Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

I would be interested in knowing what the officials saw in re-play that over turned the 2nd goal. That looked like a good goal to me. Why would Maine call a time out immediately after Notre Dame's with 1:30 left in the game? Maine could have used that time out after ND's 2nd goal if there was not the controversy.

Kicked in from what others have said, I'll watch it on DVR tomorrow

It was a weird ending to say the least. But I'm happy as heck that Maine won the game and got the monkey off their back (although he may still be stuck on the bottom of their skates after that one). It was shades of 2002 in Minnesota.......like everyone was afraid to touch the puck or an opposing player.....and had bricks tied to their skates.

Sportmanlike. Perhaps Jackson calls the timeout to see what Maine is putting on the ice. Perhaps Maine calls a timeout to change what they had on the ice and got the guys a rest for who they needed. As it turned out, Jackson got the better of it because they scored.

IMO opinion, tonight I kept getting surprised and happy with some of the lower end of the line up tonight. For example, Morgan had a great game. Campbell played very well. Merchant was a mixed bag where he didn't play tough but he had a few flashy skilled attempts. Jon Swavely had a couple of cerebral smart plays that made a difference.

Then, our top guys seemingly went more or less unnoticed. I suppose on the road they match lines with shut down D pairing and line. But at some point you have to question the heart of the top line on the road. I'd like to see some promise tomorrow out of the Shore line. Win another and you may be looking at the playoffs!

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

Is your sig any hint???

Hey, maybe with the way the coaches have good things to say about each other maybe they work out some non-conference series. That would be great!

Maine is #15, dare to dream. Would be great to see that series and it has been hinted at by sources in New Haven. We have to stop playing HC and SHU, killing our PWR.

If you don't mind my posting here ... thank you for beating Notre Dame. I love the fact that if the rules hadn't changed (for them), they wouldn't be in the HE playoffs. Never wanted them in HE, and while I know it's been just one year, I'm loving this.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

Maine was lucky to pull out a road win against the second worst team in HE.

Here's hoping for a repeat tomorrow.

:D It is funny though when I hear dare to dream from a Yale fan. How the world turns. Seems like yesterday when I watched the Ingraham/Montgomery/Kariya line. ;)

Well, I date my self a little. I am not as good as I once was, but just once I am as good as I'll ever be.

Yeah this is me very happy with a road win! Go Maine! :D

You're welcome, Monty. In fact, you are so welcome we will sign up to do it tomorrow as well. :D For this, we ask you lay down at the Fleete centre. Deal? :D

+1. Suck it Notre Dame. Go back to the CCHA.

The guys on TV said it was players in the crease

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

Having said all of that you tell me how that play deserves a goal yet Damon's in the Fleet center against Denver didn't? I guess rules might be different, and oh well...

But you also tell me how Lumberg plays the puck and gets man handled and pinned, then as he gets up takes a punch while the puck is right there. Very difficult for a overseeing official to not send a message to these guys and ask how the hell two off them got that call wrong. I thought that was the idea of two officials on the ice. Even the biased color guy on NBCS was admitting and chuckling on that one.

I don't care, at the end of the day Oullette won that game and teams are built from the goaltender out. So be it, a win is a win! And I am very happy with it! :D

Good call; that no-goal reminded me of how Derek had his toe in the crease vs. Denver, which negated a Maine tally in that NC game.

(I thought that the NCAA had amended the rule to allow the goal if the player(s) in question had not actually interfered with the goalie..?)

Whatever, it was a much-needed win for Maine, and they did fly-around tonight.... HUGE improvement in their style of play over Tim's teams, and really fun to watch.

I thought ND looked like the better team after the 1st, not sure how their record in HE is so bad. Most of their shots were from above the dots but Marty gave up no rebounds until the end. I agree with Blacki that Maines 4th line stood out, they seemed to be able to control the puck in corners. Can Brown was all over the place. I wonder if the layoff hurt 1st line?. Needed a win, better get some production from top line or its going to be a long night

Because Maine had iced the puck previously and couldn't get those guys off the ice so the second TO was to rest them some more and to get a look at what ND was sending out there.... duh

I think the ruling is that you can be in the crease so long as you don't interfere in any way with the goalies ability to make a save (makes sense).... and that includes obstructing his view . It's okay so long as outside the crease. A little different than the pros. I didn't see if there was a kick, but it looked like a good call to me.

Down to 9 wins now :)

I can't feel sorry for ND. They had the entire game to play snarly like they did in the last 2 minutes.... where were they then?

For the record. Damon was the one who scored the goal, Mike Hamilton on the other side of the crease and not in the play at all was called for being in the crease. Same thing happened in National Championship game in '99 when Jason Vitorino was skating on the outer edge of the blue paint when Kerluke beat Conklin and goal was disallowed. Sine Gustafson scored in OT we tend to forget that one.

Rule has been changed over the years and still want a final explanation, but regardless Maine was the beneficiary of a good break and an Irishman got the game winner and yes Ouellette was a workhorse.

After last night's games, Maine moved into a tie with Minnesota Duluth and Vermont for 13th in the Pairwise.

I agree. I thought ND dominated the 2nd and 3rd periods. Ouellette won the game for Maine. He was outstanding.
