Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

Not a pretty win, but 2 points is 2 points at this point. :)

1. Black Bears won. Not impressively. Take the 2 points. Move on.
2. They played down to their competition for pretty much the first time at home this year. Red ain't gonna tolerate that very long.
3. Tomorrow night will be tell-tale. They need to dismantle a clearly inferior Merrimack team. Northeastern and Providence are going to be way more difficult, especially fighting for the last few regular season points.

UMass and Notre Dame could really do Maine a big favor tomorrow night.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

$50 tickets to see Maine play Merrimack = complete joke.

I would expect the new AD to examine the pricing structure of hockey tickets in the off-season.
$50 to see Maine play the 84 Oilers would be a joke. I gave up my tickets last year which were in a $50 seat section and although they were great seats it's a joke they charge $50. That being said I feel good about the program going forward and will probably get season tickets next year, but they won't be in the $50 sections.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

$50 tickets, look at how many people are in the less expensive seats. Notice I didn't use the word cheap.

That's just nuts.

Look for UMass to do UMaine (and UNH) a huge favor tomorrow against Northeastern. :)

Holy h e double hockey sticks. No wonder I saw some empty seats on TV. Priced good fans out of the arena. Kinda hard to say we got the best fans in the world, the atmosphere is the best, yadda yadda... and then ask if you have a family of four to fork over $200 dollars before buying and food and merchandise.

Something reasonable evidently has to happen. Red said he wants Alfond packed every night. Well, $50 seats isn't a way to go about it for Mainuhs. Actually I am not sure that flies anywhere in college hockey???

Holy o h e double hockey sticks! Is this athletic department stupid.

Now onto Maine hockey. Good two points tonight. And I will say this, Lomberg played his heart out. Best game that I have seen for him. Scored well, and more than that he ran everything he could. Ran that guy hard into his own bench and punished him. He had a shift where I saw him run three guys. Reminds me of a smll time Latendresse. That Lomberg keeps this up he might find himself a c on his jersey. Absolutely loved his spirit tonight. Also loved how Cam Brown played. Another one with spirit. As a Mainuh I say great job Lomberg and Brown. Kick it tomorrow and help carry Maine to the post season! Where Maine belongs!

:D Very happy with Lomberg's play tonight.

He/she really ought to...$50 for any RS college game is not going to boost attendance at the Alfond. Maine would be much better-off keeping tickets reasonably priced, and attracting more fans as a result.

(Hell, that's even more than what the NCAA asks for a single Regional game, FCS.... The Maine administration doesn't have a clue right now.)

Good win for Maine tonight; and any win right now is good... Better get 4 points vs. MC when they can, worry about PC later.

I'm pretty sure they were charging $50 to see Bentley and AIC as well. I think they should charge $25 for the good seats, $18 for the okay seats, and $12 for obstructed view or standing room. They could increase this a little bit against UNH, BU, or BC. Last night was probably the 20th time I've seen a game on tv where at least half the good seats were empty and it's embarrassing.

obviously the new AD and the new hockey coach can't be blamed for the current ticket prices as they were set by the previous coach/AD

will be interesting to see if any changes are made for next season. honestly, 25 would be great for fans but it would probably cut into the university's bottom line. 30 or 35 probably isn't that unreasonable for the lower bowl seats, and i'd bet they would sell like hotcakes if the team was playing well (that's a a 30-40% price cut).

a 30/35, 18, 15 system would probably be best for both sides

Here's hoping! Paid $50.00 for my seat v UNH; great seat up behind the penalty box..the season tix holder I sat next to said it was a seat typically used by pro scouts. Enjoyed my first trip to the Alfond great fan energy!

If the University was concerned with their bottom line, perhaps they should focus on developing a Men's Basketball team that can compete every year for conference championships and an automatic ticket to March Madness. If the Basketball team could win, more fans would come and watch, and that would pick up some of the difference with increased ticket sales and they wouldn't have to gouge and extort loyal Maine Hockey fans to generate revenue.

$50 ticket prices for hockey are unreasonable for our economically depressed area if they expect tofill all of the seats for every game.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

I just finished watching that USA/Russia Olympic hockey game. It went to a shoot out and took forever to decide it. TJ Oshie kept answering and finally Quick made a good save and Oshie buried it for team USA. Kovalchuk was fantastic as well, but Oshie went to the factory and one better.

Not a huge fan of shootouts deciding games. But that was as good of a shootout as I've ever seen. If anybody missed it try to watch highlights or the replay. It was amazing.

Exactly where my season tix used to be before I moved south. Directly up and besides the steps going up from the box, right at the handrail and on center ice. Saw many great Maine teams from that spot over the years. I wouldn't pay 50 bucks for them though, not even to see Paul Kariya play.... that's just too much. But if its your first time at the Fond, its probably worth it.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

Is there any other program in college hockey charging $50 for a seat?

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

Nice play by Blaine Byron to break up a MC 2 on 1 late in the third.

$50 college HOCKEY seats are unreasonable in new york city, let alone downeast maine! I pay less to go see the bruins play the rangers let alone maine vs AIC. $50 dollars for those tickets is beyond outrageous it's a slap in the face to maine people, wether your from Kennebunkport, cape elizabeth etc.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

Went to the Alfond last night for the game, first time in 4 years. I was not in the $50 seats if anyone is wondering. What happened to the bake potato self serve bar? Red hot dogs? One thing I really noticed was that everything was sponsored . Even Icings were sponsored! Face offs, line-up, you name it it had a sponsor. Are things that bad financially at UMaine? I noticed the band numerous times getting ready to play and then being cut off by 2 mins of sponsor announcements. It became funny at how much it was. Took away from band playing time, which sucks because I love listening to them play. Hope Maine can get 2 more points tonight! I'm interested in hearing people's thoughts on the sponsor thing.

The athletic Dept is trying to make a buck anyway it can. Seems to me selling seats for 23 dollars is alot better than empty seats at billions of nothing

I'm looking for Maine to play better from the start tonight but expect MC to muck it up and make it tough

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

Different goalie in tonight for Merrimack. They rotate.

Gendron mentioned a couple things pregame that stood out to me. First he mentioned that while some of his players played very physical, some did not. And that it was addressed earlier today. Second, Gendron mentioned he had to take a time out to give his guys a breather. He went on to say that Maine had two opportunities to get it in deep so the line change could occur but both times it didn't happen. He said that was also addressed earlier today.

I'm guessing this means Maine will play more physical and be better at getting pucks deep.

I thought Antoine was either sick or hurt last night, he didn't look good at all. No fight
