Would you say the same about Northwestern?
Say what?

What stateofhockey said. A bunch of co-workers went to the Northwestern here in Mpls, but I knew not of that college, and I assumed they were talking about the IL one.![]()
Just for the record, Northeastern is located in Boston, Mass.
As one of the few Northeastern fans in the house, I was asked that question many times over the two days. My favorite one was this:
Mid-aged MN fan all decked out in Gophers gear: So, where is Northeastern anyways?
Me: Boston, Mass.
Mid-aged MN Fan: Oh. Is that like, who we are playing tonight??
LOL
Love going to games at Mariucci and hope the Huskies make it back out soon. Overall, U of M was a great host and the fans were more curious about NU than anything. There were a few knuckleheads that started to get on our small group of fans at the end when they started to realize that Minnesota was most likely going to lose. My general impression of the fans was that the overwhelming majority thought Northeastern was some no-name scrub team from somewhere out East sent in to lose handily to the Gophers so they could win their tournament on their home ice. Somewhere during or after the game, I hope that impression changed. (I realize that doesn't apply to the knowledgeable posters on this board). Another big win on the road for the Huskies!
Glad you were able to enjoy your time at Mecca - good luck the rest of the way unless they should meet again.
JDUB - he wasn't ripping UM fans rather I think he was saying it's a pretty common reaction when playing out west.

This qualifies as a FAQ anytime you're in another part of the country and Northeastern comes up, whether or not in the athletic context. My all-time favorite was on a football trip to James Madison (Harrisonburg, VA) a few years back and went something like this:
Local: Where-all is Northeastern?
Me: Boston
Local: Where's that?
The local's arn't the swiftest at JMU. Did you go to Walmart down there? Its quite an experience.
No, but I did take in the Waffle House.![]()

Being invited to this tournament is the UMTC athletic department telling you "Your team is not good."
Yep. That's why BC has been in it.
