Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

Darling looked like a fish being tasered out there. Never seen a Maine goalie flopping around and out of control so much. Un-freaking believable. He must have looked like a shooting gallery to the MSU players.
The goalie coach Alexander sure has done wonders with the goalies since he came in.

Yeah, I think theres more and more parity in the league each year, unfortunelately Maine doesnt seem to want to keep up with the middle of the packers. Or cant I should say. I am not surprised BU lost to UMA on UMA's ice.....not at all. UMA will apparently be better than I had given them credit for. I would guess right now that the underacheivers this year will be Maine, UHN and Merrimack....with the possibility of Providence. Dont know yet what Northeastern will show, but Cronin will squeeze ever last bit of juice out of whoever he's got.

You know, I wouldn't mind the flopping around nearly so much if he wasn't out of position so much of the time. Who was it...Blair Allison who made a save on his back sticking his legs up in the air in a playoff game? It was a desperation save, but it worked. That was back when Maine played a different kind of hockey for sure.

I say give Sirman a shot and then what? If he's not up to the task where does that leave us? Sirman can look good with a good team in front of him, but that is not the case here. I expect we're in for a long season!

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

Maine is 3-19-2 in calendar year 2009. Let that sink in for a moment.

Does it really matter if Sirman gets lit up tonight? Give the kid a shot. See what happens. It's not like 3-20-2 is that much worse.

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

I remember UVM running Jimmy behind the net, full speed.
A shift or 2 later, Mushaluk had the guy lined up. And did nothing. That was when I saw what the Timmy rule for retaliation was.

Notice that nobody ever runs the opposing goalie either, EVER, and Derek was the last one to knock the net off ...'scuse me, to Curry the net off its moorings.... against UND opening weekend 4 or 5 years ago.

I don't remember the last time Maine ran the opponents goalie. Prestin Ryan is the only one who ever retaliated. Whitehead wasn't going to stop him that's for sure. I would start Sirman tonight since Maine has nothing to lose.

Since the break last year Maine is 3-20-3 with a 3.64 gaa and .870 sv % absolutely pathetic. Darling is 2-12-2 4.00 .856% which has to be the worst numbers in the country in that time period.

Do those numbers include the BU playoff series? Because if so, double yikes.

Dunno, what were Wilson's? :D

Game is on in southern Maine again tonight.

I just got back from the hospital...how badly did Maine lose tonight?

They... won  3-2 lead starting out the 3rd, 3-3 then 4-3 with around less than 2 mins left. then an ENG to win it 5-3. Nearly got another ENG.

Someone said they seem to have 2 good lines this year, compared to 1 line last yr.

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

Pros:
- Played 60 minutes hard
- I liked their offensive instincts
- Very tenacious
- Improved on face offs from last night
- Good physical play

Cons:
- A number of soft turnovers
- Power play needs a lot of work
- Need to win more 1 on 1 battles

Just a quick list of what I saw. They looked good to me. I've seen them play well in the early part of the season each of the past few years so we'll see if they keep it up this year. I'm not convinced of anything yet. The underclassmen looked very strong.

so, Maine just beat a team ranked about 45th in the country earning a split.
I do not think you can gloat yet....

you notice you have had NO luck convincing us of anything regarding Tim's wonderful abilities?
YOU had no luck getting Jean Hay Bright elected and you had no luck convincing the backward people (as you called them) of South Dakota that you were right and they were all wrong about THEIR choice regarding the legality of abortion IN THEIR STATE... you think maybe it IS you after all?

Why would I bother convincing you of anything? All you do is post about how worthless Tim is and should be replaced, but no one here seems able to convince President Kennedy of that fact. I even posted his number, but to no avail. How did your meeting go? Oh, you never met with him? Why not? VIP's would meet with the university president and make change happen. The fact that he's still there, and seems to have the fan's support, tells me you're about as useful as sunscreen at the North Pole.

By the way, not that it matters, but the voters of South Dakota rejected the abortion bill not once, but twice. Good call though.

Maine did play hard tonight for a change. Great screen by David DeKastrozza on the Nyquist goal.

Thats key right there. Can they maintain the intensity they showed last night for the entire year? Or will they revert to the Whitehead slump and consequent sloppy, lethargic play? Time will tell.

On a positive note, good to see Darling look more like the guy we saw at the beginning of last season to a certain degree. His floping factor seemed lower last night. :D

Great all around effort by da Bearz against a very solid MSU team. Gotta have that same effort night in and night out to be competitve in HE though. Nyquist is such a force out there. Fortuneately, hes got a few new guys around him that'll keep the opposing teams honest out there so they cant simply smother him.
