Maine Off Season 2011

Re: Maine Off Season 2011

I tried getting that ball rolling a couple years ago... telling people NOT to renew their season tickets making sure to tell the athletic dept. exactly why. It would not have taken a rocket surgeon to do the math (lost ticket sales>Tim's salary+cost of a search) and come to the correct conclusion regarding what was best for Maine hockey. Blake had no interest in helping the program, he helped his friend.

oh, look a soap box....
Kindof like how things work in Washington... help your friends, no matter what it does to the country.
I hope you all go see Atlas Shrugged soon... don't worry about the plot and story lines, listen to the message and try to see Barney Frank and the rest of Washington...
off the soapbox
People are letting their feelings be known thru letters/e-mails...now it's up to Abbott to put the hammer down come next spring if their is no chance of improvement this coming season and beyond...if Abbott drops the ball..(puck..!)..then Maine Hockey is done as we use to know it back when Maine Hockey was KING....has the makings of a VERY long/dissapointing season...speaking to Maine fans at the Frozen 4 in MN. led me to believe that there is NO ONE on TW's side and everyone is in the Frustrated mode to say the least.

Paging wally, wally to the negative rep button. Or do you just care when the statement in question is mildly liberal?

Re: Maine Off Season 2011

I gotta figure if Maine goes through a 10 or 12 win season next year, then Whitehead's probably gone. He's gotta at least make the HE playoffs.

I said it earlier, but look at the talent he had on this team, compared to his team from three or four years ago when the top line was Bellamy, Hopson and Ryan, and he only managed to eke out four more wins than that team had. That's just not good utilization of that talent, period. As well as a poor coaching job overall.

I gave up when the political crap kept coming into the thread. I prefer any all politics stay out of here unless it pertains to Maine hockey. Its happened several more times since your statement. I ignored those also

one other thing I never gave you negative rep so get that out of your mind. I already told you that, apparently you don't read very well

I agree so much that I'm gonna repeat myself yet again.

This year's team was pretty well loaded.Better than a few of Shawn's teams that won 20+ games and help build his legend.Tim just does not know how to utilize talent when he finally has it...The last straw,IMO.

Tell ya what, though,I don't expect Maine to buy him out. We're looking at two years of whatever we get.I'm just hopeful that the search for TW's successor will start yesterday, and that '13-'14 will be the season that starts the turnaround in Orono.

Re: Maine Off Season 2011

So what is the general feeling on goaltending in Orono going into next season?

(My apologies for breaking the 19 straight pages of "Whitehead sucks" sentiment on this thread).

Hey, guess what, everyone? The sun rose this morning!

In other words, I know what you mean. There's reason for optimism. Sullivan in particular has shown potential. Maybe if he doesn't (1) miss half the season next year because of injury, and (2) have to battle two other keepers in a 3-man rotation the rest of the time, he'll actually be able to improve.

On the flip side, has Maine actually developed a goaltender since Standbrook left? The kids coming in have pretty much been who they started out being. If that's the case, Maine's effed (well, they might be anyway, but....)

Re: Maine Off Season 2011

Does anyone know when the 2011/12 schedule is going to be released?

Usually a partial schedule comes out around the time of the banquet that is two and a half weeks away. We do know that the Bears host UNO at home, Clarkson at Portland and travel to the Ralph for a couple with Sioux.

What ABB said, what goalie has gotten better after Grant left?, the answer, none. Scott Darling, had talent, no direction. Last season, more of the same, talent is there, no guidance. I believe the physical talent is there with either guy, its the mental part thats lacking. Grant was the king of getting a guy ready

I think more or less you'll see a rotation for the first half of the season if not the whole season...Sullivan is not the answer over a 34 game slate...he is hot and cold...thats why a tandem would suit his style better....while Ouellette has alot of upside,he needs to grow into the Div.1 hockey and with that get his act together, staying focused each and every game he plays...so on paper the netminders look to be iffy at best...unless theirs a turn around in both then goaltending again will be one of Maine's weak points going into the season.

Yeah.......hopefully by 2020 most of us will still be alive and Maine will be a player in the college hockey world again.

Re: Maine Off Season 2011

As an optomist, perhaps the seemless glass and better lines of sight will help the last few Timmay apologists see how the teams do not seem to improve with his coaching? If this thought has been covered previously, I apologize, just searching for a silver lining.

I hate to mix politics on this board, especially after the earlier comments, but did any one think of hanging the mural from the Maine Department of Labor in the Alfond? It seemed like that was all the BDN covered for about 3 weeks. More people would see it in the Alford then in the Maine Dept. of Labor.:p

Kills me to see two basically sound goalies not getting the attention they need to become quality D1 goalies. Just kills me to see this waste. It's a travesty.

Re: Maine Off Season 2011

Looking at the front page of USCHO, at least one school's administration isn't willing to settle for mediocrity in their hockey program. TIMMAY, send them your resume, tell about all the final fours, and the Penrose, really sell it.

I'm planning to be alive..!

Related thought:I think Tim has dug himself so deep a hole that the only thing that could get him another extension is two consecutive FFs,maybe even a NC.

Barring that very unlikely scenario,I believe he'll be gone forever in a couple of years.I don't see merely making the NCAAs once or twice more as being good enough.I think his body of work won't be seen as redeemed by that, even if it happens.(And I'd bet the farm right now that it won't.)

Not surprised to see Roll's head roll.I know a couple of CU alums-pretty big donors,too-and they have been apoplectic for years now.Clarkson has a worse case of Maine-itis than Maine itself has had in the past few seasons.Since their appearance in the Rochester regional a few years back, the Knights have been even more irrelevant than have the Bears.(And that's saying something.)
