Maine Hockey: Summer 2015 on the Stillwater

Re: Maine Hockey: Summer 2015 on the Stillwater

It doesn't matter if they did eliminate football. That money wouldn't go to the hockey program. The inept administration would find a way to waste it somewhere else. I still say close Machias, Presque Isle, Augusta and Farmington. Sell off all the buildings and land and you would have millions in surplus revenue. Do a revamp at the Orono campus, increase the enrollment to 20K and boom problems solved. New sports facilities, new dorms, new classroom buildings. The potential is there to make Orono a premier school in the Northeast. They need the foresight and balls to do it. Not to mention the jobs it would create with the massive construction. With the expansion you could offer transfers to all the displaced employees from the closed campuses.

Who is looking to buy that many buildings in Machias, Presque Isle, Augusta or Farmington?

While you're at it, why not sell off Orono and relocate everything in Portland?

Agreed.

Machias and Farmington would be attractive campuses for private education investments. Augusta could become state office buildings. Presque Isle......umm......bring in the demolition crews?

Sorry.....that ship has sailed. I actually think that the Augusta or Waterville areas would have been the best choice for the flagship location. Can you imagine if UM had been located on Mayflower Hill? The Hinkley School would have been another decent location.

Re: Maine Hockey: Summer 2015 on the Stillwater

I agree whatever red is teaching doesn't seem to be getting thru or the guys can't execute it or its just plain wrong?

Yeah, there's something going on there.

Corkum blew his shot by acting like the job was already his. Maybe he'd been told by the previous admin, or some reason he thought it was his.

Re: Maine Hockey: Summer 2015 on the Stillwater

Maine is now 5-1-1 at home with a 3-1 win over Colgate. McGovern gets his first career win.

Pretty sure that that the Hinkley School is haunted...

Re: Maine Hockey: Summer 2015 on the Stillwater

Clearly you've somehow missed out on the *delightful* experience that is Bridgeport CT.

... and FWIW, Salisbury MA makes their cross-border neighbors in Seabrook NH look like Beverly Hills 90210 by comparison. :) Definitely calls into question the impact of the nuclear plant ... or just plain ol' incest? Close call ...

OK, I did neglect to mention Bridgeport, which is truly a strong contender for AOTNE... But I beg to differ re: Salisbury. You have to drive over the border there to get a tat, cheap booze, cut-rate smokes, or to even see a donkey-show! Much classier than Seabrook.

No question, Seabrook is a triple threat on the Vice Olympics (you left out the shabby old greyhound complex) ... but after many decades of missing out on literally the most obvious retail opportunity imaginable since the early days of Kittery, they've also just finally upgraded and added huge big box retail developments at the expanded Exit One interchange. The daily gross revenues generated there probably match the annual GDP of the entire town of Salisbury. When you add in the whiff (stench?) of the Appalachia-style rural poverty seen in many parts of Salisbury, I think you'll find that things have changed. This isn't your Dad's Seabrook* any more.

*well, to be fair it pretty much still is, but like in vegas, they can mask the stench with a family friendly façade these days (see 2 story glass encased Bob's Furniture  ), but look hard enough and the old *attractions* are all still there. :)

Re: Maine Hockey: Summer 2015 on the Stillwater

A win is better than a loss and it was out of conference so we have that going for us :) Both teams are pretty weak. PPs were terrible or maybe the PKs were just awesome. Neither team generated a SOG on several PPs. Rob made a kick save off a rebound in 3rd that was probably a game winning save. Made the first stop, rebound into traffic, Gate player knocked toward his left, he flashed the skate out and kicked toward the corner, Maine cleared it. Swaves goal was a nice pick pocket on a D man, went right in and beat the goalie to the post.

Re: Maine Hockey: Summer 2015 on the Stillwater

Wait, you can see a donkey show in Seabrook? Now where'd I leave my keys?

Re: Maine Hockey: Summer 2015 on the Stillwater

Colgate 2 for 3 on the PP. Maine 0 for 5. :( This team ranks as one of the worst ever.

No doubt, glad I didn't drive up. The freshman class is just as bad as the last couple classes. Red has no confidence in them. He keeps sitting guys, no continuity, no real speed, goaltending is suspect. Red isn't getting his contract renewal at this pace.

Thats a scary thought that they(UMaine)would consider extending Gendron at this point...what has he accomplished to warrant such a idea..? I know that the Extension talk is just that...but what message would that send..? This is a mess that has no solutions on the horizon. My question is: If they have another disaster of a season for 2016-17 does that mean this Program is DONE..? Bottom feeder and no longer a team to play on your schedule in only to fill in opening dates and for them to be a travel team that other teams use to feast on.
