Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

Fair point, this week is a good week to judge him on his stats with the Four Nations Tournament in Slovakia because he will facing his peers (u-17 event). The fact he has played eight of the nine games the U-17 team has played in the USHL says something.

Three out of the last five games with McNeely in net they have loss by two goals or less. In the 7-2 loss to Cedar Rapids, it was 4-2 going into the third. He hasn't been pulled from any of his games either so I have to assume not every goal is his fault.

Give him time I think the numbers will go down but at the end of the day they will be ugly because how young the team is.

Numbers if you just look at them are ugly, but here's some details of his games:

10/29/09 vs. Omaha Lancers (USHL) - Lost 3-2 had 46 saves - USA outshot 49-28

10/24/09 vs. Cedar Rapids (USHL) - Lost 7-2 had 38 saves - USA outshot 45-24, Cedar Rapids scores 5 power play goals

10/23/09 vs. Sioux City (USHL) - Lost 4-3 (OT) had 34 saves - USA outshot 38-23

10/17/09 vs. Indiana Ice (USHL) - Lost 4-1 had 31 saves - USA outshot 35-19

10/16/09 vs. Sioux City (USHL) - Lost 4-2 had 40 saves - USA outshot 44-21

10/10/09 vs. Green Bay (USHL) - Lost 5-0 had 50 saves - USA outshot 55-23

10/03/09 vs. Chicago (USHL) - Lost 10-5 had 32 saves - USA outshot 42-27

10/02/09 vs. Chicago (USHL) - Lost 5-1 had 29 saves - USA outshot 34-26

09/19/09 vs. St. Louis (NAHL) - Lost 4-2 - came at the start of the third period and gave up one goal on 12 shots - USA outshot in the 3rd period 12-3

09/18/09 vs. Wenatchee (NAHL) - Lost 5-1 had 30 saves - USA outshot 35-23

09/16/09 vs. Bismarck (NAHL) - Won 4-3 (OT) had 32 saves - USA outshot 35-25

I know I am comparing apples to oranges here but last year I watched Bangor High School defeat Skowhegan 11-4. Skowhegan's goalie was the best player on the ice that night because he kept the game close. I believe it was 4-2 heading into the third but the team was out of gas. He made 59 saves.

Have you seen him play?

Effective today (10/27/2009) Chris Heisenberg now has Searfoss going to Nebraska-Omaha.

Nebraska-Omaha... what? "what the ******* kind of hockey is there in Omaha" (i think that is how it goes) (Slap Shot 2) (bad movie)

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

Hey, Nebraska-Omaha is top 10 in the country.

Ahh, remember the good old days when Maine was ranked top 10 in the country? Good times. :(

Watch For UNO to start on a solid program now that DEAN BLAIS is in charge....the big factor for UNO is going to the influence of Blais to the program and in there recruiting.

But, why would good players want to go to a backwater like Omaha? When they could be in Boston or Minneapolis? You just can't get kids to come to those places stuck way out in the sticks.

McNeely played in two of the three games at the four nations cup, defeating russia 5-2 and then switzerland 8-2. he finished with a 2.00 gaa and a .918 save percentage, stopping 45 of 49 shots over the two games. the us won all three of their games, as they knocked off slovakia in the game that mcneely did not play in.
