Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

Oh I don't know. I bet that UML fans would make the short trip to Portland, UNH fans, BC, BU, Northeastern, Harvard, and many others would make the short trip. They have to try something new.

I agree that Boston-area fans would make the easy trip up if they had a dog in the hunt. (And siting those teams there would be key... I usually allow 90 minutes to get to and fro from Beantown, at off-times.)

The CCCC isn't all that, but Portland is a very fun small city... If the Regional was populated with the right teams, I could easily see it being sold-out, and the fans having a great time in the Old Port, win or lose.

If Maine loses Friday they get swept, if they win Friday its a split

It should be a great series, considering Notre Dame got swept last weekend by UNH on the road and the week before split a series at home against a tough Northeastern team, and of course Maine is team that comes ready to play and doesn't quit. Given the fact that Maine doesn't quit and competes every shift, I don't think that having a bad night tonight necessarily means Saturday will be a disappointment as well because if anything they'll stay determined to win the battles and create the puck luck they need to win.

Anyone (one of the lurkers?) crazy enough / retired enough to be heading out to South Bend? I have to work tomorrow, so I won't be getting there until gametime, but I could go for a pint or two before Saturday.

No specific predictions. I have a good feeling about streaks, and ends of streaks. Knock on wood.

I'm going Friday. I have an extra ticket for Friday if anyone is interested.

Do ND fans (what there are of them) even care anymore? Where's the season thread for the Domers? On like pg 5? Now that they've joined HE and are getting their arses handed to them in conference seems like their fanbase has quit. Wonder if Jeff J will have a flashback to 1993 when he see's Red on the bench. LOL

The team seems to give up a few softies on the second night on the road. I think they have a shot tonight, lets hope they are prepared and rested up after 2 weeks off. Really need at least 2 points this weekend

Well this is great. To get to watch Maine on TV both nights against Notre Dame is super cool. Even if they lose, hope Maine just never quits and forces Notre Dame to play the best games they can to have to beat Maine. I am, however, expecting at least one win. I think based on what I've seen the Maine speed will be too much for Notre Dame. I think if Maine can penetrate inside the slot they'll get at least one W. I am hoping the speed and discipline is there for Maine so they can capitalize on the power play. Hopefully Notre Dame doesn't counter too much.

Boys look like they want this one. Week off works wonders.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

That was a heavy shift by Maine. Started by some outstanding checking/board work by Morgan. Maine speed hat Notre Dame pinned in their end for a very long stretch.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

Maine had some momentum early. Eroded by some ill timed penalties late in the period. Oullette made some huge saves. One on a redirect I am not sure how he made that save??? Also, Anthoine with a huge back-check where an ND forward is staring at a wide open net with the puck on his tape, Anthoine blocks it. On the flip side Maine had a couple posts.

Overall that period was as close to being 3-3 as you can get and still it wound up being 1-0 Maine. So naturally, we will take it. :D

Also, it is nice to see college hockey in HD that has decent camera work to where it looks NHL'ish on my 57 inch tv! :D

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

Huge glove save by Oullette after a bad Rutt turnover. Other than that good back and forth action with Maine owning the time of advantage.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

Official swallowing the whistle... Lomberg mugged down and then punched for his efforts. :) Notre Dame a bigger mugging type crew getting the home cooking it seems.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

1-0 at the end of two. Notre Dame carried the play the second half of that period. Also, Notre Dame playing outstanding defense blocking so many shots and passes. Oullete making some outstanding saves. I didn't like how they panned in on the Maine bench and the top line forwards weren't breathing hard after they took a shift. Well maybe that means good conditioning. But I hope this isn't a case of trying to cling to a one goal lead.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

Wow this camera work and production by NBC Sports Network is gonna spoil us.:D

Maine looks quicker and more aggressive but they still don't have the finishers........then again, neither does Notre Dame. The Irish have some talented skaters and possession guys though.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

Notre Dame tilting the ice on the 4-on-4 Oullette coming up big.
