaps Hockey East was complaining about having to buy/replace too many pucks haha only joking.

I'm excited to see what Cannata will do as a full-time set starter. I personally think he's gonna flourish, he's gonna be up against some loaded offenses early with two games against BC just a few weeks away.

Other people's thoughts on the subject?

speaking of lawler/volpe....new pictures are up @ merrimackathletics.com....most of them are of the lobby area, but there are a few of the interior. Looks much nicer than before...anything is an improvement

I think JC will be just fine between the pipes. I will say I'd be slightly worried about nights where they may need to give him some rest, but for the most part I don't think we'll have an issue

I have seen Cannata in practice and at the Blue/Gold game, he looks strong positionally, and I think the knowledge of being the de facto #1 will help him mentally.

In terms of numbers, the point was made earlier in the week that this Merrimack team was at it's peak last year with Cannata as their man during the stretch run (6-2-1, .932 save percentage, 2.08 GAA).

Getting Niagara and UCONN under his belt should be a nice work up to UVM and BC, just so Joe can see some rubber before the in-conference games get started.

Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: taking H.E. one chair-back seat at a time

sick and tired of attitude in this league, this Merrimack team is so refreshing and can do some great things...can't wait for Saturday! Roughly 48 hours away from the puck drop!

Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: taking H.E. one chair-back seat at a time

Yes renovations are definitely looking good :) It will be nice to showcase this warrior team and their new arena to new england on the NESN game in January.

Student section is not as extensive as I thought it was gonna be...if you look at the second link I posted, it's the last picture of the gallery.

That being said the picture doesn't do it justice, but its just some collapsable benches...we have an average of 500 students come to each game which those benches will obviously not fit.

From what I've gathered, chatting with Mike from the Tribune, the spill over will be into where the student section was last year (which will remain benches until christmas break). However...once that area is also chair-back seats I'm not sure what will happen. I assme they'll still let students sit there but I'm not positive on that.

It's ok, Brown is an annual doormat too. Dont' fight it, it's easier to embrace the ineptitude. The games are far less nervewracking when you know a loss is coming.

Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: taking H.E. one chair-back seat at a time

haha Merrimack used to be in that position, not any more. Those days are long gone. How's Brown lookin this year? Play any high profile games? I see you have a game at agganis..maybe I'll head down there and cheer your boys on :)

Brown will be meh this year, but there are some legit recruits coming in here over the next few years. Fortunately for Brown the ECAC is an easier mountain to climb than Hockey East is. Maybe Brown and Merrimack will shock the world and play eachother in the Frozen Four final some day soon. :)

I'd be happy with an NCAA tournament berth! :D

haha well according to the boys over in the BC thread we might as well not play any season games and just decide the season by pre-season polls and a computer.

I understand that this BC team is absolutely terrifying and will in all likelihood go all the way this year but to say that Merrimack will never win a national title.....ever is just proof of the elitism that exists in Hockey East.

We play hockey games for a reason, and to speculate as to where programs are going to be 20 years from now is the furthest thing from reality based thinking as there is. OK vent is over!

Anyone else planning on buying the video feed on Saturday?

Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: taking H.E. one chair-back seat at a time

ncaa berth is not going to happen. hate to be blunt but it's more realistic. The polls are generally putting MC 5-6 in HE....we're not going anywhere in a super hurry. I'd love to see it, but i'm not as optomistic as some. If we can turn around some of these 1 goal losses that will obviously help out. It's also nice to have the school behind you (or the other goaltender). When I was there we were lucky to get over 250 students a game, and that's being generous

Jesus H Christ your whining about this is getting old. It has nothing to do with elitism. MC is never going to win a D1 national title. Did I not outline the many reasons why in the BC thread? Just like BC is never going to win a national title in football. But we can still have programs and take away appreciation from it and enjoy the games. Both programs are the face of the school on the athletics front and both have a purpose.

Let's just enjoy the season.
