Maine Hockey: Summer 2015 on the Stillwater

Re: Maine Hockey: Summer 2015 on the Stillwater

Holy crap, it's a graveyard in here. Everyone just waiting for the other shoe to drop tonight?

If earlier in the year after seeing the schedule, anyone had said Maine would be without a loss after their first three games, everyone would have been wondering what that guy was smoking. And yet, here they are. Enjoy it. This team is way ahead of what they were last season, and can only get better. Real good start to the season.

USCHO is a graveyard, it ain't what it used to be. Lots of other places to go now to talk hockey now.

I'm not getting to excited about this team until I see them score some goals. So far that ain't happening. Team D is way better but it helps when a goalie is filling up the net. Like the team so far, just need some offense

Yeah its a graveyard because the fan base has given up. It ain't worth the effort to post...care . A few of us still give a chit. I'm loving it. 3 ties... I predicted 0-3. On the way to another tie tonight.

Doing great defensively, that's for sure. Pulled goalie for the last three minutes and didn't give up a goal either.

Even before tonight's loss I wasn't too excited by this team. They appear to have decent goaltending, but as usual offense is suspect. I wouldn't call 0-0-3 a "real good start".

Re: Maine Hockey: Summer 2015 on the Stillwater

Maine has had the 'tending so far this year, but couldn't score in a whorehouse.

(If it ain't one thing, it's the other... Same old, over the past 10 years or so.)

Still, I could see this team flirting with a berth, considering the crazy parity in college hockey right now. They look better than 0-3 Minnesota so far!

Kind of sucks when one of your former recruits scores the game winner against you. Maine needs some scorers, until then, it's going to be a tough season. If you think of last year's games against Union, this weekend was good but 1 point out of a weekend still sucks.

Re: Maine Hockey: Summer 2015 on the Stillwater

Ya can't win if ya can't score. How many years has it been since we've had some potent offense? Nyquist years? Zeebus.

Re: Maine Hockey: Summer 2015 on the Stillwater

Devon Shore likes Texas. He scored his first career hat trick last night for the Stars. Congratulations!

Re: Maine Hockey: Summer 2015 on the Stillwater

Michigan State swept by Denver and North Dakota tied Bemidji........those ties last weekend aren't quite as impressive as they were at the time.

No doubt that the D and goaltending have improved though. Maine is still a couple of years away from contending for top 4 status.

As for North Dakota... the goalie they started in the Icebreaker went out at the end of the 2nd with an injury. Because our top-notch freshman recruit is still out for a couple more weeks, that meant our goalie for the 3rd was a guy who had never played a game and is a walk-on.

Saturday night, our goaltending tandem consisted of two walk-ons, one of which was just picked up in an on-campus tryout a couple weeks ago.

With the teams they played, and compared to the past few seasons, yes it was.

I agree. But more importantly at least there's some reason for optimism this season. Goaltending and D much improved. Hopefully the scoring will follow.

6 goals in 3 games so far this season. Good for Devon. I think it's fair to say that we all hope he plays in the NHL asap. It's good for Maine Hockey. In retrospect, Shore did not exactly have a Black Bear tattooed on his arse last year playing for Maine. IMHO, he did not play and act as is expected of a captain. Eyes on the NHL.

Ditto for Hutton. Eyes on the NHL... which in fairness is these guys' ultimate goal. One of the very difficult things for programs and coaches to deal with in college hockey.

Yeah its a graveyard because the fan base has given up....

Boo Hiss ... Completely disagree. Not a bad start in the first four games (despite no W's) against:

Michigan State
North Dakota
Union
Union

There's probably not a harder first four games in any D1 program this season. Now The Q and the New Brunswick exhibition this week. Time for some W's.

FWIW, The Q is 3-0. Wins against Holy Cross, Holy Cross and Arizona State...big woop.

And not for nothin' but can someone please start a new thread with an appropriate title.... It's not getting above 45F here today in KPort.

I didn't say it was a bad start. I'm pretty happy with what I've seen so far. But the fan base has dwindled significantly esp on this board. Alfond doesn't sell out, you don't see nearly as many Maine fans at road games etc. So yes a lot of people have lost interest. You haven't been around(on USCHO) long enough to remember what it was like 8-10 yrs ago.

No fan base is the same on USCHO 8 to 10 years ago. Many more options
