Re: Maine Hockey: Summer 2015 on the Stillwater

If it's not the worst, it's right up there in top 3. Could possibly use the excuse they were tired. Three games in four days. I'm trying to give them benefit of doubt.

Tired? Come on. They were exposed for what they are. And I'm not dissing the team, but they have NO scorers and when they meet a team like the Q then they're gonna get blistered. Morris sucked D had some let downs..... 4-0 . McGovern will keep them in some games but unless they come up with some scoring.... optimism waning.....

TIMMAY spent 12 seasons trashing the program....surely, we can give Red at least 4 before we throw him under the bus, no?

I feel the same way. Did they go straight from Union to Quinnipiac or come back first? Either way less than ideal. I'm sure others will disagree, but in my opinion Maine has still had a good start to the season. It would be nice to have a win or two but to only lose two games against the opposition they have faced shows Maine is on the right track. Maine really needs to win the tourney in NJ. There is no reason they should be losing to those teams.

Get outshot 19-4 in the first or whatever the hell it was has nothing to do with whatever Tim Whitehead was up to in 2006. Gimme a break.

Its not being winless its how bad they look doing it. The shot differential is embarrassing so I have to imagine the possession numbers are equally awful.

There is a reason they were picked near the bottom of Hockey East. Talent is that reason. But they didn't show last night that's on Red.

The entire university from the presidents of the past on down should shoulder the blame for this program's demise. There has been no investment in this program....it is run on a shoestring compared to other peer programs and it shows. Red is doing the best he can with what he has. The only solution is for UM to redo its entire athletic dept. and drop football and baseball so it can fund hockey the way that it should be.

I cant count how many times they made the lazy pass, the pass that was unsafe and ended up just giving possession of the puck away. Chit, you have to work hard to get possession, fcs don't squander it by giving it right back. Man, that drives me nutz. You bet Walshy would have been all over that guy on the bench for doing something dumb like that. Its those little things along with a never ending work ethic that helps wins hockey games. Not to mention a little talent sprinkled in here and there, which we seem to have little of.

Was the program funded more under Shawn Walsh? Or are they just falling behind the rest of college hockey as funding has increased at other schools and Maine has not?

More big money donations under Walshy. Many of the whales don't give a penny to the program anymore.

OK, sure. But why aren't they at the least, fundamentally sound? Make the smart plays, be in the right position, put the puck into safe places, play disciplined and not take stupid penalties? If red's the coach he's supposed to be, even if the team is lacking in talent and skill, shouldn't they at least be strong in the basic fundamentals of the game?

It's going on three years now, and they don't seem to be any better in that department than they were under TIMMAY. Worse in some, faceoffs for an example.

Yup. They have made no progress since Timmay left. If they were heading in the right direction, 3 years should be enough to show some forward progress.

Re: Maine Hockey: Summer 2015 on the Stillwater

In an effort to be even handed here, Im willing to give the team a bye for last night. Errors I saw out there were errors from fatigue. Not taking the extra step to make the right pass or right clearing, lost faceoffs, etc. Two road games at Union 8 hours from home on Friday and Saturday, the long ride home, practice presumeably Monday and another 8 hour ride to the Q has got take its toll. Not to mention you are not playing in front of your stud goalie....got to be tiring and deflating.

Last time, though. No more byes.

They practiced at Yale on Monday so I believe they went from Union down to Connecticut. But using the whole 3 games in 5 nights thing is just an excuse.

Agree with this. I want to see how Maine goes against some weaker teams before I throw in the towel. Over half of the roster are Timmy guys so it's a bit unfair to judge Red on how he does with those guys.

So, John Tortorella back in the NHL, named Blue Jackets coach.
