Mcha 2010-11

Re: Mcha 2010-11

The whole MCHA landscape looks different these days. With regards to Marian, Wise has done a very good job of marketing the school in Alberta. He put together a really great recruiting class last season, and that was enough to create some separation from LU, LF, MSOE and Finlandia. It will be interesting to see if anyone else has put together a similar class this season. The AQ is massive from a recruiting perspective. Finlandia should benefit greatly from the stability created by (and the quality of) the new coaching staff. Even with a short summer it looks like they were able to find some nice kids. Clearly they will be better. MSOE looks like it has some good players coming in as well. They have a lot of institutional support and great facilities. LU has a very good coach at the helm and continues to improve year-over-year. I could see them taking a game or two from Marian this season. LF has been around the block as a program and its staff knows what it needs to do to get back to where they were a couple of years back. Their tradition and name recognition is still very strong.

Oh, and Adrian isn't going anywhere, anytime soon. The margins of victory might be smaller, but they will continue to be an excellent, excellent program even after the graduation of this senior class.

All in all, it should be a pretty interesting year for the league. I would hope that in a year or two from now, we can look back and say that no one team will ever dominate the league quite like Adrian did during its first three years. That would be league-wide progress. It is also up to a couple of programs to make that happen.

Lake Forest does have a long, successful tradition, but don't they also have a brand new coach this season for the first time in over 30 years? It remains to be seen if the staff "knows what it takes," but I wish them the best...

You might be right. I thought Gregory had been there for a bit, but it looks like this is only his third season working for LF. Shows how much I know...

Re: Mcha 2010-11

Sorry about that...I was just chompin at the bit I guess. From what I've heard Marian is improving and Adrian should make a run this year...but what I was worried about is Lawrence, Lake Forest and the rest of the MCHA making strides as well and competing with the rest of the west. It would be good to see more than 1 MCHA team break into the elite this year.

Re: Mcha 2010-11

Marian puts another game in the win column for the MCHA in N/C play. Very nice.
I must admit the shots and scoring exceeded my expectations.
If they play a wide open game with Adrian in a couple of weeks......how much fun will that be to watch ?

That is about as good of a start as the MCHA could have hoped for. The Marian result is even more impressive when you consider how much time they spent in the box. The UWSP team that LU beat is a very, very good squad. Adrian/Marian should be very entertaining hockey. I expect a very high scoring game from both sides. I am curious to see how the LU/UWEC and the Finlandia/Marian games turn out this weekend. I think we will see some improvement from Finlandia and Marian is obviously a good test.

Re: Mcha 2010-11

I know it's early but,....this is a first, in my brief experience following the MCHA, where games are being looked upon with great expectation, and promise. There's still a way to go, but it's a good sign for sure.:)

Re: Mcha 2010-11

From what I saw last nite, Marian has stepped it up a notch offensively from last season.
It's unfortunate that they will not meet Adrian (at least in the regular season) on the big ice sheet in Fond du Lac.
They are one of the fastest D-3 teams that I have seen.

I don't believe Adrian will be playing in Fond du Lac in the 2011 post season either, as the MCHA final four will be hosted at the Arrington Ice Arena. The next Adrian team that skates in Fond du Lac will have 18 freshmen.

Marian could theoretically host Adrian in a first round series.

Theoretically.

Re: Mcha 2010-11

Yeah, well, Northland could win the D-III championship this season, too, but that ain't happening, either.

Finlandia should be vastly improved. They have a solid coaching staff this year.(Last year was an interum year.) They seem to have picked up alot of solid players and kept several key players that they already had. But like you said AVFC, Marian should be a good test. I'm hoping that they are competitive.

Christ, I hope they're improved. They won five freaking games last year.

Re: Mcha 2010-11

If Finlandia goes undefeated I'll lick the ice clean at the MCHA tournament between periods of every game.

What is your problem! Is it because you have "idiot" writen under your name? Is it because you ruined the Adrian thread? Or is it because of your list of drunken dolts that you idolize...U have been around since 1999... Adrian hockey has only been around for the last 4 years...just shut up...What do u know?
