Maine Offseason 2020: We Stay Home But Swayman Leaves

The start is pushed back a weekend. My guess would be this has something to do with UVM cancelling their season. Disappointing but certainly could have been worse.

I think you're right about Vermont being involved. Because Vermont cancelled their first 6-8 games of the season, the league may be trying to balance the schedule.

Yeah, as a follow up it was announced Umass and UConn are playing this weekend. Maine and UVM had a couple flex games scheduled later in the season so those are likely conference games now.

Guillaume Richard signs with Maine. Currently plays for the Tri City Force of the USHL. 6-2 180 lb. defenseman expected to play for Maine in the 21-22 season. According to some pundits he could be drafted in the 2-3 round of upcoming NHL draft.

Maine needs forwards who can convert, above all else.

Agreed. A lone scoring defenseman isn't going to produce a championship team. In addition to scoring forwards, Maine needs a goal tender. Perhaps they have one. Time will tell.

I have no reason to be optimistic in either case. Red is a proven failure, for years and years now.

Reds nothing special for sure.
As to what they do with his contract is a hanging issue.
With the mess everything is in right now I expect a one year extension. The school has bigger things to deal with right now.
Didnt the nli by Richard dispel the theory that a lame duck coach cant recruit talent?

No games till Dec 8 and we all know that will get moved to January. What happens after that,??? I say its likely no hockey gets played

Nothin new here, how many times has this story been stated.

UMaine men’s hockey has to make big changes if it wants to challenge for a national title again

You’re right that we’ve seen a bunch of these but I think this was the best of them. It was nice they got comments from players from a lot of different eras. It’s very disappointing that Maine would be dead last as far as coaches pay and recruiting budget.

I was watching some of the 2012 frozen Fenway game over the weekend and it’s crazy how much better Maine’s goaltending and defense is now versus then. I think o’neill is the only dman from that team who gets into the team now. We haven’t seen the new goalie(and the new third goalie is supposed to be decent as well) but Sullivan was nowhere close to as good as Swayman or Thiessen.

Maine no doubt needs a few more high end forwards, hopefully there are a few in this year’s freshmen class, but the team overall has made big strides during Red’s tenure.

Huh? "Big strides"..? Pass me that blunt, or that gallon of bathtub gin.

Maine was far far far better under Whitehead, and that's beyond undeniable. Red has done absolutely nothing aside from burying the program much deeper.

JHC. Get real. The evidence is obvious.

Really? I agree with Fishman, put down the bong. You will be lucky to ever see this kid

It really is incredible how much better of a coach Timmy becomes as time goes on. No doubt he was able to recruit some really good forwards, but the goaltending and D were complete disasters. Not to mention he typically had no fourth line and oftentimes a mediocre third line as well.

A lot of people decided a few years ago Red was bad and they wouldn’t change their tune even if Maine wins a national championship. He’s not Shawn, and no one ever will be, but it’s hard to realistically imagine Maine would be any better off with someone else in charge. That’s even more true when you factor money in.
