Re: Maine Hockey: Summer 2015 on the Stillwater

PC gets lots of respect even though Gillies is gone? Lowell will be up there, BC, BU and then a bunch of teams. I see Maine in 8th or 9th. Goalies will be better, everything else who knows. I didn't see the team buying into Reds systems last year so I'll wait and see if they do this year. Should be interesting to see if all the big guys can skate, not just fast but whether or not they have a good first step or are they always playing catch up?

Providence is the defending national champions. Enough said.

I can see Maine in 5th or 6th if they buy into the system. This is an important year for Red and Co. Another losing season and diehards/season ticket holders are just going to get more restless and impatient. JMO.

Optimistic about Maine last year. Given that they made 0 progress and lost Shore and Hutton, I see no reason to expect anything but a bottom 4 finish.

I got Harvard in the Frozen Four. Might be the best team in New England.

I don't think Maine was as bad as their record indicated. They shot themselves in the foot with how the Alaska trip was planned then blew a bunch of close games. The one encouraging thing for me was that the team played hard for the most part and never got blown out. I thought the freshmen overall played well too(although Pecararo was obviously a huge disappointment).

One encouraging thing is that the rest of hockey east isn't that great either. I think Maine finishes somewhere between sixth and tenth.

There isn't that one team that is going to dominate and run away with it. Maine tends to play up to the Boston schools and other contenders, so if they can figure out how to get two points in some of those games, they'll shock some people.

Somewhere between 10th and 12th. And boring.

Maine will suck again this year. Why won't they? No matter how much any team buys into a system, you still need good players and we are not getting them. Their new recruits are not eye popping, their goaltending remains mediocre, and they lost their two best players. They will finish 10-12th, agreed.

Go back and look at the rosters between '99 and '04. They weren't stacked with blue chip recruits and first round NHL picks. I think a lot of people forget that what originally made Maine successful was having a tough, athletic, deep team. I have no idea what the wins and losses will be this year but there is no doubt in my mind that Maine is heading in the right direction.

When you hit the bottom there is only one direction to go Drew.

If Red can get these guys to buy in, they'll keep moving in the right direction. Not too many of Maine's losses were blowouts last year...they were in a lot of those games. Just need to learn how to finish the job in the 3rd period.

Love your optimism but, ...Niko Dimitrackos, Peter Metcalf, Mike Morrison, Frank Doyle, Alfie Michaud, Martin Kariya, Steve Kariya, Colin Shields. Preston Ryan, Todd Jackson, Cory LaRose, Derek Damon..... all were very good players, the likes of which, we just don't have now.

No need to be so negative. Although it's true Damon wasn't as swift on his skates as the fastest skaters, he had great toughness and grit and great hands. When he was a redshirt people were saying he had the best hands on the team.

I agree that Derek is in a different and better class the most anyone on the current team, he had good hands, but come on, he played with Leveille. (I am not looking up who the players were when he was a redshirt)
Derek had a great, accurate shot and passed way the f too hard for most of his teammates to be able to play the puck.... players (like levs and gretzky who DO have great hands know exactly how hard NOT to pass to a guy like Bellamy if they want the recipient to be able to handle the pass).
Derek also did very well in the AHL. Something that not many of the recent Maine forwards have been able to accomplish. WHo do you guys see doing well in the A from the current crop of forwards?

There sure to f is a good reason to be so negative when someone trys to put him in the same group as those other players. Damon was a very average player, nothing more
