Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

Has Maine always allocated scholarships this way?

Yes. Very few players enjoy a full schollie. Typically freshmen get r&b paid (since they're on campus anyway) and have to pay their own tuition and books. Upperclassmen find an off-campus apartment which they pay for, while having the team pick up their tuition & books.

When one well-known recruit came to visit campus he asked Shawn for a full four year ride. Shawn almost laughed him out of the office. The kid was in such a huff, he went back to his hosts' apartment, packed and left.

Gilroy, 0/4
Bonnino 1/4
Very few 4/4's out there and usualy go to the early signees with hot pursuit.

Like the Hayes kid from BC or Coyle from BU etc.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

dont hold your breath. not being negative, but it will be tough to play for his father and his father has tried to coach eveywhere he goes. NH Monarchs, Exeter and now he shows up at Maine? He is not a top 3 line type guy but will be forced into that role. it will not work out for maine

Hokydad -- find another forum, please. Corkum committed to Maine when he was USNDT player. He was expected to come in with Hegarty, but sustained several injuries. So, he opted to play with the Monarchs (his dad was already there), got hurt again and sat out all of last year. Outside of exhibition play, I doubt you will see Corkum play next year. He's been out of hockey completely for a year and half.

If he were my kid he would never play again while living under my roof. What is the price he may pay in the future should he endure another injury?

I have no idea what your agenda is and ignore most of your "expert" opinions, but this is simply a moronic comment! Number 1 Kelen has been dealing with post concussion syndrome for some time so saying anything negative about the kid, who may never play again at an elite level, is asinine. Number 2 Kelen was recruited by Guy Perron, I don't think part of the agreement between Guy and Bob was (and they played together at Maine) "Hey Guy, you can sign my kid, and after this season I get your job so I can coach him!"

You outdid yourself on this one! IF Kelen does come back it will be with everyones support, but at the same time concern that if he takes a cheap shot, or even a hit like Hegarty took vs. Gryba, that next time it will take more than 7 months to recover!

We've been trying to tell him that on the PC thread for months...nothing better than a guy who isn't a PC fan telling the rest of us we "shouldn't be so relentlessly negative" after the last couple of years.

No matter what thread he posts in, his utterly bizarre, off-base and groundless opinions take little time to show up. But challenge him on any point of substance and he'll reply with "you're a loser, get a life and move out of your mother's basement." Always an intelligent line of discussion there... :p

No agenda what so ever.

just find it strange whena dad has to coach his kid on every single team he is at. If you are there for the team, why always leave when the kid does?
Is it a good situation for a kid?

If you think for a second that it wont factor in and benefits of the doubt wont be given for lines and playing time you are high.

Whitehead was the head coach then and is the head coach now, another assistant leaving is meaningless.

I hope he comes back from his injury and kicks a**. In my opinion, this is not though an arms length transaction where a Bob Smith from Minnesota is brought in. If that makes maine better, all for it

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

I can't blame him for not coming here.

i think people are getting a little up in the air over this for no reason... aside from his comment about wanting to come east (which didn't happen at all) do we even know if maine was actively trying to recruit him? all this speculation is based on his statements and nothing more...

that said, judging from his stats, he appears to be very talented, and would certainly be a solid DI goalie...

We need a solid DI goalie. Maine probably didn't go after him.

You're a dumb***. What you think about Corkum is irrelevant. The guy was a stud at Maine, played over a decade in the NHL and was one of SW's all time favorites. Maine is lucky to have him. I could care less if he's here because of Kelen. And, assuming you were right, his biggest offense would be wanting to coach his kid. Wow. Brutal.

Shouldn't you be lining up your USHL fantasy team or something.

Wait and see when all is said and done and you tell me if a 4/4 helped maine win a national championship

Winning a championship won't be decided by one player's contribution. The team's performance over the next four years won't be based him alone.
