Maine @ New Hampshire

Re: Maine @ New Hampshire

I actually looked into this earlier in the year when wondering about it myself. AD Marty Scarano made the decision to get rid of it because it is "theoretically racist" after a complaint. I was in school there at the time and as I remember it, it was a complaint from an assistant coach on the US Women's hockey team who heard it during an exhibition game there.

According to this article, Hockey East had no place to say anything, it was solely a UNH decision, and a bad one in the opinion of many.

Interestingly I was at a game at Harvard on Friday when they played Quinnipiac and was very surprised that the bastion of liberalism was not in the loop that some folks at UNH had determined that this song was offensive! So okay at Harvard, but banned in Durham? Go figure!

My recollection is that the edict came from the HE Commish. Are there any schools in the league that play the song (I use the term loosely)?

At the Alfond Arena, the souvenir store takes up most of the front lobby and has several impressive displays. It's like shopping in a nice department store, similar to Dick's Sporting Goods.

Re: Maine @ New Hampshire

You're seeing a somewhat similar setup of what happened over at Merrimack (Da Costa, Cannata, overagers galore) and currently UML (Frolin, Hellebuyck, overagers). Both very very tough teams to play (Merrimack not so much lately).

Same approach utilized by the Q .... with 10 or 11 seniors ....at age 24.

Funny you should say that. Does it bother anyone else in UNH-land that the 1979 ECAC Tourney title is lumped in on UNH's "Hockey East Tourneys" banner?
I much prefer the way they have it displayed in the lower level of the Whitt (may be the hockey office, can't remember exact location), years with league logo next to it so that the ECAC title is distinct from the HE era.

Is UNH any more relevant? I think you would have a tough time making that case.
Maine: Struggling to make the league playoffs
UNH: #4 in the country

It was $954 for the fiscal year of 2013, and the students are fighting to have this reduced (see link to article):
http://www.tnhonline.com/student-senate-pushes-athletic-dept-to-lower-athletics-fee-1.2993757#.UTdOPTCR-Tk

As a current student at UNH the fee we or should I say Parents are paying is absurd. No student at UNH can get their money's worth even if they attended all the ticketed athletic events. The money from this fee is also going to fund the scholarship for these athletes. My family is paying not only for my education but others, if that makes any sense. Since UNH doesnt have the football programs like, Notre Dame, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, to actually fund their athletic department, UNH has to find other ways to fund their athletic department and the 13,000 students are the ones who have to pay for it.

Re: Maine @ New Hampshire

If memory serves me right Ive heard BB played at the Verizon in recent years when UNH took the ice.

Re: Maine @ New Hampshire

We won the league and HE tournament, you hired Timmay - We win...

Big deal, and you didn't win anything.....as usual. And we gained a really nice guy as head coach. So everybody wins....and gets a trophy!!

Re: Maine @ New Hampshire

I went to a footall game up at Maine a couple of years ago. Nice stadium and the big poster type pictures of former Maine players in the NFL is cool.

Re: Maine @ New Hampshire

Back to this weekend.

As a long-time UNH fan, it seems to me that the team loses an inordinate percentage of the "Senior Night" games that it plays. One would think that the team would be up for the game, and I haven't checked the stats, but it seems like we always put in a less-than-stellar performance and lose. It worries me that Saturday night is Senior Night.

Well, that's because Senior Night is usually in March. And we know what happens to UNH when the calendar turns.

Nice to see you're still posting catsfan. I can still remember you buying us all a round at the Tin Palace a few years back!

Re: Maine @ New Hampshire

Timmay said on the news last night that since Christmas, Maine has one more win than UNH, I find that hard to believe?

Yes, the good old days; the Tin Palace no longer exists, but if you go to Bellas next time BC is in Durham, I will buy your table another round.

Good to have committed fans around, even if they are always changing their name:)

Hope to see you (and your team) in Pittsburgh!
