Merrimack '21-'22: Can't a guy get a thread around here?

Um, lost the lottery because they ended up against the 8th place team? Just an FYI, Merrimack scored 2 more goals this season in HE play than BC, and gave up 21 fewer goals. I think it is more a question of will Benson play outstanding. Last time I checked, outshooting the opposition doesn't win you the game. True, Gauthier and Nesterenko are outstanding offensive players. Gauthier would be ROY if not for the insane number put up by Hutson. But Merrimack is pretty deep, plays excellent team defense and whether it is Ollas or Borgeil in net, they are both very solid.
Oh, and that Jefferies kid is pretty good too.
ps Will you even cheer for BU in the NCAA's? That would take some doing for a BC fan.

Yes, I do root for BU in the postseason (that's why I am BC/HE for Hockey East) but if it comes to BU against another Hockey East school it will always be the other school such as Providence when they beat BU for the National championship. Honestly BC is the team no one wants to play now. Lately, even in losing they have looked formidable in controlling the play. Of course they have made blunders and they are likely to do the same somewhere down the road but they also have one of the highest ceilings in the league right now. Previous stats mean nothing, BC will be a very tough out for anybody. They have finally figured out the best line combinations. If I were a Merrimack fan I would have preferred any other possibility for this game. Vermont was not an option as they could only play BU.

BC is consistently inconsistent this season and just because they had UMass's number this year means nothing because MC had their way with BC this year.

I'm hoping BC wins but BC cannot take dumb penalties. Their PK we all know is awful this year and cost them a lot of games during the season.

What a game! Could have easily gone either way earlier. Congratulations Merrimack. Now go out and beat Lowell and perhaps secure an NCAA bid even without winning the Hockey East championship. Chances are extremely bleak without that next win as the WCHA will now get two bids due to Michigan Tech losing. Therefore barring any other upsets 14 PWR is the cutoff.

CCHA. And they were already getting two with Minnesota State and Michigan Tech. The danger is if Northern Michigan beats Minnesota State next weekend (unless you are saying that loss would knock Minn State out of an at large spot).

Thanks, and I agree, what a game. BOTH goalies were fantastic. Benson weathered the 1st period as Merrimack carried the play and he was terrific throughout. Ollas was huge (well, IS huge at 6'8"). He was immense in the 1st OT as BC really ramped it up. Two very LOUD posts by Gauthier (I hope for you guys that he stays....he is fun to watch).
Merrimack is on to the Garden for the 1st time since 2011 (lost to the Eagles that year in a great title game. Cam Atkinson with an absolute laser for the winning goal).
Here's hoping that they can beat UML for the 3rd time. MC sits 14th in the PWR right now, but I agree, one more win will get them in.

While they are currently in, Minnesota State would have been in danger should they lose and had it been to Michigan Tech, it may likely have limited the CCHA (keep forgetting that change) to only 1 bid. Now that MTU is out, they will get 2 and if Merrimack loses to Lowell and Northern Michigan wins they could get 3. However, Merrimack beating Lowell likely puts the Warriors ahead of Minnesota State should they lose.

Well I finally got an e-mail at 7:30 this evening with a link to purchase tickets for Friday and/or Saturday night. This should have been available Monday. I waited through 5:00 today, and since I hadn't seen or heard anything, I ultimately bit the bullet and went through TICKETMASTER (makes me gag just typing that). I had to hunt down the Merrimack specific sections through a couple of team contacts, and have tickets nearby. Here's the "Merrimack Specific" link:

No mention of any pregame location (UML will be at Hurricane's.....and PC is at Hurricane's earlier in the afternoon).

What a complete travesty and a complete screw job. Who votes on this anyway?
Picked to finish 8th and they finished 2nd. Beat BU TWICE!!
BU picked to finish 2nd and finished 1st.

Just incomprehensible

He used the system in place to put a very tough team on the ice. Totally legit even though I don't like it, those are the rules. He should be COY.

Borek should take not winning as a massive compliment. Clearly some coaches don’t appreciate losing to him.

It's just unbelievable. A coach who had to deal with the unexpected death of an assistant coach just weeks before the season began, preseason rank #8 and finished #2, coached through adversity and helped them compete. This is such a joke, shows all the other leagues what a joke Hockey East is. Voted by the coaches in Hockey East - his coaching peers - what a slap in the face. I'd like to hear from the coaches who didn't vote for him and what their reasoning was, but I'm sure they will stay silent.

Haven't posted on this board for years, but when I saw what happened I just couldn't hold it back. WOW!
