We'll have to agree to disagree.

If the hitman is the one who fired the bullet that killed the person, they are the killer. While the person who hired the hitman may be more culpable, and should receive a tougher sentence, that person did not kill the other person. They were simply responsible for setting the actions in motion.

Equating the hitman scenario to my football analogy, it would be similar to a coach purposefully attempting a 60 yard field goal, when he knew his kicker's max distance was 40 yards, instead of throwing the Hail Mary. The play call assures that the coach's team will lose the game, and while the coach may be responsible for that loss (and may get fired as a result), the coach didn't miss the field goal...the kicker missed the field goal.

I hope none of you is under the delusion that I didn't know that piece of Colonial trivia. :p

If Faux News had existed in the 1770's we'd still be a British colony. Hancock, Washington and Franklin were dangerous terrorists.

History is written by the winners. We won. If Great Britain had won, then Washington et al would have been hung as traitors. Who knows how His Majesties colonies would have turned out?

I've been trying to turn this into a joke, but can't quite, so here's the story version: my sister-in-law is an IP attorney, and she recently had to make a last-minute trip for a court date in another state. Due to the lack of planning, she ended up staying in a rather seedy hotel. As she checked in, she mentioned to the clerk that she had an early court date the next morning. The clerk's eyes grew wide and she asked, "At the Federal Court? What did you DO???" At which point I interrupted my sister-in-law and said, "Well, I hope you came up with a less ****ing story than admitting to being a lawyer!"

Because they're crazy, not stupid? Besides, do they actually still do that sh*t? Seems to me I've read of several recent instances where they threatened to picket, but didn't actually show up. Maybe the donations are drying up.

In Texas, the person who pays for the hit and the person who carries it out are both guilty of capital murder and are likely to get a hot shot. Famous case from Houston of a guy who hired a hitman to kill the woman who adopted him for his share of her estate. When he ran through the money, he hired the same hitman to kill his adoptive sister, her husband and infant son for her share of the money. The people of Texas, through their elected officials, decided to excuse these two from furthur participation in life.
