Maine Recruit Updates: All Are Welcome.......

Somehow managed to forget about those two... And I think you're spot on... they're nice to have, but not going to make or break the program... and that, I think, is the genesis of what I'm saying... the coaching staff should be focusing on areas where the talent pool is deeper because drawing those players will be a difference maker... adding to that the occasional Maine native that can contribute is simply icing on the cake....

Seeing that Veseys brother is better than any forward on your team, maybe they should be looking there

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: All Are Welcome.......

Walshy sold Eric Weinrich on Maine, a kid every D1 program lusted for, before Maine had a winning tradition. Can Guite, Leach, Gendron do the same today? He also sold Jack Capuano whose family had no ties to Maine as far as I know.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: All Are Welcome.......

Have to agree with you on Rutt. Just another Timmay guy that will be gone in a couple years. Just another version of Joey...takes stupid penalties

You're actually comparing Joey and Rutt. Have you watched either one before?

Weinrich was from Gardiner.......and like I said, recruits and their families from out-of-state don't have the same built-in negativity about UMaine that Northern Mass. Mainers do..............

I would include Gardiner/Augusta as part of northern mass. His dad was a sheessy poopoo architect. Can you imagine how easy it wud be to recruit Maine kids to Maine if da Bearz played out of Portland? :)

Says that he's coming next season.........does that mean Spicer is not?

Not necessarily. It sounds like he needs a bit of work with his skating and I think a year in the USHL would do him a lot of good. It might depend on what Norman and Hutton do as well. He sounds like someone with a lot of promise, Maine def needs a RH dman and someone with some toughness.

It appears that Maine is in the market for right handed shooting defensemen.

When you start 6 lefties every game something tells me it has to have an impact! Have heard NHL guys talk about the difficulty of playing the offside in a pairing and for the 2nd year in a row most of our guys are doing that. Brice O'Connor being the only righty to play d in the last two years.

I was involved with the program that year. Jack was a BU verbal. He played at MSC in RI and intended to go to BU until his Maine visit. It was before Alfond expansion and 4000 fans going crazy changed his mind. He called his dad that night and said he wanted to go to Maine. It was the loudest crowd of any school he ever visited
