Re: Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

Just called Eagan head coach to try to confirm Merchant commitment, but he wasnt available. I talked to him on Friday about Sam Wolfe (still waiting to hear back from Wolfe) and I got no indication about Merchant making a commitment.

I know Norman hasnt worked out, but its fair to say theres a lot of talent in Minnesota to go out and get something Maine hasnt done in a few years

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

This just in from Twitter, Maine has another forward (not sure what year) but he is Captain at Eagan High School in MN (same team as Wolfe) Will Merchant has committed to Maine. Here is a look, another with nice size! http://mnhockeyprospects.com/2012-nhl-draft-prospects/will-merchant/

He is a Mr. Hockey finalist this year in Minnesota High School hockey.
Congrats on getting Merchant, I heard some rumors that he was thinking about Michigan Tech, disappointing to hear he is going elsewhere.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

Eek. So we're now trying for leftovers from Minnesota that none of the big midwest schools want and beating out Michigan Tech.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

Nick Roberto from Kimball Union on board. Old teammate of Ceratanni from their Malden Catholic days

nice F

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

Lomberg is scoring in the USHL........but I sure hope that he improves on his -20.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Its a lot easier to teach an offensive forward how to play defense than the other way around. His team is awful too so that probably has a lot to do with it.

Its nice we got a couple more forwards coming in. I wouldn't read very much into who was or was not recruiting them. Anyone have any info on them? Would be interested to hear how Roberto compares to Cerratani.

irishfan85. Merchant is leftovers? Finalist for Minn Mr Hockey. Chris Dilks lists him in his top 5 Minn seniors. Got anymore expert opinions to share with us?

Trying to be positive, but missed the NCAAs four years in a row has really soured me on Tim's ability. I was one of his biggest supporters when he took over here in Orono. We've had some decent players from Minnesota. I liked Reimann a lot, but in general the top players from Minnesota go to the U, Duluth, North Dakota, and other WCHA schools. Yes, BC and BU have plucked a few good players from Minnesota. We'll see. I'm just curious to know why Minnesota, UMD, UND, etc weren't interested. In 2002, Maine might have won a recruiting battle over those three teams. Not anymore, especially with Minnesota kids.

If it is true that Merchant is leaning towards Maine, could that be the spot that Boisvert was and now being taken by Merchant..? With your know how, what became of Boisvert..? What was the reason for his name being taken off the "H" List..? Thanks, alot of Questions, but like to know why a Recruit comes to Maine or why he leaves after committing.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

Morris had quite a week for Dubuque. He started the week on Wednesday with a 2-0 shutout (25 saves) vs. Des Moines. He then had a terrible outing vs. Cedar Rapids on Friday getting pulled after giving up 5 goals on 10 shots and taking the loss. The next day he pitches a 3-0 shutout (21 saves) vs. that same Cedar Rapids team. LOVE that about Montgomery.....challenges Morris by throwing him back out there and he responds with the shutout.......LOL.

Can't wait to see him in a Maine uniform!
Solid Goaltending and Defenseman is the recipe for Maine next Season.

Take it for what it's worth, Roberto is listed as the 35th best junior by USHR...
35. Nick Roberto, F, ’94 (KUA/Uncommitted) 5-9/170—A coaches’ player. The former Malden Catholic forward pays attention to detail—finishes his checks, stops on loose pucks, and blocks shots. Has finishing abilities and is looking to take his game to a Hockey East school.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

Just think how much better Maine would have been if they had kept Derek Arnold.

Leading the number one team in Hockey East in goals and has 25 points so far this year. Runs their PP and has 8 PP goals alone so far thios year.

Are you really bringing this back? This was old 2 years ago. I appreciate your info on Roberto and others but Arnold is in the past along with Austin Watson and all the others. We're over it.

Sad but true... Only because more then one had said he was not a good player and wouldnt matter. Wrong.....

Count me as one that said something to the affect that it would not matter. And to that extent I was wrong as he has turned out to be a very good H.E. player. However if I remember correctly he was slated to matriculate to Maine the previous year and Maine wanted him to wait another year. He was not happy about that and decommitted. Now maybe that was because Maine wanted someone like a Mangene (who knows), but clearly waiting another year did not hurt him.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

He doesn't matter. He might matter next year, depending on how quickly the touted freshmen develop.

Maine's got the best PP in the league, #2 in the country and two guys with as many/more PPGs than DA. They've got 5 guys with as many or more points, one of whom has doubled him up, and four guys with as many or more even strength goals.

They don't miss him in 2011-12.

I agree, Maine is doing well. Lost in qtrs 6-2 last year to Merrimack and is in 4th/5th place this year after losing to PC this weekend.

When they lose again in qtrs and fail to make NCAA's again this year, I am sure the battle cry will be the same...

Mangene is a junior, zero to do with it

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

Correct me (and I know you will) if I am wrong but originally Arnold was to arrive with Mangene, Beattie, Shemansky, etc., and then when they wanted him to wait a year more to arrive that is when the proverbial crap hit the fan. So not zero to do with it.

Serves me right for apologizing!

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

Why are you guys arguing with Hokydad, he is right, Tim blew it with Arnold, you could see it last year when Lowell played in Orono early in the season. The kid can run a PP. Are any of you surprised Tim blew it with a recruit? I'm not

Seeing that he came in last year, when he was always supposed to, cant agree with you

One is a sophmore, other a junior. DA came in the same year he was going to at maine. He walked from Maine because they wanted him to do one more year.... Which means he would be a freshman now at maine, not a sophmore at Lowell.
