Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

I know it's in the past, but I can't help but imagine what things might have been like the year we had Flynn, Abbott and Nyquist together combined with the work ethic of this year's team.

Speaking of whom, it will be a while before I forgive Merrimack for the way they played the 2012 playoff series. Their strategy was very clearly to bully our top players to take matching penalties or even send them out with injuries. Also the zebras for this gem http://youtu.be/SmIVPFQ-WS8

Big weekend coming up. Hate to say, it but anything less than 4 points would be a disappointment. Merrimack is going to ....well be Merrimack!

This year's team has so much heart, and Saturday's collapse in the final minutes will only help them as their Maine careers continue.

And/or if Marty played the way he has this year. I don't think that team had poor work ethic, they just had poor defense. House was a worker too.

Yeah, maybe lacking "work ethic" was not the best way to describe them, but I don't think they were pushed in the right way to meet their potential. Certainly it helps to have phenomenal goaltending now too, and having two coaches that speak fluent french and can give goaltending encouragement in either language probably doesn't hurt either!

Bingo! Besides the coach, the biggest difference between that team and this year's team is the goaltending. If you put this year's Marty on that year's team, they make the NCAAs no questions asked, defensive breakdowns and all. Having a goalie back there that can bail you out makes all the difference in a teams confidence and psychology. You just have to go no further than a single game at the end of the season to highlight that point. It was a microcosm of the entire season.

haha, somehow I weight the importance of encouraging words spoken in the french as microscopic in evaluating Marty's development and emergence :p

Man oh man, the referees in that one put me in mind of a steaming pile of Rottweiler doggy-doo... The zebras played into MC's hand as though they were getting cash handed-over to them directly from the Merrimack bench between whistles.

(Remember how Abbott was pulled-down by his skates three times in a row on a face-off, and got an embellishment minor..? Quite possibly the worst call I've ever seen, and that's really saying something.)

Oops, sorry, I hadn't looked at your link yet, but thanks for posting, just to give the visuals re: how awful college refs can be.

I would think that you'll see at least one of the two games this weekend with a Parade to the box...and of course if that happens Friday...then Saturday will be more of the same as the Officials will look to take charge...rough series this weekend to be expected. Maine will need to bury their chances when they get them and put MC in the hole from the get-go.

I heard a rumor that MCs bus broke down and they had a hard time getting to Orono yesterday, wonder when they got here? or if they got here?

Not very good planning on their part if they left yesterday. Would think they would have gone up Wednesday night, the storm wasn't exactly a surprise.

Did anyone ever answer why Sully wasn't dressed last weekend??

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

How come there's such low attendance at the game including students?

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

Well, Maine escaped.

Not sure what Shore was doing checking a guy from behind after a whistle with a minute left. Didn't get a close look at it as it was behind the play, but why risk a penalty? Then O'Connor's hand pass in the offensive zone to allow MC an offensive faceoff with extra attacker . . . I wouldn't say Maine has this final-minute thing down. But they got a few clears, so progress :)

2 points down, 2 to go.

Not a pretty win, but 2 points is 2 points at this point. :)

$50 tickets, look at how many people are in the less expensive seats. Notice I didn't use the word cheap.

$50 tickets to see Maine play Merrimack = complete joke.

I would expect the new AD to examine the pricing structure of hockey tickets in the off-season.
