Choke. Are you sure Timmay wasn't on the bench this weekend?

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

It's like Maine was a totally different team on the ice both nights during those last 2 minutes. Last night I can somewhat understand because of the road game losing skid.......tonight I just don't get. Totally bizzare.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

I've seen Maine collapse like this plenty of times....what really sucks is I thought those days were behind them. That game will keep them out of the NCAAs I bet

At the beginning of the season no one thought this team was headed to the NCAAs, the fact that Maine is still in it is amazing. ND dominated Maine for the 1st 2 periods tonight, we got no room until the 5 on 3. I thought Maine turned the tide in the 3rd only to choke once they pulled the goalie. How do you kill all those penalties and then just run around when its 6 on 5?

Bad habits die hard.

2 important points down the drain in Hockey East play and a much needed win washed down also...this one hurts big time...hopefully they get it out of their system quickly...feel the sting and really not like it at all...and turn their attention to Merrimack @ Home and ripped them...HARD.

I watched the game, and my heart went out to all you Maine fans. That was hard to swallow.

Young team, on the road, and the pressure just got to them. It's to be expected, and nothing we haven't seen in years past under you know who, but you would like to think that Red's got that out of their heads by now. But apparently not.

So yeah, just another learning experience in a season that we all knew was gonna be a learning experience. It's a credit to them and the coaching staff that we are so disappointed by this loss, because they've built this team up into a pretty strong team a lot quicker than any of us expected, and now we're expecting to win these games. So yeah, it hurts, and we wish they'd have won it. Probably should have won it. But take a step back, look at the bigger picture, and let it go. You don't have to be satisfied with losing the game, with just making the effort, but remember where they've come from, and just move on. Stay positive, and keep working.

Followed the game on my twitter feed instead of going out to watch (No cable). I saw my feed 2 minutes before the end of regulation, went to get a glass of water, refreshed my feed and found out they lost. Almost considered using my kitchen wall for knife throwing practice.

For the record. Damon was the one who scored the goal, Mike Hamilton on the other side of the crease and not in the play at all was called for being in the crease. Same thing happened in National Championship game in '99 when Jason Vitorino was skating on the outer edge of the blue paint when Kerluke beat Conklin and goal was disallowed. Sine Gustafson scored in OT we tend to forget that one.

Rule has been changed over the years and still want a final explanation, but regardless Maine was the beneficiary of a good break and an Irishman got the game winner and yes Ouellette was a workhorse.

It's all coming back to me now, sorta... I just remember that Derek was involved.

Yup, and I would've been happy with 2 points at South Bend if you'd offered me them on Thursday.

Maine is 16th in the PW as we speak; did any of us expect that on February 8th 2014, way back in September?

I'm good with this season so far... This team is fun to watch, when they aren't playing scared.

(They'll get over that; it was Timmy's hallmark.)

Move on.... nothing to see here ;) Just a simple learning experience Better to have it now than in the playoffs. Keep the perspective , we were fingernails away from sweeping the golden domers in their own barn. I saw a lot of things out of these guys I really liked this weekend.... huge hearts for one thing ....Red has a teaching opportunity out of this one.

I think all of us would have been satisfied with a split at ND before the weekend started. Once you see the chance for a sweep and let it slip away its harder to be happy about it. I think you saw how much more talent ND has compared to Maine. Maine had the great equalizer,Marty, but Maines D was shown up all weekend. Need more strength and more speed on the blue line. Got to love Cam Brown, that kid has a compete factor of 11. Marty had a great 2nd night of the weekend. Need to take care of business at home next weekend and beyond.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

Overall a split on the road against the #18 team in the country is still considered a success.

What I thought was interesting was how much Maine dropped back into a trap. Much different than what I saw on Friday night. It seemed to work well as Maine wasn't giving up many great opportunities in the middle to late parts of the game. However, it lead to a lot of penalties of the hooking and obstruction style.

I think not having Schurhamer was a difference. He's been fantastic as a rookie defensemen. I saw he got injured Friday. Anyone know if his injury is serious?

Hoping Maine can take care of Merrimack at home to help give a strong hold on home ice in the hockey east playoffs.

I'm very happy with a split as well. Fortunately for me I wasn't able to see any of the game last night.

One thing no one mentioned is how much they missed Higgins at the end of the game. He is usually out there and undoubtedly would have helped a lot both nights at the end.

There is a silver lining in last nights game; Notre Dame flys east to play Providence twice next weekend and if they could do some damage against Providence it would help Maine out a lot. Looking at the standings right now I think Maine finishes somewhere between second and fourth. Its hard for me to see UNH or Northeastern finishing ahead of them, stranger things have happened though.

Yea...the ND vs PC series is huge for the Friars in relation to Maine.

Northeastern has a pretty easy schedule the rest of the year with @UMass, two at home vs Maine and H&H with BU. The series between Maine and NU will likely decide who finishes higher....

Pretty much. I thought they played one of their best games last night for 58 minutes. I was beside myself last night, but after taking a breath this loss wasn't the disaster it could've been. They still control their own destiny. They are one, probably 2 spots out of the NCAA's with the auto bids in play, which I didn't think they had a shot at. They'll probably end up 3rd or 4th in HE, they broke the road L streak and Marty showed up on a Sat. So all in all I am not displeased with the weekend. As much as watching that 2 minute disaster last night s uc ked, hopefully a lesson will be learned and Red takes this teaching moment and that won't happen come March. Way ahead of schedule and expectations boys. Just remind yourselves where this team was last year in mid Feb. At least we all have something to cheer....and hope for this season.
