Merrimack '21-'22: Can't a guy get a thread around here?

Watched your game last night...congrats on your success and hope it follows you all throughout this season!

They are playing real good hockey right now. They are learning to win and the goal tending is solid almost every night. Go Warriors!!!!!

This incredible unexpected season rolls on. Not their best game of the season against the Friars, but sometime you need a little puck luck (or an opposing goalie who really shouldn't be wandering from his crease). Tied for 1st (with games in hand vs. UConn) AND up to 3rd in the pairwise rankings!
Disappointing that there is no longer a current PC thread. Lot of good posters gone missing.

Sometimes puck luck gets made and Leibold made his own luck. I think this season will keep rolling as long as they keep digging.

Well if you're going to have a dud game, I guess it is better to do it in a non-conference tilt? Drops the Warriors to 8th in the poll and 6th in the pairwise.
5 straight home games coming up including 2 against the Friars and 1 against NU. Really need to take care of business at Lawler.
Zach Borgiel remains undefeated in net at 8-0-0 and may have grabbed the reins as the #1 goalie.

Many at UNH are also not scoffing at Borek’s success.

I'd say at this point, many at UNH are now 'coveting' Borek's success...living vicariously through it, to be completely honest! Seriously it's great to see a team that had been down for so long do so well and wishing you guys all the best..

The pairwise hit would presumably have been MUCH worse if they dropped the Dartmouth game.

3-3 tie against a weak Yale team is not something to get excited about, although they did come back from down 3-1. At first I thought it might have been weak goaltending in the 1st 2 periods, giving up 3 goals on 10 shots. Then I saw the highlights. Horrible give away on the 1st Yale goal, really weak clearing effort on the 2nd goal, and a man left all alone in front on the 3rd goal. Yikes! Really need to tighten that stuff up in league play.
Calverly with 2 goals and and a helper was huge.
Overall a bit bumpy start to the 2nd half; needing OT to beat Dartmouth, losing badly to PC and needing to come back to tie Yale.

What was a bumpy start to the second half of the season just got rockier. Not ready to play (giving up a goal :31 seconds in), undisciplined (5 minute Major, Game Misconduct and another 10 minute Misconduct) and poor play in net (second straight game where Ollas has given up 5). Maybe they've been looking at the HE standings and thinking "We can just throw our sticks out there and beat these lower tier ECAC teams". Not how it works boys. I refuse to believe the air is leaking out of the balloon, but I think I might head to the hardware store from some Flexseal.

Borgiel HAS TO own the net for the foreseeable future.

Out of conference games are done. Time to get back to work.

Man the lifeboats, the SS Merrimack is taking on water! U-G-L-Y. Last night's game was so bad they didn't even put up highlights, not that there were any.
Goaltending and defense have collapsed and now not sure WHO to put in net. Pretty much a crapshoot.
They better come out tonight with their hair on fire.

I, too was encouraged by the 3rd period comeback against Yale but am shocked by the collapse since... Mid-season funk? Need an inspired performance tonight without question!

Whew, that was a nice way to right the ship! Ollas was immense in net, stopping all 35 PC shots. PC carried the play for most of the night, but Merrimack cashed in on some chances. Terrific patience by Griebel on the 1st goal. Waited and waited and finally slipped a backhand into the net. Great shot by Welsher on the second goal, picking up a juicy rebound and going "bar down" as the kids say.
Still in 1st. Huge weekend series against the Huntington St. Huskies next week.
Go Warriors!

They came out alot more hungry last night knowing that they HAD to win. Ollas was back to first half form. The shot count was a bit decieving as far as puck management goes. PC had some at the very end with the empty net, and MC missed the net with quite a few tonight. A couple of those in close chances MC had and couldnt capitalize on would have been huge.

Well that was disappointing. Sold out arena, 1st place on the line, and you come out flat flat flat. Saw that the shots were 9-0 NU to start the game, and they already had 2 goals at that point. Too many games lately were Merrimack is not ready to play from the drop. 1-4-1 in their last 6, and all of the losses were blowouts. Tough not to know what you're gonna get out of your netminder. I was at the 3-0 win over PC, and Ollas was outstanding. Last night, maybe not so much.
Jefferies only has 2 goals in the last 9 games, and one of those was an open net. Copponi only 1 goal in the last 7 games. Brar, 1 goal in the last 9. Need these guys to step up big time. Hoping for a better result tonight but not feeling confident. I imagine Borgiel will be between the pipes.

Was at the game last night, my first visit to Matthews. It reminded me of the old Olympia in Detroit, much smaller, of course. Both teams played inspired hockey and both goalies were outstanding. A terrific game to watch.
