Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

Name a single team in college hockey this season that would have gone .500 in a decent conference in the 90's. It doesn't exist. The ENTIRE college game is a shadow of itself.

Agreed........but recruiting does need to improve and so does conditioning/in-game coaching.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

Would Pryor make the Merrimack team? No. Would Walsh have cringed at the fact that for two years running, Merrimack either took the season series or eliminated Maine from the playoffs? Think that would have ever happened? Think Maine would have been the 8th seed in the HE Tourney? If college hockey is so down (I agree) why can't Maine capitalize and do some damage? You know why? The coach stinks.

Maine and 4 other HE teams are in the PWR Top 9.........that says something right there, no?

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

Wow
Pryor has got a peeing contest going on here. He was pretty highly thought of by Wisconsin before something happened and he changed his mind and came to Maine. Not sure he has lived up to that hype but maybe that hype wasn't fair. I do believe injuries have hurt him and his development, Tommy Reimann is a decent comparison. A few knocks to the noggin might change the way you play, more tentative or at least I would be. I don't believe he is an awful D1 Dman, I don't think he is a great one either. He is tentative in his own zone but part of that is not getting comfortable due to lack of playing time, injuries, what have you. The question is, who on the team is better that isn't playing? Who are you going to insert instead of him? Rutt is your only choice and Rutt is getting some time. The thought that Hegerty is awful just makes me laugh, he turns the puck over also but he is far from awful. I think KIA said what do you expect from a bulldog told to play like a toy poodle.
One other thing, is it his fault for not developing? Do you really think he isn't paying attention in practice? I doubt thats the case, in fact I highly doubt it

You see these guys way more than I do, so I'm not gonna quibble too much. (But...)

I was at Merrimack when Pryor sustained that (lower-body and concussion?) injury in his first year. I loved his motor in that game, and considered him a real keeper. Since he came back he seems to have lost his fire a bit, but I guess having your brain knocked around will do that to you. Heggarty, I was never really sold on.

It's all about how they execute the breakout. Heggs is especially careless in that respect. I am so tired of seeing him try to waltz through his own crease in traffic, make a panicky pass, and cough it up for a shot or for extended zone-time for the other team. He has ability, but exercises poor judgment regularly, if you ask me.

Not picking on the kid; he just doesn't exhibit a natural D-man's instincts, IMO. Been too much of that sort of thing at Maine for a few years now.

I don't see anyone arguing that. But I for one am going to wait until the offseason until beating the dead horse again. This is supposed to be a thread about recruits

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

my friends and I always say that hegarty ALWAYS makes the wrong pass coming out of his zone, and we're rarely, if ever, wrong. he's way too risky coming out of his own zone. with that being said he's a decent on-man defender and wins a lot of battles in the corners. he's also doing a decent job in front of the net on the PP.

he's an average/slightly above average defensemen in most facets of the game but he's **** poor coming out of his own net and anyone who disagrees with that loses all credibility. in this case it may be your opinion but your opinion is just plain wrong.

as for pryor he's almost as bad as hegarty coming out of his own zone, BUT he shows flashes. he has pretty solid deceptive moves with the puck and he is a decent puck carrying defensemen but he needs to dump the puck rather than trying to beat the third layer into the zone.

does anyone know any way to find stats on eagan and what year he's supposed to be coming in??

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

I have been overly negative lately. I will say, if everyone arrives, next years class looks to be best in a while.

I think these are accurate descriptions.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

Blindly checking the box score? I was in the building that night and it was the best defensive game I've seen Maine play in 6 years. So sorry I don't think the roster's full of guys who are "not good D1 defensemen."

They're not perfect, but they've improved and a blanket "they all stink" statement is bogus.

http://www.wildcat-hockey.com/page/show/389090-home...near as I can tell, he is junior this year and Heisenberg has him listed as 2013 arrival. Wonder if he'll finish high school and come or play a year of junior first?

...and for what its worth, Pryor is the most improved d-man this year. Not sure that says a lot for him considering who else is on the blueline. On the other hand, the 'battle' for most improved d-man should be wide open considering who else is on the blueline.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

For all that are complaining about the Monarchs on the team.... How would this team look with Brian Dumoulin (former Monarch) ?

How would they look with Mario Lemieux, Cam Neely, and Bobby Orr?

I think the general point when speaking of the EJHL is that it has produced some great players (Coyle?, Dumoulin obviously, Gilroy even though he was several years older than everyone, heck even Joe Rooney) but after skimming those guys off the top and distributing them to the BCs and BUs, it's a rough place to do business regularly. Not impossible to find a good player underneath that top layer (Mangene?) but obviously not exactly up to the USHL standards for depth and the competition is clearly weaker in the EJ as a result. Has Maine shown they can get one of these EJ top players like a Dumoulin yet? I don't think they have in quite some time anyway. And if that's agreed upon, asking where they would be with Dumoulin is kind of pointless as he was one of the best players in the country and chose to go to Boston like a lot of the great New England players do.

so am i wrong? nobody with two eyes could argue that hegarty or pryor are good coming out of their own ends. just watch the games.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

Maybe those guys from the Monarchs are busts.....probably Corkum doesnt really know them as he thought he did.... What da phk they doing at the top of the national scoring stats? Posers I tellya. Surely there must be some reason he believed in them. Bobby, bobby...speak to us man.
