Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

One note on the game...the HIT[ya right]on Nyquist was a BIG-TIME Cheap shot that the MSU player should have been given a 5 min. Major/DQ....and a few UMaine team-mates should have followed that punk right into the side-boards after that BS hit.....no need of it at all...and right in front of the referee...BS totally...dangerous & visious play.

Maine doesn't stick up for their teammates under Whitehead. Whitehead didn't even say anything to the officials on that play. We need another Prestin Ryan

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

Maine=individuals who dont know how to play as a team
MSU=a team

Geeeezus, I wish someone would just call a time out, or phone in a bomb scare, or anything after we score first....anything to prevent the other team from IMMEDIATELY tieing up the game......gawd that makes me wanna puke.....how many times do we have to watch this ??????

We need a goaltender..........bad.

Credit MSU....they have some good, young talent. I thought Maine played hard, but as usual, not much came of it.....we are inefficient as all hell.

I epxect MSU to win walking away tonight....I just dont believe theres that much fight in this Bear. Guess we'll see what they're made of. Its gonna be a long 0-fer stretch apparently....I wouldnt count on them necessarily being able to beat St. Lawrence or Providence to end it either....

Whitehead's "system" is just awful. Yes, every team has to play within a system and a game plan and play strong team D, but Whitehead's style takes it to a new level in terms of limiting inidivial playmaking. It just seems like guys skate around at full speed without generating any quality shots at 5 on 5. Maybe that philosophy works with a super efficient power play, but given the team's endless problems with shorties I'm not sure I want them going on the PP.

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

After a couple of PPs, Michigan State attacked the points like their was no tomorrow, they figured out that Maine can't get the puck inside at all and all their PP O was going to come from the points. Attack the points and no O, didn't take long for Comley to figure that out

There's a time and a place for stuff like that....AND that hit was it....a Prestin Ryan type and a Firey Back-Bone Coach is needed to instill some grit, pride and Team unity......guts baby G U T 's.................

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

I didn't see an article on line about the game.

Whitehead needs to be told to take a seat and let Corkum take the helm. We need to get this program back on course.

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

Does Maine really have to have an advertisement for everything?? I mean c'mon faceoffs brought to you by US Cellular, power plays by napa. Maine must be really hurting for money to commercialize the program like this.

Money Donations have slowed down and single and season ticket sales have dropped again this season....

Same exact thing happened at Union.

Maybe Comely and Lerman are the only 2 college hockey coaches in the world who pay attention to the opposition during the game and make appropriate in-game changes. Maybe.

I remember UVM running Jimmy behind the net, full speed.
A shift or 2 later, Mushaluk had the guy lined up. And did nothing. That was when I saw what the Timmy rule for retaliation was.

Notice that nobody ever runs the opposing goalie either, EVER, and Derek was the last one to knock the net off ...'scuse me, to Curry the net off its moorings.... against UND opening weekend 4 or 5 years ago.

You're not kidding. Out of all the problems this team has which is pretty much everything this is the biggest(other than Whitehead) in my opinion. At least with good goaltending you can steal a few games which is the only way this team will win any. I'd give Sirman a shot tonight he can't be any worse than Wilson or Darling have been.

We don't need individual playmakers, we need guys who know how to utilize their teammates, move the puck around to generate scoring opportunities, and then bury them when they present themselves. This team did that in the first period, and got two goals out of it. Then for some reason, they stopped playing as a team and tried doing it all individually, and got nothing to show for it except blocked shots and stripped pucks.

I said it last year, but how can a team with Bob Corkum as a coach be so bad on face-offs? TIMMAY needs to swallow his pride and let Corkum instruct those guys on the bench as the game goes on. You saw shots of Comley prowling up and down the bench barking instructions, well, the best time to teach a player, especially a young player, is when the game is going on. He screws up, or misplays a situation, you sit him on the bench and say "this is what you did there, this is what you need to be doing in those situations". Otherwise, they keep making the same mistakes, and by Monday practice, it's kinda hard to generate a similar teaching situation out of the blue in the midst of practice. Practices aren't games, the intensity and the speed just aren't the same, and the exact situation is just a dim memory on film.

This team needs to play way more physical, especially on defense. So you might take a few penalties, better to be penalized laying some guy out rather than that ticky tack arm shove they called on Dimmen(?) Laying a guy out sends a message, and that message is, stay away from here if you want to have your head attached to you after the game is over.

Pretty easy to figure out when that's all Maine did on the PP. Get the puck to the point, take a shot, try to get rebounds. Rinse and repeat.

Why not move the puck around to the half boards, and then to the slot? Set it up behind the net? Do something just to vary the attack, and keep the defense guessing. Pass the damm thing around instead of just shooting from the point, again and again.

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

And another article by Larry with no comments at all by TIMMAY in it.

Darling did not look strong last night, but he had no defense in front of him. Even a good goal tender can't play the other team alone. Still, I agree, give Sirman a chance. We've got an awful lot of money tied up in goalies who are mediocre at best.

Looks like there are problems with other teams too. BU lost last night in a game they should have won. North Eastern just eeked out a win over Bently by 1 goal. Union tied their game, so they are looking good in places other than at Maine. BC lost one of their recruits to Major Juniors. This kind of supports the early comments about how college hockey is shifting.

I'm wondering what the season will be like all around the game and what Hockey East is going to look like. Maybe, as bad as Maine is playing, they might still be able to finish middle of the pack. I know...but I'm trying to be optimistic even from a pessimistic viewpoint!

Nero started this garbage when he took over and it has gotten worse and worse since than. Its ridiculous.

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

Well another loss for lil timmay...is anybody surprised. I hate to see the team lose, but hopefully the more losses the quicker they have to get rid of timmay!! It's a bad catch 22 but that is probably the only way he gets fired versus riding out the contract.
Fire tim now.....

If Maine had some REAL talent.......I might feel worse about it......but other than Nyquist, is there really any legit talent on this team. I don't think that any of the top teams in the league would want any of Maine's players other than Nyquist.

Darling looked like a fish being tasered out there. Never seen a Maine goalie flopping around and out of control so much. Un-freaking believable. He must have looked like a shooting gallery to the MSU players.

Yeah, I think theres more and more parity in the league each year, unfortunelately Maine doesnt seem to want to keep up with the middle of the packers. Or cant I should say. I am not surprised BU lost to UMA on UMA's ice.....not at all. UMA will apparently be better than I had given them credit for. I would guess right now that the underacheivers this year will be Maine, UHN and Merrimack....with the possibility of Providence. Dont know yet what Northeastern will show, but Cronin will squeeze ever last bit of juice out of whoever he's got.
